Not diagnosed by the doctor but I’m thinking it is that, not had it before and not feeling very good , everything feels like it’s moving even when I’m lying down. Any tips on how to deal with it?

I think you do need to see a GP to find the underlying cause. I know travel sickness tablets have helped some people, maybe speak to a pharmacist about that possibility while you are waiting to see a doctor.

supercritter · 05/06/2021 20:10

Google Epley manoeuvre (as well as getting medical advice obvs)

random79 · 05/06/2021 20:11

Go talk to the doctor, you can get medication that helps. I had this a couple of years ago and still get occasional attacks - the pills help loads.

Scout2016 · 05/06/2021 20:14

The type I had was like I was drunk and seasick. GP said it was caused by a viral ear infection. Nothing he could give me for the infection but got antihistamines prescribed for the nausea and they really helped.

milkjetmum · 05/06/2021 20:17

Agree on epley manoeuvre, instant relief for me!

MancyNitford · 05/06/2021 20:19

Sounds like labyrinthitis. I had it once and it was really debilitating. My bout came on really suddenly and I thought I was having a stroke. The Dr couldn't give me anything except some anti-nausea tablets. I think it lasted about three weeks in all.

DonLewis · 05/06/2021 20:20

Yy to the epley manoeuvre. You need to follow the instructions to the letter. If someone can help you, even better.

I take anti emetics when I get it, like stemetil. You may be able to get something from the pharmacy.

But you know that you shouldn't rely on randoms in the Internet for medical advice, right? So you should call your doctor.

I'm not a doctor, but I've had labyrinthitis and vestibular migraine more times than I care to remember.

Purplewithred · 05/06/2021 20:22

Things I know of - if you are dizzy lying down and not moving then it could be labrynthitis, if you are dizzy after moving (like the world carries on moving round you) then google BPPV. I've had both, they are a bit different and have different treatments (labrynthitis just time/viral infection, BPPV is the epley manoeuvre). If it's BPPV then I agree Epley is brilliant, but that won't help if it's an infection. Definitely worth trying the GP for help and diagnosis though.

Itstheprinciple · 05/06/2021 20:24

There are so many potential causes. You need to find out what yours is so you can fix it. Mine was BPPV fixed with the Epley manouvere done by a physiotherapist specialising in balance (although came back for a while after covid - weird). I also get vestibular migraines exacerbated by stress but largely controlled now.

missymayhemsmum · 05/06/2021 20:24

Get to the GP quick and get properly checked over. Vertigo can be the start of many things from hearing loss to high or low blood pressure related illness, and you may need steroids or other meds. Could be all kinds of things.

Dellow · 05/06/2021 20:33

I had horrendous vertigo , tried several things from the GP none of which worked. Ended up researching online and finding out vertigo caused by BPPV can be relived by vitamin K2 if you are deficient as the K2 redistributes any build up of calcium ‘gravel’ from the inner ear back to bones and teeth where it belongs. I now take d3 and K2 daily and have not had an attack for a few years . Maybe something to consider?

FiveGs · 05/06/2021 20:37

Sympathies OP it is a horrid feeling.

zyx12 · 05/06/2021 20:50

I had it too. It was horrible and I felt too dizzy to do the various manoeuvres (ironic I know). It did pass after about 6 months.

Rainydays55 · 05/06/2021 22:02

Oh goodness, 6 months, it’s horrible feeling like this , how did you cope with it for 6 months?!

OP posts:
zyx12 · 05/06/2021 22:08

Mine was only really when I laid down, so I tried to sleep with an extra pillow to make it less horizontal. I think mine was due to crystals in the ear so hopefully yours will pass sooner! I know quite a few people who've had the same thing but i can sympathise as it's not pleasant at all.

LoveFall · 05/06/2021 22:09

I had vertigo when I turned my head a certain way. I was never officially diagnosed but I believe it was BPPV. I tried the Epley Manoeuvre myself and it worked. Huge relief. Some physiotherapists also treat it.

My sympathies. It was most unpleasant and scary.

334bu · 05/06/2021 22:13

If you have not already done so, phone for doctors appointment first thing tomorrow.

Viviennemary · 05/06/2021 22:15

Get doctors appoitment and tablets.

Sinthie · 05/06/2021 22:17

I did the epley manoeuvre. If it’s Bppv, try to work out which ear is causing the problem. Mine is exacerbated by sleeping on the right side, so I avoid it.

StayOrGoOrWhat · 05/06/2021 22:44

It depends on the cause of the vertigo OP.
When did it start? What brings it on? Is it there all of the time? Are there any other symptoms?

Rainydays55 · 06/06/2021 11:44

Started badly yesterday, although I had it on and off a week ago but not badly, it didn’t stop me going to work, but this weekend it’s worse, seems to have come out the lie, I feel a bit like I have clogged up / heavy ears today so I’m wondering if it’s an ear infection. It goes from feeling a bit like I’m floating / am spaced out if I’m walking or sitting to being ok when I’m sitting down . Seems to get worse as the day goes on.

Mumoblue · 06/06/2021 11:55

Try not to turn your head too quickly, or much at all if you can help it. That helped me.
I get dizzy spells sometimes and got the swaying feeling quite badly a few years ago. At first I couldn’t describe it so I kept saying “Why do I feel like I’m on a boat?!”

gingeristhenewblack43 · 06/06/2021 12:03

I had vertigo 2 years ago, every time I lay down or turned over in bed I felt dizzy. The Dr gave me some tablets. The first kind didn't help so he prescribed some different ones which helped immensely.

It's rearing it's ugly head again at the moment although not as bad a previously. I rang the Dr on Friday and got prescribed the meds that worked last time.

It is truly an awful feeling and you should speak to a Dr.

cptartapp · 06/06/2021 12:03

When I had 'vertigo' there's no way I could have got to the GP. I could barely get to the toilet!
Took Sturgeron as it's all I had in and lay motionless for 48 hours. The slightest movement set off nystagmus, it was horrific.
I carry stemetil everywhere now so fearful of a recurrence.
