To think this is too far to walk?

To school for a child?

15 minutes there and then 15 minutes back. Child is 7. It's to collect another child so would have to do the walk back immediately.

OP posts:
4PawsGood · 03/06/2021 14:54

Sorry, 15-20 minutes each way.

MasterBeth · 03/06/2021 14:54

A 15 minute walk to school is just about the dream distance isn’t it??

Rumplestrumpet · 03/06/2021 14:54

Our daily walk to school is 15 mins, an extra 20 if we pick up baby from nursery too. My 5 year old is tired at the end of the day so I try to do nursery pick up first - but mostly because she'll be too slow. A child of 7 SHOULD be walking at least 30 mins each day, so I'd be worried they're not getting enough exercise on the other days!

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/06/2021 14:54

This must be a reverse surely? @TrinidadQueen

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 03/06/2021 14:55

DD2 used to walk half an hour to school and back again to drop DD1 off. She started when she was 2 1/2 and managed fine.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/06/2021 14:55

Do they have any physical needs? A 30 minute walk with a short break in the middle should be fine

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 14:56

Ok OP. What are you not telling us?

Mulberry974 · 03/06/2021 14:56

I'm an unfit 40 something but even I could cope with that distance. Really not an issue for most kids.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 03/06/2021 14:56

Good grief. Two 15 minute walks are too much for a seven year old? Legs will evolve into tiny stumps within a generation at this rate.

shallIswim · 03/06/2021 14:57

They won't even notice it. 15 minutes spent walking and chatting to an adult? That's quality time

LtGreggs · 03/06/2021 14:57

They will be fine. Remind them to go to the toilet before leaving.

Our family rule of thumb is that the child should be able to walk their age in miles (admittedly this is for planning weekend/holiday walks, but point is that 30 minutes is nothing)

PyjamaFan · 03/06/2021 14:57

It's absolutely fine. I would be very worried about any child without additional needs who couldn't walk 15 minutes twice a day!

pilates · 03/06/2021 14:57

Yes it’s fine

Wilkolampshade · 03/06/2021 14:58

OP are you reading these replies? Can you see how conclusive they are?

supersonicsue · 03/06/2021 14:58

I would think most people/children would walk for longer (some MUCH longer) than this to get to school each day. So unless special needs I don't understand why this is even an issue.

nellly · 03/06/2021 14:58

Is the child struggling with mobility or heavily overweight ? I'm surprised that anyone would think a 7 year old wouldn't manage this

MumofTeens2021 · 03/06/2021 14:58

I think that sounds really healthy - good daily exercise and not that far really. I live around the corner from the junior school my kids went to and that was five minutes - a further 10 is nothing really.

namesnamesnamesnames · 03/06/2021 14:59

This is ridiculous. Sorry OP, I just don't understand why people get funny about making children walk. 15 mins is absolutely nothing at all!

ScatteredMama82 · 03/06/2021 15:00

It's absolutely fine, good for the child in fact! It's not even every day. Don't see the problem.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 03/06/2021 15:00

My 8 and 10 year old 's primary school is a 25 minute walk each way.
We walk/ scoot or cycle every day as do I. They manage it fine as do I and I have a chronic hip problem and have had a hip replacement

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 03/06/2021 15:00

That should be easily doable for a 7 year old.

quiteathome · 03/06/2021 15:00

Sounds fine. They need the unwind time after school. Especially if they have been sitting all day. In fact child probably needs a bit more exercise

Moonshine11 · 03/06/2021 15:01

Is there something to add to this?
Does DC not normally walk anywhere?
Is it you who doesn’t want to walk?

m0therofdragons · 03/06/2021 15:01

We walk the dog daily for longer than that - never occurred to me dc couldn’t manage it. A 7 year old will be fine.

BlueDucky · 03/06/2021 15:02

@TrinidadQueen

With an adult
Absolutely fine
