Just that really.

NHS staff and students have already quite a list of vaccines required before starting work or training.

What happened before Covid for vaccine refusers? The same should apply really for all of the vaccines.

As a care home manager I am very concerned about it becoming mandatory. It already pays more to work in Aldi for less stress. This may force people out and the care sector is badly understaffed as it is. I've just finished a 24hr shift due to staff sickness and bosses not allowing agency due to covid...that's my second one this week. It's dangerous and I don't get to have a sleep at all during that time. But if I don't do it who will care for the residents?

I honestly think it will hang a lot of care homes because they won't have the staff. Then what will happen to the residents?

WaterOffADucksCrack · 03/06/2021 20:34

Oh and for the record we've been covid free as has our sister home.

Port1aCastis · 03/06/2021 20:38

All patients should be vaccinated if all nhs staff should be vaccinated as staff can just as easily catch it from an anti vaxxer patient

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/06/2021 20:40

I dont. You are not a robot and well within your rights to wait until theres more data around the vaccine and preganncy so you can make a more informed decision. Congrats on your pregnancy.

SmokeyDevil · 03/06/2021 20:40

I'd take a guess at 80-90% have had the vaccine. But definitely not all. Never will have 100% vaccination on it.

If you think that the majority of care home staff will refuse the vaccine, what do you think that says about them and their respect for their residents and for medical science?
Whinginadeville · 03/06/2021 20:46

Vaccine refusers are coasting on the benefits of the uptakers. Medical reasons aside it's pretty shameful for health care professionals to refuse. I also think forcing people to have it wrong. Not sure what the solution is. I'd rather my pregnant daughter for whom the vaccine is very risky so she's not having it yet didn't see anyone who isn't vaccinated I see vaccine refusers as putting her at risk. Perhaps they could declare it and step back from treating the vulnerable? I'm a bit shocked at the selfishness tbh.

Carycy · 03/06/2021 20:50

Chairmans wateroffaduckscrack did not state that the majority of care home staff wouldn’t have the vaccine.
But maybe that staff don’t want to lose their body autonomy for minimum wage is not worth it.

baldafrique · 03/06/2021 20:53

As much as I think its crazy being an NHS clinician and not having the vaccine, I'm against compulsory covid vax for existing clinicians as the NHS simply cannot afford to lose more staff. They will just leave and services will be even more fucked that currently and patient care even more decimated.

Justa47 · 03/06/2021 20:53

@Justecelaoui

100% yes they should.

Tealightsandd · 03/06/2021 20:53

YANBU when it's a clinical setting working with vulnerable patients. But people will scream about freedom (the patient of course has no freedom to choose a safer environment but nevermind).

Meanwhile barely a mumour from the defenders of freedom about Oxfordshire's proposal to ban smoking outside. So much for freedom in that county.

Iloveyou3x · 03/06/2021 20:55

Jesus. Last year we had rainbows and clapping and ‘thank you NHS’ now we have enforced vaccination and reduced sick pay if we dispute it 🤣

traumatisednoodle · 03/06/2021 20:58

In my trust the take up was 97% it's a tiny fraction who don't want it.

baldafrique · 03/06/2021 21:03

@MyCatDribbles
Damn right, good for you. No pregnant HCP should feel pressured to have the vaccine. All the best for your pregnancy.

baldafrique · 03/06/2021 21:04

@Iloveyou3x
It's almost funny isnt it Grin
Some bloody crazies on here.

Iloveyou3x · 03/06/2021 21:12

They really do have a love hate relationship with us don’t they? Fwiw I had the vaccine and I am pregnant, fairly confident it’s safe and too worried about catching it. But I have no problem with anyone refusing it, I also think the principle of forcing it on anyone is completely wrong.

baldafrique · 03/06/2021 21:13

It was so obvious it would eventually turn this way after the stage of clapping and rainbows! I cant believe someone up thread said that a pregnant HCP should resign Grin Laughable. They would obvs be the first to complain about cancelled appts and increased waits.

Tealightsandd · 03/06/2021 21:15

@traumatisednoodle

The main issue is in London. Much lower take up there.
Iloveyou3x · 03/06/2021 21:16

I missed that!!! Why should we resign? The cheek of it Shock I’m entitled to exactly the same rights as anyone else who was pregnant in the workplace. You do know that such a thing would be illegal, don’t you? Confused

baldafrique · 03/06/2021 21:18

@Iloveyou3x
Some tosser in response to a pregnant HCP saying she is waiting until 2nd trimester to have her vaccine due to previous losses. Some people are beyond odious.

Iloveyou3x · 03/06/2021 21:18

Also, turn it on its heel. Why should all nhs staff be vaccinated when the general public are able to refuse it but still expect nhs treatment? If you are expecting nhs staff to have it why not everyone else? We can still catch it off someone who has not been vaccinated. But you wouldn’t dare say it, would you!

Iloveyou3x · 03/06/2021 21:19

Love to the HCP currently pregnant, wish you all the best with your pregnancy! I had mine at 14 weeks pregnant and felt bloody HIDEOUS Envy

ThornAmongstRoses · 03/06/2021 21:20

I think refusers should have some card to show that they oppose vaccine and everyone else can choose whether they wish to interact with them.
