To fill up a massive paddling pool today

leafytreetrunk · 01/06/2021 08:20

Dh says I am. It's supposed to reach 25degrees and I bought a pool that is 70cm high and 10ft wide. Sorry for mix of metric imperial but that's literally all I remember re the dimensions.
I reallllllllly want to fill it up today for my dd who loved water so much. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be 25 degrees.
Dh says I need to wait for better weather as dd will just get cold.

Aibu to just get the thing out and get on with it? Takes a few hours to fill. Anyone had any experience of these larger pools? It will be in the sun.

What ?! Of course that's warm enough. Just crack on. She'll have a great time !

Furryscoob · 01/06/2021 08:23

My 6 & 3 year old have spent the last 2 days in the paddling pool & are already wanting to go back out this morning.

Do it!!!!!!

Tianatiers · 01/06/2021 08:24

I don’t think YABU to fill a paddling pool today but that seems quite a big one for one child so YAB a little bit U fill such a big pool.

Zoladrama · 01/06/2021 08:24

I am, mines only 6ft though but pretty deep. Big enough to get my lilo in which I plan on doing after work, it's meant to stay 20c here till 9pm tonight! Don't think it's been this hot since the first lockdown.

lazylump72 · 01/06/2021 08:26

Just fill it and have fun!

leafytreetrunk · 01/06/2021 08:27

@Tianatiers a few of dd friends are coming over tomorrow = easy childcare too hehe.

I really can't see waiting for higher temps of 25 degrees as reasonable in the U.K. but I am thinking dh may not be bothered to help me get this up and running ASAP Grin

you could always put warm water in it

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 01/06/2021 08:28

I had mine out yesterday and by the end of the afternoon the water was really warm from the sun!

I always use the dirty water to water my garden afterwards so it doesn’t get wasted, can you do that?

ChocOrange1 · 01/06/2021 08:28

I don't think YABU to have a paddling pool in this weather.

I do think YABU to have a 10ft paddling pool. That is massive - think how much water it will use, about 5000L if full. And then it will have to be drained out in a few days when the weather is not so good. A big waste IMO.

Get a normal sized paddling pool or at least don't fill it all the way up.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 01/06/2021 08:29

I filled ours days ago (15 feet by 107cm Grin) and the kids have pretty much lived in it, even when it was only 16 degrees.

LadyCatStark · 01/06/2021 08:29

It could be 10 degrees and raining again by next week, you have to make hay while the sun shines!

inappropriateraspberry · 01/06/2021 08:30

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, definitely pool weather!
And if they get cold, they can get out and dry off, it's bit like you're sat on a beach - you have a huge supply of towels and dry clothes to hand!
Put some warm water and bubble bath in it, and they won't need a bath later 😆

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/06/2021 08:32

The issue with big pools is they take a long time to warm. Ours is 12ft diameter, waist height on an adult, and has been full several weeks with the solar heater warming to a pleasant temperature. It was lovely on Sunday at a party apparently. (I was too busy hosting to try, plus didn't want to inflict that sight on our guests)

ChocOrange1 · 01/06/2021 08:32

Sorry its about 3500L, not 5000. But still an awful lot.

DelBocaVista · 01/06/2021 08:33

Of course it's a paddling pool day, you could be waiting a long time for it to get much warmer!

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 08:34

YANBU unless you live next door to me on which case you should on no account do this 😃

WouldBeGood · 01/06/2021 08:34

In, not on

Tianatiers · 01/06/2021 08:37

@leafytreetrunk that’s good that it will be used for more people and more than one day. I still think it sounds like a massive pool though, ours is smaller than yours but easily fits our two DC with loads of room, me and DH could easily fit in with them too at a push.

On a side note, is it ok to use the same water for multiple days? I might have a second day with the same water if it was just our family using it, but that would be my limit.

leafytreetrunk · 01/06/2021 08:42

It does have a filter in it. I bought a cover for overnight too. Came prepared for this day Grin

Anything 17 and above is paddling pool weather in our house. Go for it!

Tianatiers · 01/06/2021 08:47

@leafytreetrunk sounds like you’re very prepared, enjoy!

TheQueef · 01/06/2021 08:49

My neighbours had theirs out since Saturday, it's very popular!
Now's the time Smile

Ours is 14ft. It has filters and cleaning tablets, as do most large pools. We fill it once and use it all summer. At the end, we leave it for a week to allow the chlorine to evaporate then use the water on the gardens and to wash the drains through.

mummycat2 · 01/06/2021 08:53

If you have a 10ft pool then it will take many hours to fill. Plus more time to set up and check your ground is level and clear of stones. You’ll also need buy chlorine for your water and test strips. Also unless you’re filling up with hot water too then the water will be baltic! We bought a 10ft frame pool last year and it was a absolute god send during the first lockdown!
