To fill up a massive paddling pool today

Dh says I am. It's supposed to reach 25degrees and I bought a pool that is 70cm high and 10ft wide. Sorry for mix of metric imperial but that's literally all I remember re the dimensions.
I reallllllllly want to fill it up today for my dd who loved water so much. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be 25 degrees.
Dh says I need to wait for better weather as dd will just get cold.

Aibu to just get the thing out and get on with it? Takes a few hours to fill. Anyone had any experience of these larger pools? It will be in the sun.

Rip binbags in half and put them on top of the water to warm it up.

DeathStare · 01/06/2021 08:55

I have the same sized pool (also with cover and filter). I filled it last night and the DC will be using it today. It takes hours to fill so is only really worth it if you know you're getting a few good days. If your DH thinks we are going to get a run of several days where the temperature is significantly higher than 24 then I think he's nuts.

girlwhowearsglasses · 01/06/2021 08:56

OP you will need chemicals for a pool that big. then you can leave the water in and put a cover on. Otherwise it will be Envy by the end of the week

ApolloandDaphne · 01/06/2021 08:57

If you lived in Scotland you would be waiting forever for temps over 25. It's 18 here and I am feeling like it would be paddling pool weather!

Barbaralovesme · 01/06/2021 08:57

Hope your DC enjoy the pool, mine had a wonderful time yesterday. I plan to use the same water in the pool for as long as the weather allows and then I will give the kids some watering cans to use the water in the garden (we have lots of veg plots)...that will keep them busy for a good few hours.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 01/06/2021 08:58

And IME it costs the same to buy the chemicals and filter as the pool. We had to buy a proper filter, chlorine tablets, cleaning tools, test strips, filters, and 'shock treatment' for a similar sized pool last year. Plus a new cover when the DCs broke it.

Was great in lockdown and they filed it up yesterday but I am dreading it.

We don’t have kids but have a large paddling pool. Filled it yesterday for our friends children as they were visiting. 4 year old and 17 month old were fine in it. Bit cold at first but the splashing, chucking balls around, getting in and out in the sun etc kept them warm enough and they bloody loved it. It also convinced DDog to have a go and he hates water Grin
Enjoy the pool!

PicklePuckle · 01/06/2021 09:04

Why not just tell your dh your child is going in the pool today

chickenyhead · 01/06/2021 09:06

Same argument going on here!

itsgettingwierd · 01/06/2021 09:07

Fill it up and add some hot water! Air temp is plenty warm enough.

I'd also invest in a cover and some kind of filter or cleaner so you can keep it up. You won't want to be filling it constantly.

itsgettingwierd · 01/06/2021 09:08

@leafytreetrunk

It does have a filter in it. I bought a cover for overnight too. Came prepared for this day Grin
Sorry didn't refresh before coming back and posting.

Definitely go for it then!

TheSandgroper · 01/06/2021 09:10

If you are going to use the water over a number of days, I cannot emphasise enough about chlorine use.

Get instructions and use it properly. Amoebic meningitis and Legionnaires disease are so easy to get and have such devastating outcomes.

Maldives2006 · 01/06/2021 09:31

@leafytreetrunk

Definitely fill it up there will be no need to drain it in a few days but you will need to buy a filter to go in the pool, chlorine tablets and testing strips for the water.

dottiedodah · 01/06/2021 10:06

I think it sounds fine! Maybe put some cold in and then a couple of kettles (When plenty of cold in obv!) Make the most of it I say!

hellcatspangle · 01/06/2021 10:08

That's as night as it gets here, and it's meant to be nice for the next couple of weeks so crack on. Tbh I'd be pouring myself a G&T and buying a big floating unicorn to lie on as well.

newnortherner111 · 01/06/2021 10:10

You'll be waiting a while if you want much warmer weather. If you are anywhere south of the Pennines.

leafytreetrunk · 01/06/2021 16:19

Update. We came to a compromise. I popped out and bought a smaller pool and invited a load of dc over and they had a great time.
I will hopefully get round to taking back the 10ft pool that I may have bought on a whim...
Hope everyone else managed to get some sunshine!
