I saw it on a thread on MN over the past few days - definitely no longer than a week ago. It'll have been in AIBU or chat

It was a witty saying. Short. Amusing. Maybe a retort, maybe a way of describing someone a bit dense. And a couple of other poster commented on the phrase, laughing at it

But can I recall it? No. Can i remember what it was about? No. Can I remember what the thread was about? No.

Posting on the off chance you saw it too and laughed and you recall it.

Yeah. I know

LyndaSnellsSniff · 01/06/2021 08:15

As daft as a brush and twice as bristly?

MinnieJackson · 01/06/2021 08:15

All kettle and no plug?

Roadtohades · 01/06/2021 08:42

May his/her next poo be a hedgehog/porcupine?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/06/2021 08:59

Oops - x-posted

Buffaloskull · 01/06/2021 09:33

As much use as a chocolate fire guard/tea pot?

IntermittentParps · 01/06/2021 09:54

'Govebot's malfunctioning human suit'* Grin

This thread is priceless, never mind whatever thread the OP's mystery phrase is from!

vampirethriller · 01/06/2021 10:03

His fridge light's on, but the food isn't cold

RaskolnikovsGarret · 01/06/2021 10:31

Daft apeth was the one I was thinking of. Thanks!

Rhythmisadancer · 01/06/2021 10:43

I think apeth is actually ha'porth, as in daft half half penny's worth - pedantic but interesting!

Teessider · 01/06/2021 10:48

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle

YOU HAVE GOT IT

there's a lid for every pan

Amazing! Thank you

Like I said, it wasn't something obvious like daft as a brush and I'd not heard it before

But now, thanks to @MyrtlethePurpleTurtle, I can rest easy

@BritWifeinUSA

The only one that springs to mind from recent times that caused a stir was “carrying on like a pork chop”. It’s an Australian saying. I find it offensive, however. The whole phrase is “carrying on like a pork chop in a synagogue/at a Jewish wedding” and means “acting inappropriately”. Often shortened to just “carrying on like a pork chop”.
Why would you find that offensive?

Glad someone else got in with the pedant point; I was itching to but now I don't have to Grin

JustLost101 · 01/06/2021 11:59

@vampirethriller but if the fridge light is on, the food WONT be cold. The light comes on when you open the door 🤷‍♂️

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 01/06/2021 12:05

The funny thing, @Teessider, was that I read your thread before seeing the one on Carrie’s dress. And once I read the post on the Carrie thread, I had a flash of recognition that this was the post you were thinking of!

vampirethriller · 01/06/2021 12:06

@JustLost101 I think that's the point but it's not my saying, I just heard it and like it!

honeygirlz · 01/06/2021 12:16

YOU HAVE GOT IT

there's a lid for every pan

Well that was anti-climactic. And I thought that saying meant there is someone for everyone, no that they are dense.

JustLost101 · 01/06/2021 12:18

@vampirethriller so his door is always open?

Make of that what you will I suppose 😅

User5485421134 · 01/06/2021 12:24

"A lid for every pan" is a very common saying in German. Usually has neutral/positive connotations in relation to dating, similar to saying "there's plenty of fish in the sea".
