Secret Ceremony okay or should we have had a Public Holiday?

I'm sure we all wish the lovely young couple every happiness in life whatever they choose to do, and hope they will be able to afford to move up to a house soon. But should we have had a bit of a national holiday on their wedding or was a secret ceremony the right thing to do?

OP posts:

If they'd declared a Bank Holiday (obviously they couldn't) I would have refused to engage. I don't wish that criminal any good.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 30/05/2021 08:05

This marriage is definitely the one that'll stick. Third time lucky, yeah? Hmm

MinesAPintOfTea · 30/05/2021 08:06

The point of the royals is that the system needs them to get married youngish and produce legitimate heirs. Contrast the fanfare around William getting married with the much more low key wedding of Charles and Camilla.

The system doesn’t need Johnson to marry at all. Without bringing the circumstances of his wedding into account

DeathStare · 30/05/2021 08:06

@newnortherner111 my point was that he won't confirm how many children he has - either because he doesn't know himself or because it's more than the ones we know about.

TheFairyCaravan · 30/05/2021 08:10

I just want to know what news they’re going to be hiding with this wedding because there will definitely be something.

EdithWeston · 30/05/2021 08:19

Surprised they were done in Westminster Cathedral.

Have all previous been annulled, and has he truly confessed/repented? Or don't the non-Catholics have to do that bit?

Assume it had to be the cut down ceremony, as on-Catholics not eligible for proper nuptial mass (or has that changed now as well)

RuggerHug · 30/05/2021 08:22

Previous weddings weren't in Church so the Catholic Church doesn't recognise them as real marriages. Handy she can't testify against him now if that came up.

GCAcademic · 30/05/2021 08:25

Johnson getting married is a routine occurrence. We know there will be another wedding at some point. It really doesn’t merit any notice, other than to wonder what is being covered up now.

OrangePowder · 30/05/2021 08:29

I'm going to suggest OP was teasing about the holiday.

I'm not Cathilic and don't really care, except for the hint of corruption (which I care about a lot). How did they manage to get married in a Catholic church? Won't the church have questions to answer there, or is this no big deal?

Jumpingintosummer · 30/05/2021 08:30

Under cannon law they will annul the others as non catholic ceremonies (never mind the children, philandering etc) as he was baptised catholic before switching to Anglican as a young man.

Utter bollocks, the lot of it. If someone had asked the local priest for the same the answer would have been no. I can’t stand the hypocrisy.

Ahh, now that does make a lot of sense.
Barbie222 · 30/05/2021 08:31

I feel a bit sorry for him today. He clearly didn't want the dog, he didn't want the kid, and now he's had to do this, presumably.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 30/05/2021 08:32

Isn't he having enough sex at the moment? He's fucked an entire country, after all.

Leonardsgirl · 30/05/2021 08:33

I was a bit mean about it on a thread last night, but on reflection I wish them well, the same as I would any newly married couple.

KingdomScrolls · 30/05/2021 08:35

How did he get his first marriage annulled after six years!

OrangePowder · 30/05/2021 08:36

Ah yes, how could I forget the Catholic double standard.

3peassuit · 30/05/2021 08:40

I’m surprised he didn’t burst into flames when he entered the cathedral.

jakalaka · 30/05/2021 08:45

Do we think he counts as Catholic? If so, he's the first Catholic prime minister (Blair converted afterwards).

IEat · 30/05/2021 08:46

If your talking about BoJo they’re not young! Same as calling William and Harry boys, they’re nearly 40

Happylittlethoughts · 30/05/2021 09:28

Jesus wept, no one cares.

fiftiesmum · 30/05/2021 09:33

It doesn't say much for a church which says marriage is for life when he manages to get his first two marriages "annulled " shows that power and influence still count

freedomontheway · 30/05/2021 09:34

Let's hope then that given they married in RC ceremony he will ensure his child ( ren) will be brought up as a Catholic, attend RC school and attend mass regularly. Somehow I doubt it

Aposterhasnoname · 30/05/2021 09:36

Why the absolute ever loving fuck would we have a holiday for the prime ministers wedding? You’re obviously trying to be clever, but you just sound ridiculous

jakalaka · 30/05/2021 09:44

Well, holidays are nice though.
