I have had massive problems with my NDN's. Since I moved in 7 months back, the constant noise has been an issue. DIY with loud power tools every single day, music in house, music in garden, TV turned up if a music programme is on. Today takes the biscuit though. Usually he's out from about 8.15am on a weekend wielding his power tools. Today they already have the radio on in the garden and it's 7.45am FFS! Good job i'm moving soon!

OP if you’re in a position to find out there are new tenants, put a note in their mailbox that tells them of your experience and offer to give your version of the shit you experienced with the neighbors in case they are going to make an official complaint against them and need some ammunition. Honestly I would very much appreciate to know it wasn’t just me if I had unknowingly rented this property and had the same issues as you before.

Tistheseason17 · 29/05/2021 12:07

I had an extremely noisy neighbour so I would wait until they went to bed, wait for an hour for them to get to sleep and then I put my music on at its highest volume by their bedroom wall and put my noise cancelling headphones on and go happily to sleep. I'd wake for a wee and turn it off around 4-5am.

They never said a word, but the noise significantly reduced.

Sometimes arseholes like this need responded to in kind.

Why not download one of those lengthy Lou Reed songs with fifteen minutes of guitar feedback that sound exactly like machine noise and play it in your own garden at 6.00 tomorrow morning?

Think of the fun revenge you can have in the week before you leave OP.

But it's kind of shitty for the other neighbors to have to listen to that.
murbblurb · 29/05/2021 12:33

what a pig, glad you are leaving. Removal blokes are generally big and tough by definition, they'll be able to get him to shift his van.

make sure your landlord knows why you are leaving, your property will need to be rented to somebody very tolerant or very deaf. The landlord may therefore wish to start a complaint with the council, although the bar for anti social behaviour is extremely high.

mindutopia · 29/05/2021 12:41

Completely not the point of the thread, but I used to live abroad and I had a neighbour a couple buildings down (these were flats but I presume he had the ground floor flat so the garden was his) used to listen to BBC World News (on radio) every Saturday and Sunday morning from 5 flipping AM. It was only ever on the weekends when I'd actually want a lie in and it was so damn loud. There was a bar a couple buildings over on the other side that had a beer garden and people would be out in the garden shouting and drinking until 2-3am. And then it was like 2 hours of peace and then BBC World News at full volume... Angry

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 29/05/2021 13:31

I would definitely have to do something to get my own back on this piece of shit.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 29/05/2021 13:43

Can't believe so many would honestly inflict criminal damage. Sure they would. Just move and it's the landlord's problem. When he starts losing money from it maybe he'll act. Some people deserve to live on the streets.

FixTheBone · 29/05/2021 13:51

Our problem neighbours were a total treat. We bought our house from the Lord mayor, so imagine our disappointment when the adjoining property was turned into flats....

Two tenants bought a table with parasol, a patio heater and turned it into a 24/7, 365 beer garden, I shit-you-not even when it was snowing. They held parties every day for almost a year, with drug use alcohol and the foulest language I've ever heard all filtering over the fence and under the floor boards, and to keep it all kicking erected a PA speaker from the upstairs windows that literally left our kids sobbing at night with the thumping bass.

When they weren't partying, they decided shooting at our tumble dryer vent with a rifle would be fun, and almost shot my wife in the eye when we moved the dryer to see what the clanking noises were (suspecting a small animal). They ruined our TV aerial by splicing into it rather than buying their own, and the smell of weed in our own house was strong and almost continuous.

Needless to say I wasn't the remotest but upset, in fact probably the opposite, when one was removed in a body bag after a drug overdose, and a short time after, the other to Jail after being convicted of letting off a shotgun in a crowded pub - despite this I never had any police interview regarding the previously reported firearms offence....

We had a similar neighbour. He went the same way. Diddums. If there's a hell I hope he's there.
@newnortherner111 i'm moving in a few weeks so pointless now. If I called the police, the reprisals wouldn't be worth it. I doubt he would stop. I just want to get out of here now.

Does anyone know if he doesn't move his van on my day of moving, can I ring the police? It's parked in a back alley behind the terrace and would mean I couldn't get furniture past.

Thanks.
Can you put something in between his van and the door/alley to prevent him from blocking your access? You then move this when you're ready to leave? It might just give you some extra space. Just make sure it's something that can be trashed.

Goldieloxx · 29/05/2021 15:09

I would complain to the council before you go, you have nothing to lose, it may help the next poor person. I'd also tell your landlord that's why you are leaving, it will be a pain for them if they keep losing tenants so may motivate them to complain themselves. Also put loads of wet mud and dirt through their letterbox before you drive off laughing, I can tell you from personal experience its very satisfying!

janj2301 · 30/05/2021 17:29

My borough only allows noise from DIY at certain times, check your council website site if applicable contact them.

Bertiebiscuit · 30/05/2021 17:34

If it wasn't illegal I'd say leave him some Japanese knotweed in the garden - what a tosser - have an all nighter leaving party at least

Miisty · 30/05/2021 17:50

Contact the local environmental people they will have stuff you can measure .Also do it in y phone good luck

grownuplefthome · 30/05/2021 17:54

Some of us like the early part of the day, however he/she should be more considerate and not blaring music at that time.

peppermintpat · 30/05/2021 18:06

Why I like renting (apart from the insecurity of being asked to leave) is the fact I can up sticks fairly easily. I hope you find peace in your next home OP.

jwpetal · 30/05/2021 18:12

Just to make it fun start singing and dancing when you go out. Make it fun. Laugh or whatever. It won't solve all the problems but might help. Good luck surviving the next few weeks.

Jeannie88 · 30/05/2021 18:19

Would definitely report him to council, what a horrible person! If there is a record of him being a bully and a problem this will help the next tennant. Totally unfair, you poor thing. Wouldn't it be karma if the new neighbours were like him. X

smallsaz · 30/05/2021 18:21

Sadly, it’s bullies like this who drive good people out. There is no reasoning with them. However you should definitely report them to the council and police. Yes to the sour milk/dog shit combo in the car air vents!!

maybloss2 · 30/05/2021 20:02

Hi op, re yr neighbours van- is it always there, if not can you get someone to park there to save the space for you?
If he does block the back alley can you load up out front? If it’s a friendly road I’m sure yr other neighbours would be cooperative with saving a space for you there.
Nearer your moving day I’d make an official complaint so by the time anything is done about it you’re well out of it. Also if his is a rental, you can try to trace the agency or the council to complain too.
I think if his van is off the public road you may find the police can’t do anything. But it is an offence to obstruct a road so that emergency vehicles or neighbours cars can’t get through and the police and council have powers to have it towed if neccessary..

Perhaps ask the police for some "cones" to put out. Explain the situation etc. I don't know if they do it in all circumstances but we got them for my dad's funeral, ensuring the hearse and other cars could be next the house.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 30/05/2021 21:11

This will soon be your landlord's problem. I hope your next place is better.

Summerfun54321 · 30/05/2021 21:17

Can you get a truck full of manure delivered to his front lawn? Or think of some other way to anonymously piss him off. Petty but bullies like this shouldn’t get away with it.

HenGab4 · 30/05/2021 22:09

My friend moved from her rented property about 2 months after putting up with verbal abuse and threats from the family next door. As their asbo son got older he got worse. He’s 16 now. They moved out and the day after the landlord moved in new tenants. O my goodness karma arrived for the neighbour from hell cos now they are terrified cos their new tenants are more than a match and have well and truly put them in their place. They actually called the police to report the neighbours who told them without a witness they it was there word against there new neighbours.

I loved it when I went to collect some mail for my friend and they told me she will never have problems with the asbo neighbour again. She has seen him in the town a few times and he now puts his head down.

Karma is excellent 😁
