Is it okay to drink wine with a cold?

My daughter is at her dads this weekend, dropped her at school this morning and that is her till Monday. I have an awful cold, it started Wednesday night, it's not just a cold as I can get on with things then but an AWFUL cold. Blocked/runny nose, sore throat, sore head, sore eyes and achy bones all over. Also exhausted but for some reason can't sleep. No temp though.

I haven't eaten today, just no appetite at all but was thinking tonight I could go a couple glasses bottle of wine tonight and that should help me sleep as-well and relax a bit.

AIBU? I don't want to feel worse tomorrow but would like to think this is the peak of it🤞

Personally I would drink hot whiskeys. You will get a great night's sleep too

Topseyt · 28/05/2021 21:26

Wine is OK if that is what you want. A good, neat dram or two of whisky is far superior though. 😉

@shouldistop

*Was your Covid test negative? Personally I wouldn’t because alcohol affects your immune system.*

I must have missed where op said she had a continuous cough, temperature or change in taste / sense of smell.

Covid has a lot more symptoms than these, especially if you’re vaccinated just FYI. OP has listed many of them.

Hot toddy is essential for a cold.
My OH makes the meanest.
Large amount of whisky, honey, lemon hot water and cinnamon.
After two I have forgotten about my cold and feel warm and cosy.
Medicinal in my book.

Are you the PBP on the other thread OP?

shouldistop · 29/05/2021 12:20

@BiniorellaSun I realise that but last time I booked a test it asked you to confirm you had one of the main symptoms

speakout · 29/05/2021 12:38

Have you booked a covid test OP?

My DD has covid right now- same symptoms as you- no cough

catlovingdoctor · 29/05/2021 12:43

Alcohol suppress the immune system which is probably not a good idea when you're fighting it off. Just wait till you fill better.

Macncheeseballs · 29/05/2021 13:07

I very rarely get ill, and love alcohol Smile

Tartyflette · 29/05/2021 13:38

Bit of a waste of wine if you can't taste it, just go straight for the hot toddy.
Tip -- you can use brandy or rum instead if you don't have whisky.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 29/05/2021 13:52

It’s ok in that it’s unlikely to be dangerous.
But alcohol impairs the immune system, makes it harder to fight off a cold and will likely mean it lasts longer and you’ll feel worse. If that’s what you’re asking?

@hippidyhiphip

You'd be better off with a shot of night nurse. I think it contains some alcohol and it'll knock you out for 10 hours straight.
Yes especially if it's the bottle snd not the tablets.
