Is it okay to drink wine with a cold?

My daughter is at her dads this weekend, dropped her at school this morning and that is her till Monday. I have an awful cold, it started Wednesday night, it's not just a cold as I can get on with things then but an AWFUL cold. Blocked/runny nose, sore throat, sore head, sore eyes and achy bones all over. Also exhausted but for some reason can't sleep. No temp though.

I haven't eaten today, just no appetite at all but was thinking tonight I could go a couple glasses bottle of wine tonight and that should help me sleep as-well and relax a bit.

AIBU? I don't want to feel worse tomorrow but would like to think this is the peak of it🤞

Not sure about wine, but whisky with honey and lemon definitely helps a cold.

Twistered · 28/05/2021 15:28

OP it's actually compulsory!
Hope you feel better soon WineFlowersCake

@BrownEyedGirl80

Over the years I'm come to the conclusion over the years that the body can be poorly or pissed but not both.If I've got a cold and drink I wake up the next morning and the cold has vanished.
OP .... See it cures colds! Let us know tomorrow if it cured yours :-)

Hot toddy wud be better 😁

thevassal · 28/05/2021 16:42

I mean I love a glass of wine as much as anyone but it seems a bit pointless if you cant taste it and just want it to help you sleep - just a lot of empty calories, waste of money, and as pp have said it will actually dehydrate you and make your sleep worse and you'll probably feel a bit crap tomorrow. I would get some night nurse which is actually designed to help you sleep when you have a cold, then have the wine as a 'Yay I feel better!' celebration in a few days time! Love that feeling when your appetite returns and you can taste things again Grin

romdowa · 28/05/2021 17:02

Nice hot whiskey would do you far better 😉

@BiniorellaSun

Was your Covid test negative? Personally I wouldn’t because alcohol affects your immune system.

Drinking wine is never not okay op 😂

MrsFin · 28/05/2021 17:21

Night nurse is great for helping you sleep though a cold.

shouldistop · 28/05/2021 17:21

I must have missed where op said she had a continuous cough, temperature or change in taste / sense of smell.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/05/2021 17:23

Go for it.

LuaDipa · 28/05/2021 17:27

Have the wine. Or a brandy.

Pollypudding · 28/05/2021 17:30

May I suggest a hot toddy (Scottish)
Whisky
Honey
Lemon
Hot water

Drink it in bed- it will knock you out and you will feel better in the morning- my granny swore by this home remedy!
Hope you feel better soon Brew

babyt2020 · 28/05/2021 17:32

Do it, it's medicinal 😁😜👍

Mummyneedsacoffee · 28/05/2021 17:34

If it’s an awful cold then I personally wouldn’t .. especially on an empty stomach!

I’d never normally say no to wine but I think it’s sensible to avoid for you if you feel quite bad Smile

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 17:35

It's OK but it's unlikely to make you feel better.

gamerchick · 28/05/2021 17:37

Have something to eat first.

IMO if I'm going to feel rubbish then I'm going to have a reason for it Grin

YoComoManzanas · 28/05/2021 17:43

Rum and ginger is more medicinal??? I find wine tends to affect my sinuses a night but if you don't have this problem then have at it. Wine

Georgyporky · 28/05/2021 17:53

Chicken soup will cure a cold, & also line your stomach before you have the wine.
Gesundheit !

With honey and lemon? That's bloody lovely. My mum used to give it to us as kids if we had colds. Shock

If we had a cough as well, she'd add a shot of Gee's linctus. Years later, I found out that said linctus contains morphine. Shock Shock

justanotherremainer · 28/05/2021 18:11

Unreasonable to drink anything other than a hot toddy.

Shot of whisky, spoon of honey, squeeze of fresh lemon juice, full mug with hot water.

Don’t sip. Wait until JUST cool enough to down it, then down it.

Epic.

Breakfastburrito · 28/05/2021 18:36

It will affect your immune function and you’ll wake up feeling completely dried out but it’ll probably make you feel better in the very short term

Branleuse · 28/05/2021 18:40

not really. You need to make yourself a hot orange juice with honey in it and topped up with brandy or whisky. Youll feel much better

dottiedaisee · 28/05/2021 18:41

I drank wine when I had Covid ...it was bloody marvellous!

LindaEllen · 28/05/2021 18:41

You don't need permission but there's something wrong if all you can stomach is wine.

I think the traditional solution is lucozade...
