Having the week from hell .

Tooth out on Monday, dentist tried to get a second one, ended up giving me stitches . Tooth is still oozing overnight, tastes foul . Dentist said ?dry socket, salt water rinses and someone will r/v on Wednesday .

Covid jab on Tuesday 8am - in hindsight a massive mistake, should have rebooked . Felt lightheaded, fluey, fever, etc for 48 hours .

As that started to go, period started late last night - on floor in agony (background of ?endometriosis) . Haven’t had a period at all since January (PCOS) . Flooding through everything in sight .

Managed to bathroom earlier still flooding, now also have diarrhea and vomiting and very light headed .

Haven’t eaten properly since 10am Monday morning .

Phoned GP - ‘probably a weird reaction to your vaccine - phone 111’

Phoned 111 - ‘probably a funny reaction to your period (which was probably caused by the vaccine), phone GP’

Phone Gp - ‘it isn’t life threatening is it? Can you phone the chemist?’

Phone chemist: ‘That needs a GP, phone them back’

Phone GP: ‘if you do an econsult, someone will call you back by Tuesday at 6’

Do e-consult: ‘please call your GP today for an emergency appointment’

Aaaaaah FFS .

Where do you go next? It isn’t an A&E matter but something to stop me from vomiting would be a help, or pain relief - neither of which chemist said she’s happy to give as said she wants a doctor to review first ?!

As annoying as it sounds I think back to badgering your GP.

Or you might have luck getting an out of hours GP appointment over the weekend through 111? I’d also consider talking to the dentist again for the tooth if that’s not better. I don’t know but they may be able to tell if you need antibiotics or possibly prescribe better pain relief for it.

PinkPlantCase · 28/05/2021 12:15

Sorry you’ve had such a crappy week Flowers

TheChiefJo · 28/05/2021 12:16

Follow the e-consult and pharmacist's instructions and make it clear that's what you are doing. Tell the GPs surgery that you need an urgent consultation because the pharmacist is insisting on it. It's not easy when you feel ill but don't take no for an answer.

I hope you feel better soon.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 28/05/2021 12:17

Ring the GP back and explain that you were told to get an emergency appointment.

LunaMuffinTop · 28/05/2021 12:19

I have no advice just wanted to offer unmumsnetty hug and some Flowers I hope things get better for you and you start feeling better soon. Xx

Moonshine11 · 28/05/2021 12:19

Ring your gp back, advise the econsult advise you need an emergency app and you need it today.
They can’t keep passing you around.

wasthisapanicattack · 28/05/2021 12:30

They just keep saying GP has advised period pain isn’t an illness, and absolutely not an emergency - so not allowed to help .

E consult (if I press self care button) suggests I ask for a whole variety of things from ibuprofen all the way to a hysterectomy - and says to ask my local pharmacist for her advice on which one to choose ... then said I might find calpol or beechams cold and flu helps . Bloody hell .

Hopefully it settles down, just panicked a bit as have got a form from vaccine clinic about side effects etc - I’m pretty confident it is just a funny reaction to heavy bleeding but it’s awful . Meant to have met sister for lunch after 15 months so devastated to have had to cancel too .

TheChiefJo · 28/05/2021 12:37

I don't think the combination of symptoms you've described can be brushed off as 'period problems'. It's irrelevant in any case as the pharmacist has told you to seek the GPs attention. Tell them this.

TabbyStar · 28/05/2021 12:57

Urgent care? I thought GPs generally tried to make you an appointment there if they are up to their safe limits.

wasthisapanicattack · 28/05/2021 13:37

We don’t have urgent care unfortunately, just GP or A&E . GP receptionist said I could in theory wait til 6 or tomorrow and OOH would sort it instead, but that’s a ludicrous system .

Receptionist has now said a doctor will call next Friday to a discuss my heavy period, and if I carry on vomiting or diarrhoea into tomorrow then to go via OOH, if I collapse it’s a 999, chemist could give me a box of cocodamol and rehydration sachets and she said hopefully it is just menstrual problems and not a vaccine reaction - but because doctor won’t actually talk to me until next week there’s no way of knowing .

Fitforforty · 28/05/2021 13:39

If you are going through more than a pad an hour then I think you need to go to A an E.

wasthisapanicattack · 28/05/2021 13:40

They do have appointments free all afternoon receptionist said, but when she tried to book me one she got a message from GP saying it isn’t serious enough for them to call .

Has similar a month ago with bad UTI, by the time I was spoken to I’d been blood in urine for 4 days and fever of 39 ... Gp kept saying to take OTC sachets for a week .. nurse did apologise on that occasion and said narrowly avoided being taken in for IV meds . You’d think they’d learn from these things .

sasparilla1 · 28/05/2021 13:48

I'm sorry you're going through this, and I think that's absolutely disgusting behaviour from your gp.

If you're feeling up to it, give the practice manager a ring and ask what they suggest you do as their gp won't even talk to you. And then make an official complaint as this is the second time you've been treated appallingly.

Ipadannie · 28/05/2021 13:51

If you have a dry socket then I'd be asking for an urgent dental appt. Can make you feel awful but can be improved greatly with a clean out and some antibiotics. Feel better soon.

Ostara212 · 28/05/2021 13:56

OP "Managed to bathroom earlier still flooding, now also have diarrhea and vomiting and very light headed ."

I know it's awful to sit in A&E like that, but I think you should. Flowers

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 13:58

I think this is A&E

standupsitdownturnaround · 28/05/2021 14:09

Are you going through more than one pad an hour for more than 2 hours in a row? If so, and if also lightheaded, then you do need an urgent assessment to be safe.

The D&V and pain might be a red herring - both manageable at home even tho unpleasant.

Unexplained heavy blood loss can deteriorate quickly without input.

When talking to healthcare providers be ultra clear with the framing as human error may dismiss the real problem.

If I were you, I'd call 111 back and explain the extent of the bleeding plus dizziness and pain. They may connect you to an urgent care service or advise an alternative

passmethemilk · 28/05/2021 14:21

This sounds awful and I'm annoyed at your gp on your behalf.
If they have appointments they should fit you in.
Do you have the energy to insist? Anyone who can do this for you?
If you are still bleeding heavily then go to a and e.

Jessbow · 28/05/2021 14:22

I guess you shouldnt be going anywhere with D&V.

Try sipping some lemonade, keep your fluids up in the short term

HmmmmmmInteresting · 28/05/2021 14:26

In my experience A+E are crap for heavy bleeding. I was filling a pad every ten minutes and they did nothing apart from take blood and tell me to have my blood tested again in two days.

Nanniss · 28/05/2021 14:36

I work in a GP practice and I think this does warrant a telephone conversation with a GP. Be clear about what you want to achieve from the appointment, pain relief, something to help with the flooding (mefanamic acid?) or something else.

wasthisapanicattack · 28/05/2021 16:03

Going to ring OOH GP at 6 for advice and see if they can prescribe stronger analgesia and anti sickness - I think receptionist is right that it’s probably the jab causing a period and heavier/more painful as I’ve gone six months with nothing .. bleeding has slowed a little bit since this morning .

Have been admitted before with period problems and yep, have also found them to be pretty useless - sometimes have been given morphine for a couple of days but you go home more tired than you went in! Hopefully this being first day it’ll feel better and easier tomorrow .

standupsitdownturnaround · 28/05/2021 18:24

How did it go OP?

blueberryporridge · 28/05/2021 18:51

Am I reading this right - has a GP's receptionist really given you a diagnosis and healthcare advice....?

Honestly, OP, this won't help with the immediate problem but I think you need to change doctor, or even better, practice, because the way you are being treated by your current one is terrible.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

OurChristmasMiracle · 28/05/2021 18:56

@wasthisapanicattack

I have endometriosis and PCOS too. When I discussed with the gynae the amount of blood I was losing he told me that I should have presented at A and E. if you are losing sufficient to be flooding through hourly or more then you should get yourself checked especially as you are vomiting and dizzy too

Really hope you feel better soon.

Endo is shit.
