Reimbursement of postage

I recently stayed in a holiday let which had its own hot tub. My DD9 and the other child spent a lot of time in the hot tub. On day 2 of our stay I noticed a few marks on her tummy but thought nothing of it. Day 3 the hot tub was giving off a rancid smell so it couldn't be used.
Messaged the owner who sent someone to put more chemicals in it. There was no dispenser in the hot tub they gave out it behind something in the tub so we couldn't access it.
We were able to use the tub that night. On day 4 DD was covered in rash all over. On retuning home day 5 it was all up her face and making her very self conscious. I bought dermacool and antihistamine to relieve it a bit.
So anyway I had left my charger there in the rush to pack clean the place and get out by 10am. The wiener has messaged me now 10 days after we left to say she's posted it and to transfer the cost of postage. I'm thinking CF
Should I say you're having a laugh and they're lucky I haven't posted a negative review?

Did you offer to pay the postage though?
I run a holiday let and recently posted someone's passport tracked delivery.

Guest was super grateful and offered postage immediately he realised he left it.

I messaged back to say don't worry but perhaps might have considered it if he had assumed I would pay.

Hot tub issues are separate.

PyjamaFan · 28/05/2021 10:49

Hot tub issues are separate to the postage costs.

stayathomegardener · 28/05/2021 10:51

Also it's not just the postage, buying an envelope, driving to the post office all takes time. Again my guest was lovely I said I'm posting anyway on Thursday so no problem. Had he required delivery that day I'd have probably charged postage.

It is tight I grant you.

YABU

wishywashywoowoo70 · 28/05/2021 11:02

I didn't offer postage no. I asked if it had been found.

DD was diagnosed with hot tub folliculitis. I made the owner aware so I think it's pretty cheeky asking for reimbursement. They've asked me to review on FB too.

YABU for not having contacted the owner about the hot tube more than you did!

Why didn't you insist?

So the rash has nothing to do with your charger frankly.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 28/05/2021 11:04

I know the issues are separate but I think it's the least they could do considering they failed to maintain the hot tub properly.

The hot tub has absolutely nothing to do with the postage. If you don’t want to pay postage just buy a new charger.

Insist on what? I got in touch they came and treated it. There wasn't much more I could have done

The rash isn't related to the hot tub of course not Hmm

I agree OP, they are separate issues but it is a bit off that they won’t waive the postage charges given the issues with the hot tub. But as others have said, they don’t have to do not sure there’s much you can do.

Orf1abc · 28/05/2021 11:11

You can get folliculitis even in an adequately treated hot tub. They're a breeding ground for bacteria.

If you want your charger back, send the cost of postage.

DysmalRadius · 28/05/2021 11:12

I see what you mean - the owner knows that your break was significantly impacted by issues you experienced as a result of their failure to properly maintain their facilities, so the least you'd expect is that they wouldn't quibble over the postage is a small item given the circumstances.

The tub was stinking. You could smell it 2 foot away.
It clearly wasn't adequately treated. They've already posted it just messaged asking for reimbursement.

but..you STAYED? With your kids? and you used it?

...why?!? Confused

I can't think of anyone who would have been satisfied with "someone coming to treat it" if it was that bad!

Blossomtoes · 28/05/2021 11:18

And you let your child get into it? Seriously?

Orf1abc · 28/05/2021 11:20

You allowed your child to go in a stinking tub.

user1471457751 · 28/05/2021 11:20

It can't have been that bad if you let your child keep using it

PyjamaFan · 28/05/2021 11:21

I wouldn't have stayed in a cottage with a stinking tub. Nor would I have got in again 1 day after treatment was added.

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 11:22

It sounds like you are miffed about paying postage (reasonably or not) and are now making stuff up completely because of it.

WeAreTheHeroes · 28/05/2021 11:23

And this is why I don't go in them. I'd wait for your charger to arrive then pay for the postage. Then post a review about the state of the hot tub. That way you completely have the moral high ground.

Journeynotdestination · 28/05/2021 11:23

Postage is separate. Would a few £ make you feel better about the awful rash your child got? It wouldn’t me. Pay the postage, call health authorities and leave a bad review.
If the tub stank why did you go in it? That’s a bit remiss.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 28/05/2021 11:23

Of course I didn't let her in it. It was foul.
I messaged the owners to tell them.
Once it was treated and left for a couple of hours the we went in it.

Please stop making things up.
My question is is it cheeky to ask for postage when I haven't made a fuss about the issue with the hot tub

OP posts:
Ofallthebarsinalltheworld · 28/05/2021 11:24

I don't think they should have asked you for the money for postage and posted it back to you as good will.

Maybe it took them 10 days to send it back because other people had arrived at the holiday home and they couldn't get access. Also the covid guidelines say you have to keep left items in a bag for 7 days and then post back. When you requested the charger did you offer to pay postage?

The hot tub is a separate issue and I would take that further as that's a issue of health and safety.

Was the hot tub cold when you arrived at the holiday home?

Hope you dd is ok now. The poor wee scone 💐

You saw marks on your child's skin on day 2, it was 'stinking', and you allowed her to use it again after that?
