Reimbursement of postage

wishywashywoowoo70 · 28/05/2021 10:30

I recently stayed in a holiday let which had its own hot tub. My DD9 and the other child spent a lot of time in the hot tub. On day 2 of our stay I noticed a few marks on her tummy but thought nothing of it. Day 3 the hot tub was giving off a rancid smell so it couldn't be used.
Messaged the owner who sent someone to put more chemicals in it. There was no dispenser in the hot tub they gave out it behind something in the tub so we couldn't access it.
We were able to use the tub that night. On day 4 DD was covered in rash all over. On retuning home day 5 it was all up her face and making her very self conscious. I bought dermacool and antihistamine to relieve it a bit.
So anyway I had left my charger there in the rush to pack clean the place and get out by 10am. The wiener has messaged me now 10 days after we left to say she's posted it and to transfer the cost of postage. I'm thinking CF
Should I say you're having a laugh and they're lucky I haven't posted a negative review?

I don't know why people are so nasty 🙄

I'd feel the same as you OP. Yes, the issues are completely separate BUT you are miffed because you tried to be understanding and haven't left a bad review and so it's petty for them to ask for postage.

HildegardNightingale · 28/05/2021 11:26

We check our hot tub daily. I wouldn’t use a hot tub that was stinking tbh.
The postage is a separate issue.

KnowlWay · 28/05/2021 11:26

How much is it?
I left an entire chest of drawer of kids’ clothes that were returned immediately. The owner wouldn’t hear of postage being reimbursed. We’d had a very annoying fire alarm issue so I felt they were being generous but rightly so. Similarly your manky hot tub owners should wind their neck back in.

FelicityPike · 28/05/2021 11:26

So you left your charger there. That’s a you problem. Why should the owner be out postage costs to return your forgotten charger?!

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 11:32

Once it was treated and left for a couple of hours the we went in it.

in a previously stinky hot tub? Seriously?

someone to put more chemicals in it Is that ALL they did?
Envy really not envy.

It's not being "nasty" to be shocked that anyone would even consider doing that and put their own children in it! That's not being understanding, that's being .. foolish.

Cocomarine · 28/05/2021 11:38

It’s awful service to charge you for postage when the hot tub wasn’t properly maintained.

However, I am at a loss as to why you’re posting about what - a fiver? - postage cost, instead of posting about a partial refund because of the hot tub.

Mine can go from crystal clear to murky very quickly, so I wouldn’t have an issue with that, if they reacted quickly. Especially - hate to say it! - if there’s a chance your daughter peed in it?! But I find it odd that it was clear enough for you to happily use it, then go in one say to stinking from 2ft away. Also surprised that it was that bad, yet after treatment you went in again that night? Did I read that right? A massive chlorine shock wouldn’t clean it that quickly, and with that amount of chlorine you’d anyway want to wait 24 hours. The hot tub should have been well maintained with very clear instructions - but it does sound like some unwise choices on your part too.

Cocomarine · 28/05/2021 11:42

I’ve literally just been out to my hot tub 14 hours after a bigger than usual chlorine dose as it was slightly murky last night - it’s still not crystal clear, though my experience tells me that it will be by tonight, after the second dose I just put in.

I know that’s 🤢 for many on here! So I’m not trying to debate that.

I’m just sharing my experience that I don’t see something stinking from two foot away going to obviously clean again in a matter of hours. Either you used it when it wasn’t clear, or you exaggerated how bad it was.

In either case - you should be asking for money back, unless your child was peeing in it, or maybe going in with sun cream on. So I’m just bemused that the angst is over a few pounds for postage.

misspattylacosta · 28/05/2021 11:47

well, it's your hot tub. At least you know what went in there.

I wouldn't use a "communal" stinky hot tube, even after a dose or 2 of chlorine, I'd expect it to be thoroughly cleaned first (and even so....). How many people have been in that thing before you?

Freecuthbert · 28/05/2021 11:54

I always thought it was well known that hot tubs are pretty gross even if well maintaind and you accept that risk when you use one. Maybe I'm boring but I wouldn't let my kids use one on holiday. I think the postage is a separate issue and I think the right thing for you to do is to pay the postage, can't be much surely? She was probably trying to do the right thing by posting it but it is a bit cheeky to post without checking with you first if you want it posted.

tuttifuckinfruity · 28/05/2021 11:55

@wishywashywoowoo70

Of course I didn't let her in it. It was foul. I messaged the owners to tell them. Once it was treated and left for a couple of hours the we went in it.

Please stop making things up.
My question is is it cheeky to ask for postage when I haven't made a fuss about the issue with the hot tub

You need to leave a review clearly stating the issue about the hot tub.

That is entirely the point of reviews - you don't want some other kid (or adult) getting in a poorly maintained hot tub.

Yes, it probably was a bit cheeky of the owner to ask for reimbursement for postage knowing that your holiday had been sub par due to the hot tub; but they've done it now. As stated upthread, take the moral high ground - pay the postage, then leave a factual review of the accommodation and hot tub. Don't exaggerate or be rude, just state the truth.

That's why people read reviews to help them decide.
Hopefully the owner will sort out the hot tub.

Northofsomewhere · 28/05/2021 11:57

Surely if you wanted the charger returning then you accepted you had to pay the postage regardless of the hot tub issue. It also sounds like the issue was resolved very quickly once they were made aware of it and someone up thread has mentioned they can turn very quickly (hence why it was ok the previous day). Someone different also mentioned folliculitis can occur even in well maintained and cleaned hot tubs so it just sounds like bad luck particularly as the rash didn't really establish until after it had been cleaned. Even if you did notice something prior to cleaning, it was clearly so minor it may not have been the beginnings of folliculitis.

I think they are 2 entirely unrelated issue and should not impact paying for postage of an item you left behind, I would absolutely expect to pay postage or buy a replacement charger. If you wanted to leave an honest review regarding the hot tub you should irrelevant of whether they ask you to pay postage.

AtoZed · 28/05/2021 11:59

The two issues are totally different.

One: filthy sperm pond hot tub which you happily let your child use despite it stinking.

Two: being asked to pay postage for something to be returned to you that you forgot to pack.

Do you always blame everyone else?

CareBear50 · 28/05/2021 11:59

I agree with the OP. Under the circumstances of issues with hot tub, as a goodwill gesture the host should not have asked for the cost of postage to be reimbursed(unless the postage cost was exorbitant.....was it OP?)

LemonMuffins · 28/05/2021 12:04

This is why I really don't see the appeal of staying somewhere with a hot tub. A rancid pool of sex soup EnvySad

I would expect to pay postage for something I left behind. To be honest I'm surprised they were willing to send it back to you at all - lots of places wouldn't.

devilboughtmysoul · 28/05/2021 12:08

People need to back off OP. I think the two issues relate.

Also OP clearly stated by day 3 the hot tub stank and they didn’t use it. People love to reach.

Cocomarine · 28/05/2021 12:11

Oh I completely agree! My point is to share my experience of maintaining a hot tub. If it’s slightly off crystal clear - I’ll dose it with chlorine happily. Afterall, I swim in public pools. And as you say - it’s just me.

No way in hell would I get in something that I could smell from two feet away after it had been treated. Even my own. Utterly grim.

Complete empty, clean and refill.

If it wasn’t sparkling on day one - call the owner, don’t use.
If it was sparkling and changed that quickly - best guess is child peed in it.
But, whatever caused it, why did OP not insist it was drained and re-filled?
I can’t believe in a matter of hours and one treatment it went from actual stinking dirty to clean... and if it did, it would have taken so much chorine the child would have had chemical burns not folliculitis!

No, it isn't.
PyjamaFan · 28/05/2021 12:39

No it isn't cheeky of them. If you felt you deserved a refund you should have told them.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 28/05/2021 13:08

It wasn't visibility dirty. It was smelly.
The kids didn't wee in it they aren't small and know not to No suncream was worn either.

I'm not paying the postage.

I have no intention of wring a review of the place as I'd rather not be unpleasant about it I haven't asked for a refund. I knew the rash would clear up so I wasn't freaking out about it.

Anyways thank you all for your input

Arrowheart · 28/05/2021 13:32

How can you get so wound up over a charger. Just buy a new one and start taking responsibility for your belongings. You left it, you need to arrange to get it back. You leaving stuff behind is not her problem.

The hot tub is a separate issue. Nothing at all to do with the charger.

championthewonderhorse70 · 28/05/2021 14:20

I don't get the impression OP is wound up.
Just a bit miffed at the cheek of the owner.
YANBU id be telling them to go fuck

CoffeeCakey · 28/05/2021 14:33

I'd keep the issues seperate in case it is seen as compensation somehow. Please leave a review to help others!

I really don't understand now it's cheeky for someone to ask to not be out of pocket for returning and item left behind and incurring a cost for doing so.

It's completely irrelevant that they've already paid said person money (for the use of accommodation) or that there was an issue during their stay that was rectified promptly. If she'd left the charger at a friend's house but she'd had a bad experience for one day would she not pay her friends? It's only going to be several pounds that she rightly owes, why be so petty over something.

I actually think it's more petty to refuse to pay than it would be to leave an accurate review of her stay.
