To want a water and air tooth flosser thing?

cultkid · 27/05/2021 19:59

Do they work?

I went to the dentist for the first time in ages for a check up. Think More then 8 years kind of thing

I had a gum infection a few years ago other then that I don't want to go to the dentist if I don't have an issue!

So I have to have 4 teeth out the wisdom ones and my husband went for his checkup Same time as me. He needed a filling and was told to go to the hygienist. I was told I didn't need it. I have really tight teeth but the dentist said no cavities etc and didn't say to have the hygienist as my teeth looked ok but cramped

Now I am wondering if I should get an air floss thing like the dentist has? Aibu to get one for home use?

I use the little stick things to go between my teeth. I am 28, is it too late to start an air flosser?

I have a waterpik and I have to also use warm water in mine as it's too painful. I've been using mine for a couple of months now and my gums still bleed. I'm hoping this will improve as time goes on.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 27/05/2021 21:50

My hygienist recommended this one- much cheaper than the water pic original and I’m finding it great. Warm water not cold and you do need to practice but it’s amazing what it gets out. Wish I’d got one ages ago now

I have a cheap water flosser from Amazon. I’ve had it for a couple of years, and had no problems with my teeth since, and the hygienist is always pleased with my teeth and gums now. I struggled with flossing, so use this completely instead.

Londontown12 · 27/05/2021 21:53

I have one they ate amazing !! U won’t regret it x

therocinante · 27/05/2021 21:55

I've got a Fairywill water flosser and love it, but if you've got already sore gums (as I did when I first started using it anyway) it can be a little bit aggressive!

Mouth has never felt so clean though.

CliffFace · 27/05/2021 22:01

How do you avoid soaking the whole bathroom or do you learn to use it with your mouth closed ... I suppose you could use it in the shower

lakesidelife · 27/05/2021 22:04

I have a travel one I used in the shower.

WildNorthEast · 27/05/2021 22:29

@44PumpLane You are a genius! What a great idea, I might have to get one just to do the shower sliders now.

Pinkylemons · 27/05/2021 22:31

My dentist told me the only way to get between the teeth properly is with the little brushes and tape.

Season1Episode1 · 27/05/2021 22:33

The only voice of dissent here. I am so underwhelmed by mine. I think they are really overpriced. I don't think there is a difference between using mine and having a really good rinse.

lazyarse123 · 27/05/2021 22:35

Dh has one and he uses it every other day and loves it. He has an electric toothbrush for every day.

QueenPaw · 27/05/2021 22:37

@eatsleepread I have the fairywill one linked up there ^^ from Amazon and it's v good

44PumpLane · 27/05/2021 22:38

@WildNorthEast what an excellent user name..... I wonder if you're local to me! Grin

The water flosser is an amazing shower track cleaner..... The only proviso I have to give you is that there is a bit of a knack so you don't get water everywhere, but honestly it's brill! If you put a bit of white vinegar in it you can get the white vinegar into all the nooks and crannies and it'll kill mould and help loosen limescale as well.... Its turned out to be a great accident of a cleaning tool!

bettyshotspot · 27/05/2021 22:39

I got one, it's great but shot a filling out on the first go - a filling on the edge of a tooth not deep down so be careful if you have any of those, been too nervous to use it again

EverythingRuined · 27/05/2021 22:42

I love mine. I wouldn’t e without it. I’ve got crooked teeth so it helps a lot. I also floss using tape. My gum health is good. I also bought a teeth cleaning set from Amazon so I can scape plaque off where it builds up around my crooked teeth despite flossing, water jetting and brushing.

watingroom2 · 27/05/2021 22:44

If you have plaque problems you may be low in vitamin K... it gets calcium into the bones. Plaque build up is a sign!

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 27/05/2021 22:45

@Sparklingbrook

There's a definite knack to using them. Took me a couple of goes to get the hang of it. First go I was jetwashing the bathroom. Grin
I jet washed my face...
TheTeenageYears · 27/05/2021 22:51

I wouldn't be without mine. Was never a great flosser but adult braces were not going to be great for my teeth so I thought it would be a good option. On the rare occasion I don't use it (on a flight is about the only time in nearly 5 years) I am horrified at the crap that comes out using floss after brushing my teeth. I use my water flosser and then brush. Every now and then I will follow up with floss and pretty much find nothing. I have a home waterpik and a more portable Panasonic.

I told my dentist that and he recommended using it while I'm in the shower. Simples!
bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 27/05/2021 22:56

My dentist recommended one of these a few weeks ago but the choice was overwhelming. Will check some of the recs on here. Thanks.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/05/2021 23:00

My husband and I use a Waterpik and electric toothbrushes. I haven't had a cavity since I was 19 (30 years ago), and my husband has never had one. Our gums are also in fantastic shape. Highly recommend. Oral health is soooo important.

Overoptimistix · 27/05/2021 23:00

I have one, I have to use warm water as my teeth are super sensitive. I put a bit of mouthwash in too. It really does make your teeth feel dentist clean. I can cope with floss as my teeth are quite close together but this does an amazing job. Mine is just a cheap Amazon one.

Water Flossers for Teeth,... ]]

Thank you. I just ordered this!
PerfectionistProcrastinator · 28/05/2021 00:15

I find it really interesting that some posters here have had them recommended by their dentist and hygienist. When I told my dentist recently that I had started using a water flosser he rolled his eyes, said they do nothing but wash water around the mouth and said he didn’t know why people “wasted their money on these things”. But my gums have stopped bleeding since I’ve been using mine. Swelling has gone down and my teeth are cleaner. I get on with it so much easier than normal flossing.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/05/2021 00:21

Buying one too.
