To think that muted pastel baby toys that cost about X5 the price of the average are a waste of money and a bit pretentious?

Have noticed that some mums seem to only tolerate muted pastel baby toys from brands such as Little Dutch or Liewood, that usually cost about X5 the price of the average for that toy, is this a first time mum thing?

I like to think I have good taste and appreciate good quality, but it's starting to annoy me how snobby some people are about kids toys, surely at some point they are going to have to break free of the muted pastel colour palette? I think Instagram might have quite a lot to do with it.

I get most of my little ones toys second hand and as long as he finds it fun don't massively care what it looks like. I feel like I'm getting judged on my taste for this!

@misspattylacosta

I don't have children

I see, so much easier to be the perfect parent then 😂

I knew you'd pick up on that. 🙄 I never claimed to be the perfect parent. However, if allowing children choice and buying things they like makes you a perfect parent, then hopefully most people would fall into the perfect parent category, as it's hardly a high bar.

but the point was that children strive just as well in a non garish decor Whinge. If nothing else, a more quietly and subtly decorated bedroom is much better for them frankly.

Children don't need garish Pippa Pig onesie and fairy tutu for their development or well being either.

And yes, it's easy to have a very strong opinion on the subject and what you would do and what would work better if you don't have children yourself.

I did feel sorry for the parent of young kids who seemed to be dressed completely randomly with clashing colours etc.. as I always assumed they were too overwhelmed and the house was a tip so I was really sympathetic,
until I read on MN that it was supposed to be a fashion statement 😂“

Or maybe the children chose their clothes that morning? We used to go into town with Spider-Man, Stephanie or Sportacus (or a combination of all three) depending on the mood.

Does anyone really care about this stuff?

The best way to buy baby things is second hand, preferably from charity shops. I'm sure it's been said hundreds of times already on the thread but I just want to add my agreement!

😆

I’m wincing at the thought of getting that blue cheese in the eye!

You can just imagine that conversation.

Oh my goodness what happened to your eye?

Um my toddler through his wooden blue cheese at me and now I have a black eye. Hmm

That's quite possibly the most mn sentence I've ever written. Oh reflection I think I'd lie and say I walked into a door. Grin Grin

There is definitely a push towards all things Eco. which is understandable BUT If you don’t buy those brands then you aren’t being eco enough. And yes it is Instagram.
