........in buying a ready made outfit for the nursery nativity play???

My son is the donkey and they had a fab outfit in Asda for £5 - snapped it up and he has had it on all day.

Met a nursery mum today and told her - she looked at me in horror and said 'oh......you're not going to make an outfit then?!?'

Home made or ready made??

well you have bought it now, and £5 sounds too good to be true.
keep it. use it. don't worry about it. or lie and say you made it

NowKnownAsMummy · 17/11/2007 22:13

Don't think it matters. She just sounds like a cow!

Jenkeywoo · 17/11/2007 22:15

Ready made - if you enjoy making costumes and have time then all well and good but no need to feel guilty if you buy one.

Smithagain · 17/11/2007 22:15

Did you ask her how she would recommend making a donkey? And whether it would take more than £5 worth of time?!

Chipstick · 17/11/2007 22:18

I love you all....

Ready made it is - he looks dead cute in it bless him

I am making one for dd but that is because i work long hours and there are not many things i can do for dd and this is one of them. But if you want to buy one them do. If you want to make it look home made you could always try customising it. I once bought a mermaid costume and added some pretty shell detail to it.

rolledhedgehog · 18/11/2007 10:25

I bought a donkey outfit for DS from Woolies last year. He looked gorgeous in it! I can't make things.....but it did cost more than £5..so well done on the bargain!

francagoestohollywood · 18/11/2007 10:31

I bought a readymade donkey outfid for ds last year as well. I don't sew very well.

ScottishMummy · 18/11/2007 10:36

newgirl · 18/11/2007 11:42

SoupDragon · 18/11/2007 11:44

I hate ready made costumes with a vengeance.

VictorianSqualor · 18/11/2007 11:50

I normally make costumes for my DD but only because it's something I enjoy doing. I was never allowed anything like that at school, so I suppose I make up for it with DD.

She had wacky hair day at school on friday and I had done lots of little plaits, some backcombed little ponytails with ribbons attached and sprayed glitter all over, I thought everyone would have done something but most kids turned up with a different hair band to normal.

NKF · 18/11/2007 11:54

People are funny about homemade. At my children's school, some mothers make a positive virtue about of the fact they made the cakes for the stall. I mean fine in principle but some of them make seriously crap cakes. I bought a Victorian sponge affair once and it was like leather. And yet I'm sure they look down on me for the M&S mince pies.

VictorianSqualor · 18/11/2007 11:55

LOL NKF, I have always bought cakes for the cake stalls, I am a rubbish baker, although I have promised DD I'll make her some muffins to take in for her birthday next week, thank the Lord for twigletts recipes

It always amuses me how teachers assume you know how to do these things. We once had instructions to create a Roman helmet. Okay. Right. Err...how?

TheBlonde · 18/11/2007 12:03

I am lazy so sent my mum to asda to buy an outfit

VictorianSqualor · 18/11/2007 12:03

Kerrymum made a good point, there's making an angel outfit (which the wings are bought for) shoving a teatowel and aa dressing gown on (wisemen and joseph) and then a donkey........
A DONKEY! Not the easiest costume in the world!

blueshoes · 18/11/2007 12:07

Readymade, they are not the authentic experience but they do look so much nicer.

eBay also a good place to find costumes. It takes skill to bid and end up with a nice outfit at a bargain to arrive in time for the play

macdoodle · 18/11/2007 12:08

Well I am rubbish at sewing and arty stuff so bought here...would not embaress my DD by any of my attempts like I was at school....

SoupDragon · 18/11/2007 12:17

Donkey - long ears on a headband, brown jumper, brown trousers, tail. It's not rocket science

VictorianSqualor · 18/11/2007 12:19

That nos exactly a homemade costume though is it?
It's brown clothes.

NKF · 18/11/2007 12:21

It's suggestive though. A general donkeyness is implied.
