I've posted about her before I know. But I do feel she speaks about inappropriate topics with my grandkids. I am really trying to enforce good behaviour with them right now and yet she told them a story about when she was young and a child in her class farted loudly at storytime and the whole class erupted in laughter. The kids were laughing hysterically but I do feel it was inappropriate and not enforcing good behaviour/encouraging bad habits.

@TrinidadQueen

Hmm It's just not appropriate in my eyes. I don't want them to think that this is acceptable or funny. It may sound negative but I want them to be respectful and to learn class and manners. I just don't like them discussing these childish topics and thinking it is funny. I find it crude.
Class?! Read Jilly Cooper. Upper classes love farts, farting and talking about them. Super, darling.

Yes OP, you are indeed BU

CryMeAnAquifer · 24/05/2021 23:14

Good grief, life is shorter than you think.

Isn't it their parents job to teach them manners and how/when to be respectful in adult company?
Why are you usurping the parents role? What do they think of you being such an d fashioned authoritarian grandparent?

You're not in charge of them full time, I assume, (please correct me if you are in sole charge of raising them) so have some fun.
Or they will dodge you from teens onwards and you won't see them for dust as adults.

Sometimes it's better to be loved than to be "correct".

OloBo · 25/05/2021 03:13

The reason they found it so funny is that that they know it’s not an appropriate place to fart. Of course, any story with a fart in would be hilarious to them, but that just takes it to another level. Let them enjoy - you can chime in with a disapproving grandmother face periodically to amuse them even more if you like.

My Dad entertained my kids for years with a series of stories about "Fart the Dog" and his eruptions when tucking them in at night.
They loved bedtime stories with him and I can still remember the sound of their giggles.
They're nearly grown ups now and he is sadly very ill but they have never forgotten his ridiculous crude tales, still laugh about them today, and will always cherish those memories.
His toilet humour never lead to them being inappropriate in class though!

GreenWheat · 25/05/2021 03:35

My Dad knew a poem about dogs' bottoms. We used to love it when he recited it to us,we found it hilarious. Forty years later, I still remember all the words. Sharing the laugh was a bonding experience. I am pleased to report that I have grown up undamaged by the experience 😂😂

If this is the full depth of depravity your friend gets up to......you really need to rethink. I can guarantee the kids fart, eat their snot and probably do a whole lot worse. I'm more surprised she continues the friendship with you as it seems like you'd be pretty hard work to get along with.

grapefruitish · 25/05/2021 04:31

Your friend sounds really fun.

PhilCornwall1 · 25/05/2021 04:44

My youngest cranks them out when I'm on conference calls. You can see them all on screen wondering who did it.

Little things, but brightens up a boring call.

BigHeadBertha · 25/05/2021 04:52

I didn't see any other posts about this but in any given thread, we usually only get a few paragraphs, not the overall situation.

So I'll just add that if this friend is the life of the party in a way you asked her not to be too often, maybe she needs to stay home and be funny by herself when your grandkids come over.

BigHeadBertha · 25/05/2021 04:54

I mean I didn't see the other posts about this friend, which were mentioned in the original post.

LizzieW1969 · 25/05/2021 10:41

Oh do lighten up, of course children find farts funny.

FuckyouCovid21 · 25/05/2021 10:44

Fucking hell, they aren't even your kids. Unclench

ChicFennel · 25/05/2021 10:52

I hope your friend show them that song next

FuckyouCovid21 · 25/05/2021 10:54

But not too much - you might fart
