The teens have been going on about them since they were on X factor. I had vaguely clocked them because of that, and because of being a teacher, and having DD who has been listening to them since then.

It's been funny since Eurovision, a kind of polarity between yes! Italy is back in the music game and getting a boost after a frankly fucking awful 15 months- especially for kids (mine have had 10 days of live lessons since 9/3/20) and the old traditional "look at those louts with their long hair and eyeshadow and shouting and being half naked"

I am, as ever, with the kids on this one.

I clocked my class of 15 year olds on Saturday raise an "ooh" eyebrow when I said (they had to talk about someone they admire) "look, it doesn't matter if it's your gran, the Pope, your best mate or Damiano David as long as your English is OK"

Here in Italy I’d say they’re pretty well liked in the media, I think winning Sanremo (the big music festival which then sends the winning contestant to represent Italy at Eurovision) was probably considered a bigger deal than winning Eurovision tbh. They’ve been pretty popular for quite a while so I think it’s the rest of Europe (and me ) that is so newly obsessed with them!
