Sorry posting for traffic.
Get married in just over a week in Edinburgh city centre. Not booked a restaurant yet! It is just us, we want good food! Doesn't have to be really fancy.
We are there for nearly a week so lots of recommendations and food styles would be appreciated!

Can highly recommend The Devils Advocate. Gorgeous food and wine, would describe it as Scottish food with a twist. Lovely setting. We got married last July and were meant to go there after for a meal but covid put a stop to that! Leilas is another lovely place, we've only been for brunch. I think they do dinner. Well worth it for the decor alone! Leilas is Middle Eastern. They also own another 2 restaurants one called Pomegranate which is fantastic as well. The babaganoush is sublime!

Plump82 · 23/05/2021 10:52

Oh and Noks kitchen for Thai food is excellent as well.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 23/05/2021 11:00

Ondine is lovely for seafood, although they have a lot of scaffolding outside just now. Howie’s is great for affordable quality, and have branches in Victoria Street and just off Princes Street. It’s also byob, although I think that’s only on certain days of the week. The Outsider on George IV bridge is good as well, and has some good views of the castle.

tothesea · 23/05/2021 11:00

Congrats! How exciting.
Six by Nico is a bit special. I had a really lovely meal in the Herringbone, if you are visiting the Botanics while you’re here it is close by.
It’s been so long I am struggling to remember anywhere else!!

TimeForTeaAndG · 23/05/2021 11:01

The witchery is excellent, up at the castle on the Royal Mile. DH and I went there after we got engaged and the food was stunning.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 23/05/2021 11:04

If you’re looking for cocktails, Hey Palu on Bread Street is great, the cocktails are delicious and the staff are always so welcoming. The banana colada is to die for!

Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge is Tom Kitchin’s ‘other’ restaurant (The Kitchin - with the Star - is in Leith), and is lovely.

trevthecat · 23/05/2021 11:12

Oh some great recommendations already! Thank you, I will get googling! Also if any ideas of things to do, I would like to go to the botanical gardens I think and the castle, anything else? Even if it's a bit 'out there'!

go for a paddle at Portobello beach, watch the kayakers, sailboats and paddleboarders go by. Sea swimmers too. Plenty places to eat along the Prom, Beach House, Espy, Miros, pizza , Oscars gelato, Boathouse at end of prom
Bros bagels in High street, Greek artisan pastry shop, Forresters guild pub has beach houses in the back garden.
St Andrews takeaway for fish and chips

Or theres Silverknowes and Cramond, Another beach, where you can walk out to the island( tide permitting ), gaze hopefully over to Fife and look for the whale thats been spotted. There is the slight remains of Roman occupation there too

High end/pricy (but worth it!)

  • Six by Nico's in town - they cook a different 6 course tasting menu every six weeks and have good wine pairings. Lovely decor & feels fancy
  • Purslane in Stockbridge - best meal I ever had, absolutely amazing

Regular price range:

  • Locanda de gusti in Dalry - lovely small Italian place, great atmosphere and service
  • Indaba in Tollcross - Spanish tapas place, family owned, high quality ingredients and authentic Spanish food, really good!
  • Dine (just off Lothian road) - feels very fancy but cheaper than the high end restaurants, great menu with a good selection
  • Montpelliers in Bruntsfield - lovely for lunch/breakfast, Bruntsfield is a great area for a walk/coffee too

Cheaper side:

  • Tuk Tuk in Tollcross - casual vibe, Indian food (really good) and it's BYOB so can save lots by bringing your own drinks
  • Grand Cru in the city centre - they usually have a lunch deal that's great value for money but overall their pricing is very reasonable! Great food

Rollo's is beautiful

South queensferry is nice for a walk/pub lunch/ice cream. Camera obscura next to the castle is really good fun (optical illusions museum).

Obviously there's some nice whisky/gin tasting places too in the city centre if that's something you like!

Sunflowers095 · 23/05/2021 11:32

Rollo's is beautiful
Ooh yes another vote for Rollo's too! Never had a bad meal there. Their steak was amazing and they also have a tempura broccoli topped with crumbled blue cheese. So good!
myhobbyisouting · 23/05/2021 11:45

Underground Ghost Tours are fun. I think the one we did was with Mercat but there are a few.

Someone mentioned six by nico, it's not pricey really, only £30 or thereabouts for the tasting menu but they are fully booked for the next few weeks!

eatsleepread · 23/05/2021 11:48

Make sure you book the Botanics first. It is free, but ticketed due to Covid.

myhobbyisouting · 23/05/2021 12:18

Yes same for the museum, go and see Dolly the sheep Grin

newnortherner111 · 23/05/2021 12:26

This might be a bit left field, but somewhere that is just a cafe in all but name? So the one where apparently the first Harry Potter books were made, or at Holyrood Palace, or as suggested the museum or National Gallery of Scotland. Cafe Royal or the Guildford Arms just off Princes Street are restaurants within the pub.

You'll remember the novelty of a meal in a cafe more than if it were a restaurant I think.

dogistoobigforthesofa · 23/05/2021 12:36

Mother India in the Od Town area has great food and a relaxed vibe.

myhobbyisouting · 23/05/2021 12:36

Christ no, don't go to the Elephant House for your wedding day meal. Or at least read the reviews first and know you're in for a soggy ciabatta Grin

isseys4xmastinselcats · 23/05/2021 12:38

Le Petit Paris is on the market square below the castle small restaurant reasonable prices and good food and service

isseys4xmastinselcats · 23/05/2021 12:39

the dungeon is a good laugh for an hour , mary king street ,

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 23/05/2021 12:55

for a fancy meal The Witchery is ace, as is the restaurant at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street. Both are pricy but worth it, imo. The Malt Whisky Society also good for whisky- obviously- but you don't need to be a member to go to the restaurant
would also recommend Mimi's on the Royal Mile for fab cupcakes and tray bakes

KidneyBeans · 23/05/2021 14:31

The apiary/three birds/educated flea are lovely
The kitchin in Leith
The kings wark on the shore

newnortherner111 · 23/05/2021 14:40

One I forgot (sorry) was the Royal Yacht Brittania.

Jayceewhy · 23/05/2021 14:48

Chophouse in leith for steak (close to the shore too so excellent for pictures)

Nok’s in Stockbridge for thai

Tuk tuk for Indian

El Cartel for Mexican
