Extra scary bits added onto vaccine passport/app thingy?

Bepacific · 21/05/2021 22:37

I was watching Talkradio earlier and the discussion was about extra info being added to the vaccine app, that appeared to have zero relevance to anything covid related.
Things such as full health history, work history, any criminal convictions etc.
Aibu to think this sounds utterly bizarre or have I got it wrong?

@PossiblyGayJane

Definitely YABU for believing any old TalkRadio rubbish.
I din't do radio but I think Big Brother Watch are a decent organisation.

Rejecting the worries because of the platform is a bit mad.

I have my vaccine details on there but as I haven't given permission to my GP surgery to have medical info carried across it doesn't show.

InTheHeatOfTheSun · 22/05/2021 11:40

I think we're just looking a little further into the future than you guys are

I think it's more a care of misunderstanding the present than looking into the future. It's a standard list of data with the data that is actually being held clearly marked. That's all. As for vaccination passports to make international travel easier, I'm sure when a person is standing at border control having just landed somewhere sunny for a holiday, behind able to prove that you've had the vaccine will be seen to be a good thing. The EU are introducing vaccination passports (or digital covid certificates if you prefer) across the whole of Europe.

@EileenGC

We have both ID and health cards in my home country. They contain all the information you’ve mentioned, and have done for decades. It’s fine, millions of people go about their life without even noticing.

ID Card can be scanned by the police or other public officials - it’s a unique number that you use for work, insurances, cars, mortgages, criminal records if any. Your whole life is on there.

Same for the health card, this time with your medical history. No one gives these things a second thought.

What happens when errors are made?
thegreenlight · 22/05/2021 14:52

To be fair - if it meant everything went back to normal I would have a bloody microchip put in my arm with the vaccine or whatever the conspiracy is now - I am very boring though and doubt what I do would be of any interest to anyone!

InTheHeatOfTheSun · 22/05/2021 15:32

I think it's important to understand that the app screenshots show two sets of data: personal data and special categories data.

No I'm not concerned about domestic vaccination 'passports'. Given where we find ourselves now, and the impact vaccination is clearly having on the number of infections and in turn, deaths, I can understand why a government would, with the benefit of hindsight, go down a domestic vaccine 'passport' to help keep infections down. It is one step on the path to enable life to return to normal. As long as there is a way for those who don't or can't access technology to prove their vaccination status, it's something I'm prepared to accept

PossiblyGayJane · 22/05/2021 16:15

So we should treat all concerns as valid irrespective of whether they come from a scientist or Dave from next door? 🙄

Some platforms do their research, use reliable sources and are peer reviewed.

Some platforms say anything for clicks/listens.

I know which one I think is more reliable.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/05/2021 16:25
@Merryoldgoat Ok, but why does it need all this info?
Because, pre-covid, it was asked for. It is a portal through which you can access your own medical records, contact your GP etc.. Something we haven't been easily able to do before.

The 'new' thing is adding your covd vacccine data to it. ALL of the other data you mention is what it is there to collect, because that's the data the NHS already holds on you - if you have ever accessed NHS care. Sign up for yours, have a look!

It may well be that it needs to be looked at more closely, controlled so that it does not start to hold too much data that we haven't specifically agreed to, like the criminal record and any future Special Categories. But calling it a vaccine passport and slating it on that bais is ludicrous!

We need not to sleepwalk into either accepting the ever increasing data that seems to be so loved by many AND not to refuse any new data collation that would be of benefit.

To know the difference it is important we know what we are actually discussing!

@AnotherOneFightsTheRust I can really easily believe that no one put any significant thought into the format and wording of the privacy notice associated with the changes to the NHS App related to adding covid vaccine status. It is a shame that no one thought to run it past the Plain English organisation and really consider the audience.

What doesn't help that though is people posting out of context, cropped images on platforms like Twitter, with no reference to where it's come from. Especially with parts underlined in red and angry comments underneath. Then other people forwarding it without finding out more about it, and then eventually it being discussed on a radio show without anyone at that radio show doing any kind of due diligence. All for an app that you don't even need to download or use if you don't want to.

Here we are, a year on from March 2020, and we still don't have vaccine passports or digital ids.

loulouljh · 22/05/2021 22:00

We should never have vaccine passports. over my dead body will I download this wretched app. Do you not care about your data? How it can be used against you?

Looks like certain European countries (Spain, Portugal) Will admit people without any proof of vaccination or testing. Hurrah. Common sense prevails.

InTheHeatOfTheSun · 22/05/2021 23:25

Bearing in mind the amount of data already held about us by many government departments and within many NHS systems (GP, hospitals, community trusts etc) I'm struggling to understand how the inclusion of whether I've been vaccinated on my digital NHS record can be used against me.

InTheHeatOfTheSun · 22/05/2021 23:27

Oh and I'm also struggling to understand what the common sense is in allowing masses to gather on holiday without any evidence of vaccination.

Yeah, @InTheHeatOfTheSun , you need to get your views from YouTube instead of MSM, think critically, and stop being a sheeple 😉😉😂
