I am so sick of this phrase being thrown about whenever posters are discussing rules not applying to them. That’s all it translates as: I don’t want to follow that rule and I am far superior to all you sheep blindly following the rules!

Every time I see it, I get irrationally cross. I know IABU to get so annoyed about it.

Anyone else get annoyed at this or another constantly used MN phrase?

You're not wrong

What a stupid phrase. Think about it for a moment and then don't use it.

Its entire purpose is to analyse and make informed predictions about whatever field (economic, scientific, behavioural, financial etc). Whereas the "modelling" you are talking about is aimed at influencing an individual by showing them something and hoping they copy it. One has nothing to do with the other.

Yes. I’m aware of that. I never said it was.

I don't think you understand what critical thinking is OP.

Agreed.

Yes. I’m aware of that. I never said it was.

Except when you did. You said that when modelling you think about you trying to show children ways to behave or think and hoping they copy it, when as you admit this has absolutely nothing to do with mathematical modelling or scenarios/ stress testing scenarios based on different parameters and assumptions in mathematical models, etc.

What is it that you teach OP?

FrankensteinIsTheMonster · 23/05/2021 00:37

Not as much as "crack on". That's been all over MN like chicken pox for a while.

Sparklingbrook · 23/05/2021 08:31

How about ‘you do you’. What a nothing phrase that is.

...and particularly irritating when used in the context of threads about trying to curtail the spread of an infectious disease.

I fucking LOVE critical thinking.
AND informed decisions.

I'm really not willing to change. But I might change my username to Smuggy Legs.

IIRC you can do an AS level in Critical Thinking. If you are that way inclined.
