TippledPink · 20/05/2021 23:27

No, young adult 18-24. 25 just misses out!

PurpleSunrise · 20/05/2021 23:28

I’d think adult given young adult in my mind is older teenagers to early 20s perhaps. But they are still young of course!

Tryingtryingandtrying · 20/05/2021 23:29

No. 25 is an adult. Young adult would be 18 to 24 maybe, poss even 16 to 24

DramaAlpaca · 20/05/2021 23:34

Yes. I'm in my 50s with children in their mid-20s. They are young adults to me.

therocinante · 20/05/2021 23:35

No. I'd say up to 23ish was young adult, 25 is just adult.

Empressofthemundane · 20/05/2021 23:35

Yes, of course.

caringcarer · 20/05/2021 23:37

I'm in 50's with youngest son 25 and I think of him as a young adult. He is finally becoming more mature over last 2 years though. I think 18-25. 26 is adult.

paralysedbyinertia · 20/05/2021 23:38

Yes, I think 25 is still a young adult. 26 as well. 27, not so much!Grin

GreenClock · 20/05/2021 23:39

It’s young of course (as is 30 or 35) but to me 18-22 is “young adult”

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 20/05/2021 23:41

They're all fucking young from over here.

Sittingonabench · 21/05/2021 00:02

18-21 is young adult. By 22 most have the capacity to run their own lives with responsibilities and consequences that entails. Adulthood seems to be getting older and older and I’m not sure why. It’s surely not good for people to feel infantilised into their 20’s?

Newstepchild · 21/05/2021 00:03

Yes

IdblowJonSnow · 21/05/2021 00:56

34 now seems young to me!! Grin

AbsentmindedWoman · 21/05/2021 01:02

@SuziQuatrosFatNan

They're all fucking young from over here.

Maybe Janet Livermore from Singles can help you decide.
"I think time's running out to do something bizarre. Somewhere around 25, bizarre becomes immature."

Ostara212 · 21/05/2021 01:08

Adult.

Young adult 18 to 21 at a push.

Etsylicious · 21/05/2021 01:09

Yes, course...

EmeraldShamrock · 21/05/2021 01:21

A young adult is learning the ropes there is room for error, I'd expect a 25 y.o to be on the right road or have a direction.

GreyEyedWitch · 21/05/2021 02:17

No, 18 - 24 imo too.

MadMadMadamMim · 21/05/2021 02:24

Adult. I was married with a mortgage and two kids at that age. My 25 year old DD is a Staff Nurse in charge of wards. imo it's a little patronising not to consider someone to be fully grown and responsible by that age.

My son in law had served two tours of Afghanistan by 25. Young adult to me has connotations of ooh...barely out their teens. Not really a grown up.

It's not a term that should be still applicable in your mid twenties, surely?

JaninaDuszejko · 21/05/2021 02:29

I think anyone under 40 is a young adult, 40-60 is middle aged, 60+ is old and 80+ is elderly (although MIL is 85 and full of energy so would probably reject the elderly label Grin).

PinkSatinMoon · 21/05/2021 02:32

Adult

I don’t think the phrase young adult means immature or needs to be a judgement in anyway. Just an adult who is younger (has an age which is much less than) the average adult age.
SquarePeggyLeggy · 21/05/2021 02:57

I was engaged at 25 and living and working abroad. I was just a (not old) adult. I think 21 is a significant birthday... because after that you’re an adult. Possibly graduated uni, working and able to live independently.
