Due to go camping tomorrow to Pooley bridge ulswater with family and 2 toddlers 3 and 1

Partner is not keen on going as the forecast looks pretty grim 😩 but I'm still keen to go? Is it just a recipe for disaster??

That sounds like a miserable plan. It’s challenging enough to be stuck in a hotel room with 2 toddlers. But I’m the wrong person to comment, as I wouldn’t want to be in a tent in any weather.

Dishwashersaurous · 19/05/2021 21:42

How long does it take to put up the tent and can one of you do it?

Otherwise trying to keep two toddlers under control in the rain whilst putting up the tent will be a disaster

brondary · 19/05/2021 22:06

Kids will probably love it as long as they are warm and kept dry. You on the other hand...
Depends on how hardy you are. I used to love camping in the rain as a young child. Not convinced my mum did.
But since you do want to go, I would go. I would have wine bottles and buy fish and chips takeout the first night. Being tipsy always makes everything feel better and fun.

There's no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate clothing choices...

Well it is the lake District for a reason....tbh I'd go. We were there last year in 50mph gusts and while I thought we might die, the kids slept through.

More usefully, make sure you have booked any activities etc before you go. Have it all planned. There's plenty to do indoors in the Lakes, you just need to be organised (which I am not)

Dozer · 20/05/2021 06:53

Thing is, it’s nigh on impossible to keep warm and dry without staying inside the whole time.

Darbs76 · 20/05/2021 07:54

It would be a definite no for me

giraffes2021 · 20/05/2021 21:03

Weather has been bad today so we're all tucked up in bed at home hahaha

Might go in the morning if the forecast is brighter!

We are going this weekend. Rain is fine but I would double check the wind where you are. We camped last year in similar wind and by morning only the airbeam tents were still standing.

I wouldn't fancy pitching in that wind. Luckily where we are going wind is dying out by 3pm

imjustanerd · 21/05/2021 07:32

I couldn't think of anything worse tbh but each to their own.

LynnInAVan · 21/05/2021 07:33

I’m going next weekend, same site! It’s rescheduled from a horrible weekend last year, you could’ve called them

I’d qualify that by saying unless your planning to go camping in a tent with 2 toddlers 🙈😬 I can see you’re still going, hope you manage to enjoy it. You’re braver than me!
Daisy829 · 21/05/2021 07:41

No I wouldn’t. It doesn’t sound fun for anyone. I enjoy camping but not for a weekend where it’s meant to rain the whole time. We have a booking for next weekend. Hoping we can go

RattlesnakesUnfold · 21/05/2021 07:46

How waterproof is your tent? Does it leak if someone leans on a wet wall? Camping with toddlers in rain sounds like a nightmare to me, unless you all have full waterproofs with rain-hoods (actually 2 sets as getting a damp puddlesuit onto a wriggly toddler is difficult in a tent!)

How will you dry all the wet stuff in a tent?

NotMeNoNo · 21/05/2021 07:54

By all means try but have an exit plan. We've been rained off camping before. Its a cheap holiday and you have the flexibility.
