Wibu to take them for a walk?

DD and her boyfriend live with me. Her boyfriend has symptoms of covid (sore throat and a cough) he's had a test but hasn't had the results back yet. We're all isolating and my DC's (6,5 and 3) are off school and nursery. WIBU to take them for a quick walk? We obviously won't go to the playground in the park or indoors anywhere but they seem fine for now and aren't poorly.

I may be wrong but thought it was just the person with symptoms who had to isolate until the test result comes back? If it comes back positive then you all have to isolate but I don’t think you’re all forced to isolate before he has a result.

BingBongToTheMoon · 18/05/2021 13:19

Yes!

What? No, the household have to isolate!
Onceuponatime1818 · 18/05/2021 13:20

@Thatisnotwhatisaid

Seriously?!!!!!

Whole household isolates until negative test confirmed by pcr. Has been the case for about errrm 14 months!! Seriously people!

Stichintime · 18/05/2021 13:22

You need to wait for the test results to come back. Part of the reason for the spread is people thinking ' I'll just go for a little walk... I just quickly pop to the shop...'

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/05/2021 13:23

Test results are coming back in 24 hours. I reckon you can skip the walk for a day OP.

emmathedilemma · 18/05/2021 13:24

YABU
Government advice is currently that everyone in the household should isolate if anyone has symptoms or a positive test result. I'm sure it used to be only the person with the symptoms but them's now the rules!

newnortherner111 · 18/05/2021 13:25

Wait for the results. Unless you are fortunate it's a good chance it will rain anyway.

sqirrelfriends · 18/05/2021 13:25

No, you can't go anywhere until he has a negative test result.

If all of mumsnet said "yes, go nuts", would you?

Accidentallydeletedoopsss · 18/05/2021 13:25

Surely you can cope staying at home for 24 hours?

Like I said in my OP we wouldn't be going to a shop, it'd just be a quick walk.

The DC's are very bored already and they still have lots of energy so I was thinking of taking them for a walk to burn off some of the energy.

Well yes it is boring for kids to stay home but it’s for the greater good so you’ll have to find ways to burn off energy at home!

sqirrelfriends · 18/05/2021 13:36

I know it's a pain but most of us have had to do it at some point.

Crabbitcrab · 18/05/2021 13:39

Do something with them at home

freakyfridays · 18/05/2021 13:40

No word, absolutely no word

We should be used to entitled parents, but it 's still depressing.

SquishySquirmy · 18/05/2021 13:41

The rules are clear that none of you should leave the house.
But it is difficult, I know, because in terms of actual risk a short walk outside avoiding others is probably low risk.
However, I would advise sticking to the rules. (I'd also have concerns about being spotted by someone from nursery or school...)
Do you have a garden?
At least you will be stuck in for a short time only (hopefully!) It was so much worse when there were no tests and even a day of symptoms meant a whole 2 weeks inside!

FoxtrotSkarloey · 18/05/2021 13:41

YABU. I've had to do it five times with my son. It's shit but it's only one day.

MindyStClaire · 18/05/2021 13:44

It's miserable when they need to run off some energy, but you need to isolate. There's a group called reg dolly annas who do youtube videos with singing and dancing to songs. DD is younger than yours (3) but if we get her running around to that it helps a bit, might be worth a try.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 18/05/2021 13:46

December 2019 - last time I saw any family, because I've stuck to the rules.
I really think you and the kids can give a walk a swerve today Hmm

SquishySquirmy · 18/05/2021 13:46

To burn off energy inside....
Stick music on, have a family disco.
Stick an exercise or dance lesson from YouTube on, follow it together.
Virtually climb a mountain or big hill by going up and down the stairs (if you have them). Obviously don't let the kids go too fast in case they fall.
Competitions - who can do the most star jumps? Who can stand on one leg the longest? Etc...
Gets tedious for weeks on end, but for one day there is plenty to do inside!

PineappleWilson · 18/05/2021 13:48

If one person has been asked to isolate e.g. becaue a bubble burst at school, the rest of the family can go about their business, but once someone has symptoms, you're all at home until the test results are back I'm afraid.

idontlikealdi · 18/05/2021 13:50

Yes UWBU. PITA but it's only one day.

northbacchus · 18/05/2021 14:05

Yabvvvu, no one should be going on walks if you're meant to be isolating until results come back.

Do you have a garden OP? If not, I'd suggest youtubing for some kids exercise based on their interests: baby shark etc?

LookItsMeAgain · 18/05/2021 14:09

Yes, you would be unreasonable. Very. We're so so so so close to getting out of lockdown and lo and behold we have people like the OP who STILL don't get that if you are a close contact or living under the same roof as someone who has symptoms of Covid, that until the test comes back clear, you isolate.
You might not be showing symptoms.
Your children might not be showing symptoms.
You could all be infected and not showing symptoms. You could all be positive for Covid and not be showing symptoms.
If you go out and infect 1 person, that person goes home to their family of 5, they become infected and they don't show symptoms for a few days so they carry on going to work/school etc. and infect more and more people so the cycle carries on.

Just for the sake of a walk.

I know it sucks. Please don't go out until you get the test results.
