To be quite annoyed at this advice!

I live in a Scotland and for your vaccine you are given a time slot in a particular day. I just saw on Facebook someone asking ‘if I’m due to go today but don’t want to wait till 5pm can I just go at any time?’ Lots of people are saying ‘yes it’s fine!’ And ‘yep just go down and see!’

The time slots are to ensure there are not too many people in the place at one time and also if I go down for my appointment time and there are 20 extra people who aren’t due to go queuing up it will take longer! I am being U today anyway due to not sleeping well and the period from hell, but this is ridiculous isn’t it?

When I had my first vaccine they were very clear at the centre they would only admit you for your given time, those people turning up at yours early might find the same, u less there are loads of booked-in no-shows.

DeltaFlyer · 18/05/2021 11:38

Yanbu
At the centre I went to (England) they were turning away people who arrived more than 10 mins early for an appointment.

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/05/2021 11:39

Just get off Facebook. You’ll be far happier.

BashfulClam · 18/05/2021 11:40

@justanotherneighinparadise but what will I then do to find pointless things to annoy me??

So glad it’s not just me that finds this daft. I don’t want to stand in a queue for ages as I have awful period cramp in my thoughts and back, ibuprofen isn’t doing much for it. I’m just glad to be getting my vaccine!

TBH my local hospital gives you a time slot - mine was 8.30am - there must have been 40 people in the queue, all with the same time and 3 nurses vaccinating. My Trust is just grateful that people turn up. Some helpful soul Hmm put a post out on a FB group that there might be spare vaxx at the end of the day, no exaggeration the queue at 6pm was 400 yards long
NeedNewKnees · 18/05/2021 11:44

They don’t let people on site more than a few minutes before their appointment, so those idiots going early will be turned away.

They won’t affect your queue, they’ll be told to leave and come back at the correct time.

BashfulClam · 18/05/2021 11:46

Good to know, 4pm today I get my first injection so I can be controlled by Bill Gates lol

I’m not in Scotland, but when I went for mine, they were asking people to come back who were more than about 20 minutes early if they had somewhere out of the way to wait

One lady had come on the bus and the time tabling meant she would arrive half an hour early or half an hour late so they let her join the queue, but most people just went back to their cars.

BashfulClam · 18/05/2021 11:54

@alloalloallo that’s another reason not to go early as there will be some who can’t avoid it if they need to use public transport. It’s fine people you will get your hands just wait a few hours!

I had my first one on Saturday.

I booked from the text I received, appt was at 1120. I was on time.

I was asked if i had booked with my gp or online which told me where to go - but they were not arsed about anything else! The nurse who gave me the shot checked my details but when I said I had an appointment it wasn’t checked.

Having said that, I was in and out within 15 minutes and ten of those were the allotted ‘sitting down’ time so it’s obviously not an issue here!

Steady stream of people in and out but no queues. Very efficient.

deveronvalley · 18/05/2021 12:44

Our set-up (Scotland, small rural town, clinic is the town hall) wouldn't really allow for people turning up at the wrong time and I have never seen a queue outside, they would be blocking the pavement here. My appointment was at 10.56 so obviously they have it worked out to the minute for a reason. Maybe some of the bigger places have a bit more flexibility.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 18/05/2021 12:51

If people are going early then you might find it’s quiet when you get there so don’t have to mix with people or wait. Always a flip side 😀

BashfulClam · 18/05/2021 12:55

We have to get a letter in Scotland, no online booking although I think that might be coming for the areas who are accelerating younger residents in areas with high prevalence.

OP posts:
BashfulClam · 18/05/2021 12:56

@Idontgiveagriffindamn true that’s the flip side. People just sent seem to wait for anything.

I'm in Scotland. It depends where you live. Everyone over the age of 18 has been invited to get their vaccine here and people can just drop in. I had my first one last Monday and someone came down the queue checking who had appointments, as they had priority. The following day, the queue was reported to be 1 to 2 hours long. However, it was also reported on Wednesday/Thursday (I can't remember exactly) that 3 out of 4 of all adults here had now had their first vaccinations

SamMil · 18/05/2021 13:04

At ours they'd printed out the vaccination cards in advance and sorted them into boxes according to timeslots, so I can imagine everyone turning up at random times would disrupt the system somewhat.

Just come on Mumsnet, you'll find plenty to annoy you on here Grin

Whanganui · 18/05/2021 13:14

When I had my first there was a father & son there amongst many, the nurses couldn’t find the dad on the list. This cheeky cunt let the nurses double check knowing full well that he was never on the list. He’d turned up with his son in the hope of getting an early jab.

UserAtRandom · 18/05/2021 13:15

Our local centre has lots of slots free so is telling people (in eligible groups) that it's fine to just turn up without an appointment.

So whether this is U depends on whether the centre is fully booked or not.

Tal45 · 18/05/2021 13:20

We arrived 20 minutes early as we had to travel, apologised for being early and they ushered us in saying noone was waiting. While we were waiting in the car for 15 minutes after lots of people suddenly arrived at the same time.

Tal45 · 18/05/2021 13:21

*had to travel some distance to the appointment

BrieAndChilli · 18/05/2021 13:28

well we are in Wales and got letters with a specific time on. me and dH were 2 hours apart and its in the city which is about 30 minutes away so we went for DH slot as his was earlier, they let me go through no problem and have it together rather than waiting. no long queues or anything as as we were together it didnt make anything any longer for anyone else as we were processed together, went throught the advice etc together and sat at the same table and had jabs at the same time etc.
