What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

I dont use red straws.
I sometimes dont want to wear black clothes.
Stems from when my daughter had miscarriages.
She has 3 healthy children now. I think I need to stop the above.

I touch a mug before I pour something into it. But that is because I can be clumsy. I break a lot of crockery!

@InMySpareTime

Socks must hang in pairs on the washing line, and any odd socks that have somehow made it through the wash cannot hang in the line, otherwise decently paired socks might hanker for the single life. They must hang with their toes facing the house, so if they run away they'll head home. Pants must hang with the crotch facing away from the house, so the wind blowing through them will blow the pantness away from the house. The front of the pants must face towards the sun, and if the washing dries over lunchtime the pants must be rehung to face the new position of the sun. Toilet paper must hang with the loose end furthest from the wall. CDs/DVDs/Blu-rays must be in alphabetical order (ignoring "the") with exceptions for box sets or series that are stored by series name in series order. If any are lent out, the gap on the shelf must remain until it is returned, so the errant disc knows it has a home to return to.
These are all good rules.

You are very wise.

butterpuffed · 17/05/2021 16:49

When I wipe dry the cutlery, if there are thirteen of them, I have to wipe the thirteenth, put it back in the washing up water, take it out and wipe it dry again. Blush

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/05/2021 16:50

I'm like that with my bed too. I often walk in the room and find dp under the covers in his work clothes, or football kit. I could cry sometimes!
I can't go to bed unless everything in the house is in its place and the dishes, hoovering, and all wiping down is done. I have a very long strict routine I have to flow at night. It doesntbhave to be done in an order, but everything has to be done every night or I can't go to bed. It's quite stressful sometimes.

WestendVBroadway · 17/05/2021 16:51

@Mellonsprite & @InMySpareTime.
I also have to use matching pegs to pin out washing. I used to have black , coloured and wooden pegs in bag, so had to use 2 black, 2 wooden or matching colours. I have ditched the coloured ones now, so just worry about them both being black or wooden.
Socks must always be hung up next to their twin on the washing line.
When hanging clothes in the wardrobe they must all be placed on the hangers so that when you hang them , all clothes will have their fronts facing to the left, iykwim.
If I were served beans when out for breakfast( wouldn't normally choose to have them) they must be corralled away from any other item so as not to contaminate it.
If I make hot chocolate at home I have to keep the spoon in the cup while I am drinking it. I have never been unfortunate enough to poke myself in the eye yet

maddiemookins16mum · 17/05/2021 16:51

Knickers on before bra.

Mamamamasaurus · 17/05/2021 16:51

Volume or any numbered dial on an even number.

I never finish a drink completely - there are ALWAYS dregs at the bottom of anything, be that tea, coffee or a cold drink. I can't bring myself to finish that last drop.

MyShrivelledGnarlyFinger · 17/05/2021 16:52

If taking stuff out of the microwave early the clock must never be stopped when there are 13 seconds left.

Bells3032 · 17/05/2021 16:52

Do not eat from my plate and i refuse to eat from anyone else's. I don't mind sharing plates of food if that's what they are intended to be but once it's on my plate it's mine, once it's on your plate it yours.

I also have to eat my food in order....protein, carbs then veg

tobedtoMNandfart · 17/05/2021 16:52
@tobedtoMNandfart haha Smile. I can't stand the buzzer noise and can't figure out how to make it silent! And somehow has turned into the 1 second challenge.

Same when I put petrol in the car; I could use the pre-select $50 option OR like I always do challenge myself to get to $50 and not go over.
We may have been separated at birth.

I used to do the petrol thing ... until one day I mulled over how many hours of my life I have wasted 🤣

Redcrayons · 17/05/2021 16:53

New shoes on the table, another one of my nana’s rules.

I also don’t like an odd number of things. I can’t have one candle, got to be two. I’ve broken a picture frame so I have 3 on my windowsill. It’s like they’re mocking me.

Watchingstars88 · 17/05/2021 16:56

Omg I have loads... main ones are...
Dog items (bowl, blanket, toys) washed and kept separately from human stuff. I could never wash the dog bowl up in our sink with our dishes. Same goes for her blankets, done at 90°C on their own in the wash with some Dettol added to the wash. I save them up until there are enough for a full wash.

Can't stand people coming in to the house wearing shoes, take them off please.

I cannot eat homemade food cooked by other people (unless I know them well and know if their houses are of a reasonable hygiene standard). Sounds awful but can't help it. An elderly aunt gave us a jar of chutney once that she'd made and I just couldn't Confused

maxineputyourredshoeson · 17/05/2021 16:57

Food can’t touch - except for certain foods are okay.

Anything with a number has to be on an even number.

I always go for a wee before dinner - others now also wee before dinner so we’re all queuing up before we eat (we only have one toilet) If I go to soon before dinner is ready I have to go again, I can’t eat unless I have.

maxineputyourredshoeson · 17/05/2021 17:00

I’ve just remembered another one! I will only have food and drink given to me by ‘safe’ people. And only eat from specific takeaways or go to certain pubs/cafes.

ThatMortgageDilemma · 17/05/2021 17:00

Hate being served in chopping boards, unless is a sharing platter, roof tiles, tree slices, etc. I just want my food served in a normal plate.

I remember going to Varsity as young and they had something that looked pretty decent but was served in dog bowl, WTAF???

123ZYX · 17/05/2021 17:00

@StrawberrySquash

I think the mug thing is quite common. My theory is hot drinks are fine because they are soft and round like the mug is thick and curved. Cold drinks are hard and sharp and that matches better with the character of glass.
This is exactly right. As there's someone who agrees, that must mean I'm not weird 😀
Coatz · 17/05/2021 17:01

Mine is the washing up, i have to do the dishes while cooking when im finished with a certain pan etc or immediately after using a plate. However cups don't bother me, i find it really hard being the only one who wahes up there are constant dishes in the sink from others and i have to wash up several times a day when i see them. I can't leave the house if there are dishes in the sink and its the first thing i check when im home. (I'm such a weirdo!)

Also agree with the using a different cloth to wash up and wipe down the kitchen with. My DM tries to be useful and help with washing up and ALWAYS uses the cloth i use to wipe down with to wash up and it gives me rage. I have told her many times it feels like cross contamination.

And i also have what i think are odd rules about washing my hands after touching certain things, so for example making a packed lunch i will wash them after touching ham to make a sandwich then wash them if i slice some fruit and the juice touches me and then i have to wash them everytime i put something in the bin Grin

I'm not normal am i....

ThatMortgageDilemma · 17/05/2021 17:02

Can't touch raw chicken or soil with my bare hands without feeling the need to disinfect my hands and everything in the kitchen that I touched and... didn't.

EssexLioness · 17/05/2021 17:03

@Redcrayons I am the same with odd numbers of things. We had a set of 4 beautiful sundae dishes. One broke about two weeks ago and now three just look so wrong on the shelf. Part of me has been tempted to smash another so we are left with a nice even pair, but I resist cos I know this would be nuts! 😂
I actually have a lot of the rules already mentioned on this thread, as well as many more for pretty much everything I do. I am autistic and I love by rules and doing things a certain way so I’m probably quite extreme compared with most people on this thread

Untrained · 17/05/2021 17:05

I agree with some of these rules! Also I don't eat the edges of things, eg the crust pieces of bread, the ends of sausages etc. Another rule is I have to leave the house tidy when I go out just in case I don't come back for some reason (accident, death!) and someone else has to come in and sort it all out - I don't want them thinking I was a slob !

ilovepixie · 17/05/2021 17:07

You lot are bonkers 😂😂

52andblue · 17/05/2021 17:07

Hmmm.
some of mine make sense to me: can't sit with my back to a door (dodgy childhood). cover mirrors in bedroom at night re nightmares.
no shoes on table and clean clothes / cleaning cloths is all just hygiene

I like the washing ones ;)

Mydogmylife · 17/05/2021 17:08

@kiksta

TV / radio volume must be on an even number or ending in 5 🤷🏽‍♀️
Ye gods this is me!!!! DH thinks I'm completely loopy!
NeverDropYourMoonCup · 17/05/2021 17:09

@kiksta

I also don't finish a cup of tea. No idea why. Any other drink will be finished but a cuppa, I have to leave a drop in the bottom
That makes perfect sense. I've been caught out by teabags tearing before now.
bonbonours · 17/05/2021 17:10

My dh has a few of these. The volume one drives me mad in the car. I'll adjust the volume so that it's comfortable to listen to, and he'll change it so it's an even number. But then it's a bit too quiet, or a bit too loud!! Sometimes 9 or 11 is the perfect volume!!

I don't think I have any such rules....am I weird or are all of you?!
