What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

Volume has to be on an even number or divisible by 5.

Socks have to be paired and clothes have to be put away the right way (oh will put them inside out 😳)

I don’t drink unfiltered tap water in my own house, even the cats get the filtered stuff. Nothing cold in a mug that is beyond grim.

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/05/2021 17:46

I don't have any - I thought hard and I don't.

Oh dear - i must be a right wierdo and uninvitable to many homes, although I do abide by any rules I know about, just maybe not the 'unsaid' ones.

momtoboys · 18/05/2021 17:49

I would never let me sons wear sleeveless shirts and god forbid a tank top. The mere thought of it makes me cringe. LOL

PussGirl · 18/05/2021 17:51

No dirty crockery on the draining board - mum does this & it drives me spare

Mmpip · 18/05/2021 17:51

Black underwear only.....

Ha ha I am the opposite way round. I am quite happy to leave stuff to drip dry - life is too short to dry dishes.

But my mum is the opposite and everything has to be washed up and dried right away. It doesn't make for very relaxing meals as you know you have to get up and wash/dry up the second you've finished.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 18/05/2021 17:56

Oh I've just noticed you said *dirty" crockery. I'm with you on that. But clean washed up crockery is fine Grin

ha ha yes - dirty - ugh!
Middersweekly · 18/05/2021 17:58

I only drink my tea out of certain mugs (nice big Kath Kidston ones). The kids use the other pleb eclectic ones Grin
Ditto with cutlery. I have 3 different types. Kids get the ikea jobbys. I can’t eat with these as they feel too flimsy. I use the more heavy viners. I have an even heavier set also which I don’t use as these are too heavy.

doubleshotespresso · 18/05/2021 18:00

I cannot drink tea unless it's been made in a pot.

KatChocolate · 18/05/2021 18:03

The not finishing the tea off and always leaving a bit in the bottom of the cup, yes, me too! Sorry can’t remember who posted and who replied to that post about tea leaves.

Rather than it stemming from tea leaves remaining I think mine stems from when I used to have sugar and the person who made it not stirring the tea thoroughly enough, therefore leaving a sludge of sugar for the final mouthful. That’s why I think I still now always leave a mouthful of tea.

Maisymoomoo22 · 18/05/2021 18:05

I’m with you on not drying dishes Loopy they’ll air dry. After all you wouldn’t water the garden in the rain.
All tins must be upside down in my cupboards to avoid all that gloopy stuff that clings to the bottom and is hard to get out. When they are turned the right way up for opening it’s at the top!
I pull two socks from the drawer and whatever colour they are I have to wear them regardless of if one is pink and the other is black.

Mindfullness · 18/05/2021 18:08

I will never wear my work clothes anywhere bit work

HelloCanYouHearMe · 18/05/2021 18:15

Mugs on the outside can be any colour or pattern they want, but on the inside they have to be white

All hot drinks in mugs with coloured/patterned insides taste wrong

ilovesushi · 18/05/2021 18:18

Don't talk during exciting/ dramatic/ emotional parts of TV shows. The DC are well trained and we have quick, efficient conversations in the down moments. DH is oblivious and talks at length over key plot points while we all seethe and struggle to hear. Obviously we can't say anything there and then as we would be breaking our own rule.

Nearly47 · 18/05/2021 18:29

The mug of water thing. Have special mugs I will drink my coffee or tea from.
Only eat with heavy cutlery not the flimsy ones. Must read before bed.
No flipped slippers or shoes ( top down) allowed in the house as brings bad luck.
Wash hands whenever touch cooking ingredientes. Even salt. Wash hands constantly when cooking.

Nearly47 · 18/05/2021 18:34

I think other are the weird ones on this but I don't eat standing up. Must sit down. Even for an ice-cream cone.

wellstopdoingitthen · 18/05/2021 18:37

No new shoes on the table
No milk bottles on the table (yes we still have a milkman)
No packets of bread on the table.

All inherited from my mother. She had loads more including not eating food in the street, including ice cream.

wellstopdoingitthen · 18/05/2021 18:39

@moynomore

Do people actually put shoes on tables? Like, tables that are eaten at?
I my case it's new shoes just purchased, in the box.
AlfonsoTheTerrible · 18/05/2021 18:43

I'm another one who always leaves a sip or two at the bottom of a cup of tea or coffee. Glad to know that I'm not alone in this!

Bertiebiscuit · 18/05/2021 18:49

Can't go near men with beards - so unhygienic and grubby - too lazy to shave - I bet they don't wash their hands either

lilywillywoo · 18/05/2021 18:51

@kiksta

I also don't finish a cup of tea. No idea why. Any other drink will be finished but a cuppa, I have to leave a drop in the bottom
Me too. DH always moaning about this. Pretty sure it stems from childhood with loose tea. Also can't drink tea out of a glass cup / mug, or styrofoam/ plastic.
lilywillywoo · 18/05/2021 18:54

@Phyllidakettle

Tv always has to be on BBC1 before it’s switched off last thing at night.
Our tv box thing won't switch on the next day (why? Who knows) if it's not left on BBC1 or 2 before it's switched off at night.
rosegoldwatcher · 18/05/2021 18:57

Just remembered another -

I cannot cook in footwear, not even slippers.

190190tnt · 18/05/2021 18:59

I hate sitting at a table in the middle of a restaurant or cafe, table has to be by wall or window
