What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

In a public toilet I always take the first few pieces off the toilet roll and discard it. Not a clue

@KurtWilde I do this! Because what if the person who was in before had dirty hands and touched the end??

33goingon64 · 17/05/2021 20:46

I'm very fussy about how I have a cup of tea and get very worried if someone else makes it (DH can just about do it as I like). Washing up and dishwasher stacking have to be done in a certain order. I don't like anyone touching my feet or my nose. Other than that I'm fairly normal...

KurtWilde · 17/05/2021 20:47

Tara glad it's not just me! Yeah I suppose that was my initial reasoning when I first started, now it's habit Grin

JudgeJ · 17/05/2021 20:48

@dementedma

How do some of you get through the day with all these rules? The stress must be immense. I can’t think of any….
This thread certainly explains the amount of anxiety that people experience in their lives.
queenmeadhbh · 17/05/2021 20:48

@SwimBaby

I couldn’t eat a takeaway Monday to Thursday. I have to put my make up on before blow drying my hair.
Doesn't your make-up melt?
JudgeJ · 17/05/2021 20:51

@MrsMime

Cold puddings must only be eaten with a tea spoon and hot puddings only with a dessert spoon.
I inherited from my mother fruit spoons, an in between size which are great for cold puddings.

I love this thread. Thank you, everyone!

I have to hang out my washing in a certain way. But it can't be that odd as my sister does it too, as well as several friends. The wife of a male friend came home and looked at his efforts at the washing line and asked if the children had done the hanging out.

Pinkdohnut · 17/05/2021 21:01

When I close the curtains one must slightly the over lap the other, the over lap must be going the same way I'm looking so if I'm sat on my sofa, the window is on my right therefore the right curtain must over lap the left.... bedroom window is on my left so the left curtain over laps the right, drives my other half mad.

I also hate the cat food spoon near other dirty dishes even if it's washed off before being put with other dishes

JustAddCoffee91 · 17/05/2021 21:02

I sniff everything!!
Clothes before I put them on, food before I eat it, if my washing out of the machine doesn't smell nice enough it goes back in until it smells strong enough of niceness!
If my kids take off their socks they have to go in the wash and a clean pair goes back on, same goes with clothes if it comes off it gets washed and that could be up to 5 times a day ... don't worry they are only 1&2 so I haven't got stripping adults/teens running about 😅

OlivesTree · 17/05/2021 21:03
@OlivesTree I told my DH only this afternoon not to put the bag containing DS’ new shoes on the kitchen table! Like you, it is more to honour my late Mum, who was very superstitious, than because I believe it myself, and I think her Mum taught it to her. Same effect anyway, I can’t let it happen!
I’m so pleased to hear I’m not the only one. I have wondered as I’ve never heard anyone apart from my family (all driven by my Nan) follow this rule.

Ginlovingmumof4 · 17/05/2021 21:04

@Mellonsprite

The washing must be hung out with matching pegs, and pegs the same colour of the item, or a colour that contrast nicely. So odd pegs on 1 item or a pink T-shirt with red pegs would be a complete no-no.
Absolutely! Also nicest pegs for newest clothes - matching of course! Grin
Blackopal · 17/05/2021 21:05

When taking spider out, you must whisper softly 'good luck'. Softly so it doesn't follow your voice back to you, but it must be said or the spider will come back untill wished well.

Pinkdohnut · 17/05/2021 21:05

Oh yeah & I always eat the bottom half of a sandwich/ toast first, never ever start with the top of the bread.....ever

Ahhh are you me?? I do this. We don't have enough black or white pegs tho.

Also agree about cold drink from a mug, nonono. I also only use black Bic Crystal pens but that's because all others are crap. The black is bc I used to be a teacher and you need black for exams.

LolaSmiles · 17/05/2021 21:07

My mother has a rule about new shoes on tables. I thought it was an unusual quirk until this thread.

I hate shoes indoors on any carpeted surface. Whilst I choose not to wear shoes indoors, it doesn't annoy me if people keep shoes on where we have hard flooring, but it pisses me off when they go into carpeted rooms. I'm thinking here especially about visiting relatives who have marked carpets but can't see that trudging around in their outdoor shoes makes their carpets disgusting.

Blackopal · 17/05/2021 21:08

pinkdohnut out of interest what would happen if you had the bottom slice of toast in your hand and then were interrupted? If you had put it back on the plate and didn't know which was bottom slice, would you be ok or have to remake it?

clary · 17/05/2021 21:08

I like my volume on a prime number tho.

Tricky in one car where 23 is too quiet but 29 is way too loud. The other car is easier as 7 is spot on.

Anewchapter · 17/05/2021 21:09

When peeling carrots with a vegetable peeler I can only end on an even number of swipes, even if it means going over an area that’s already peeled.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 17/05/2021 21:09

@Slippy78

My god you all need some serious help.
I do this with Skittles, but also there is an order for the colours too. Green first, then yellow, then red, purple orange. When I was younger red was last but now I seem to prefer orange
overnightangel · 17/05/2021 21:09

Volume (tv, radio etc) when turned up has to go to an even number, when turned down it has to go to an odd number

Wrenna · 17/05/2021 21:09

The drawers that can be closed have to be closed in the bedroom before I can sleep. I have a chest of drawers with two drawers that have something stuck in them and they can’t close but that doesn’t bother me.

Sheets can’t be wrinkly at my head before I get into bed.

Kokapetl · 17/05/2021 21:09

I prefer to wear certain colours on certain days of the week. Monday is black, Tuesday blue, Wednesday red, Thursday brown or beige, Friday white and Sunday yellow. Saturday is free choice!

Also when the kids were in colourful cloth nappies, these had to go on the line in a pattern.
