To think this is just cruel?

DS is 11 and attends secondary school in Lancashire. He was so relieved that mask wearing in school was ending and he could actually hear what was being said again (he has glue ear). He’s also been getting spots on his chin and round his mouth which I think is exacerbated by wearing a mask for hours on end (we are treating it). This morning, after school started, we received an email to say that Lancashire County Council have issued a directive that all children in Lancashire must continue to wear masks in school for at least a further 5 weeks. That’s nearly the end of term!

Children have to do a lateral flow test twice a week and cases aren’t even high here. I know they are in Bolton and Blackburn but they’re not somewhere anyone I know in north Lancashire would feel the need to go right now!

AIBU to think that this is so cruel to children who have already been in enhanced restrictions for longer than almost everyone else in the country, especially with less than no notice?

Thanks Worra - every day's a school day for me!

OP as the teacher said upthread of course they can manage accommodations for individual students. They do it day in, day out, in all sorts of different ways. Asking that they wear a visor when teaching DS should be no problem, I'm amazed he or you haven't done so already.

Op, nothing to do with the masks, but have you tried the olive oil drops for your DS glue ear? My DS had to go for his ears syringed regularly due to glue ear and a tiny ear canal, and his consultant told us to use olive oil drops once a week to keep it soft and it has made a big difference to him.
