For me it is the habit of drinking out of bottles. Everywhere you go people are swigging out of bottles. Had a bank appointment and even Manager was drinking out of a bottle. Agh I must be getting old. Give me a glass any time.

@WaterOffADucksCrack

aks instead of ask. I believe this was used as a standard form of ask. But by the 16th (if I remember rightly) century, ask was predominantly used. However aks was still used by less educated people, including black slaves. It is still used widely amongst black people today. It's something I looked up a while ago as we've always used aks as a black working class family.
That's actually quite interesting. Apologies for any offence caused.
Twattergy · 19/05/2021 18:20

Use of 'super excited' esp in a work setting.

josbd · 19/05/2021 18:33

Most of these heinous, and stupid pieces of crap have arrived from the US. That is where "super" has emerged from... Everything is "super": super hard; super warm; super happy. Super fucking annoying!! Almost as awful as "awesome"` EVERY bloody thing was awesome, except, presumably the second coming of christ. Bloody annoying!!

Amdone123 · 19/05/2021 18:53

You're right, pp. They have all originated from America ; stupid proms, graduation ceremonies for 5 year olds. Language like 'grounded, can I get....?
I can't think of anymore because I'm tired. But they're out there.

Butterflyfox · 19/05/2021 18:59

Probably a generational thing but. People who have private conversations in public on their Facebook page. Happy birthday to my darling wife, I love you so much... Presumably you live together. Why not say that directly her her?!???

terrimom · 19/05/2021 19:17

@Amdone123
I'm American, in America and I apologize for all of our annoying, twit brained, cringy things that are now traveling the globe annoying citizens worldwide. As if it wasn't bad enough when all the things people have mentioned here were just annoying the rest of us Americans, to think that these idiotic trends and expressions are going global is just sad. But I love hearing the point of view on MN!

SHONNYSMUMMY · 19/05/2021 19:23

'ect'

Nope. Its Et Cetera. Etc. Always has been, always will be.

Lulola · 19/05/2021 19:35

Men wearing leggings under shorts. It makes me literally ill.

I don’t get this one. The leggings are for warmth the shorts are to hide their bits.

phoenixrosehere · 19/05/2021 19:36

Foods floating in sauces. If you need that much sauce, your food is likely tasteless.

The constant moaning about American culture from a country’s whose history is mainly colonising most of the planet while
ignoring the fact that many American customs come from the people who immigrated from the U.K. and European countries.

disconnected101 · 19/05/2021 19:49

people who make 'mmm' 'yumm' noises WHILST they eat. Bleurgh.

Seriously1996 · 19/05/2021 20:01

NoMLMbots · 19/05/2021 20:04

Probably don't talk much in real life and it shows others that they have the perfect marriage/perfect couple blah blah etc etc

A few months later .... separation

Ddot · 19/05/2021 20:08

Trousers that hang so low on boys bottoms WHY!
Young girls that look like blow up dolls WHY!

Happycat74 · 19/05/2021 21:04

'Fur baby' and 'pop of colour' aaarrggh, makes me cringe!!

millievanille · 19/05/2021 21:28

People on social media who want to tell everyone about a funny conversation they've had so they write it out like a play

freakyfridays · 19/05/2021 21:33

Trousers that hang so low on boys bottoms WHY!

I am more puzzled than annoyed by those. Not why, but HOW?!

If I put my trousers or jeans that low, they end up around my ankle in less than 10 seconds. What's the secret?!

(I don't want to wear them that way, I am just curious)

lazyarse123 · 19/05/2021 21:47

"Happy heavenly birthday" so and so would have been 150. No they wouldn't because they're dead.
Such attention seeking bollocks and the wishing spouses and children happy birthday that you see and speak to every day. All on fb.

JellyBabiesFan · 19/05/2021 21:48

Literally this
Literally that
Litterally in every bloody sentence

FUCK
OFF

Lickedmylollyandneversaidsorry · 19/05/2021 21:53

@nancywhitehead

People will probably think I'm weird/ unreasonable with this but...

Drivers who will stop for a pedestrian waiting to cross the road and wave them across when it is not their right of way (e.g. not on a crossing). I'm talking particularly about when the road is not particularly busy and they are the only car coming with nothing behind them.

As a pedestrian it winds me up because I would really not have minded waiting the extra second until the car has gone past! And when they've stopped for me I have to do an awkward run-walk so as not to take too much time crossing and inconvenience them.

Honestly, please just drive on and I'll cross when it's clear!

Haha this happens to me alot on the school run and drives me crazy....especially when they drive up the road at a fairly slow pace but like they have no intention stopping, then stop right at the last minute and let you go. I know they mean well but just keep driving and save us all the time and effort!
LemonSherbetFancies · 19/05/2021 22:09
  1. People not finishing their sentences
  2. The word 'totes'
  3. The hashtag #truestory . A 50 something woman on my FB uses that and above sayings all the time. It's vomit inducing.
  4. Grown women showing off their birthday presents on FB
  5. People using the word 'factoid'
  6. Cult followings of fitness instructors. I know people at my local gym who are like this with a certain instructor and it's so gross how they behave towards her. Really embarrassing.
  7. Over dramatic sneezing
  8. Loud yawning
  9. Slow walkers/people who get in the way
10. People who use terms of endearment on everyone. 11. People who force hugs on others as they are 'So tactile Hmm

Seconded. For that very reason unless I am at a crossing I will never stand by a road waiting to cross for fear of somebody stopping for me. I always keep walking whilst stealthily looking both ways down the road for a gap.
