I feel lucky that I have managed to purchase my dream house. However, 2 years in of paying, I am dreading another 13 years of this! I miss our previous luxuries. Does it end? does it get better??

Only 13! I'm on year 2 and have another 33 years left. Count yourself lucky!

worriedandannoyed · 16/05/2021 15:53

What did you used to pay before a mortgage, rent? You're lucky to only have 13 years left, many have a 30 year morty these days. We all miss luxuries don't we??

Hankunamatata · 16/05/2021 15:53

You only have a 15 year mortgage 😳

HollowTalk · 16/05/2021 15:53

Surely it would cost you more to rent somewhere similar? Your mortgage term seems short - was it really 15 years in total?

Hankunamatata · 16/05/2021 15:54

Change the term to 30 years and have some luxuries

HandlebarLadyTash · 16/05/2021 15:56

No, as soon as it ends you realise your pension is shit & any extra money you though you had goes into thatDaffodil

scammedmum29 · 16/05/2021 15:56

Would love to only have 13 years left on my mortgage

UhtredRagnarson · 16/05/2021 15:56

Are your diamond shoes also too tight?

PegPeople · 16/05/2021 15:57

You've got to be joking... Surely no one would be deliberately so blind to how privileged this makes them sound?

15 years for a mortgage is rediculously short but of course you already knew that before starting the thread. Hmm

UhtredRagnarson · 16/05/2021 15:57

How much were you paying for accommodating before you got your mortgage? Confused

Dancingbugbadge · 16/05/2021 15:57

Then do what most people do and have a mortgage that lasts between 25-35 years... surely you paid rent before so are used to paying something each month. No sympathy here I’m afraid!

BritWifeinUSA · 16/05/2021 15:57

Owning your home is a luxury. If you don’t like paying for it, stop and see how much you miss that luxury when it’s taken away from you.

Northernlurker · 16/05/2021 15:57

Dream house and15 years on your mortgage? Grow up and deal with your good fortune. Plenty of people can't afford a mortgage ever.

Asia98 · 16/05/2021 15:57

I am an expat living abroad. So rent with the currency here was 1500. But now I am paying 4200. Because interest levels are sky high here banks don't give above 20 years with 15 being most common.

We used to be able to do loads, go out for meals, order in have a cleaner come in etc and right now I have had to cut out on loads. Right now I want to do a pergola in garden yet its going to take a few months to raise the money! Before the mortgage we wouldnt have to think twice to get something done. We pay the mortgage, bills, petrol, food and thats about it. Once every 2 months we are able to buy something extra

What is this question? Where did you live before you had to pay for a home?

scaredsadandstuck · 16/05/2021 15:58

I'm confused Confused

It ends in 13 years?! It's gets better if you get a pay rise or increase your income in some other way.

Asia98 · 16/05/2021 15:59

We (DH and I) rented before. But rent was 1500 and I am paying nearly triple that now which is why we have had to cut most things out

BendingSpoons · 16/05/2021 16:01

Did you have to take a 15yr mortgage due to age? Otherwise you could extend the term. How much more is it than rent? Having a dream home should hopefully be something compensation for loss of luxuries. If it really isn't, maybe you need to downsize at some point.

In the country we live in we dont have mortgages above 20 years and even then the bank rarely gives 20 years as the country isnt stable financially and foreign rates are just getting higher and higher.

What a ridiculous thread.
Yes it ends... when it ends.

Passthecake30 · 16/05/2021 16:03

Owch that does sound harsh then. Will your income increase any time soon? Can you cut any bills to allow for additional extras?

nimbuscloud · 16/05/2021 16:04

So you are paying £4200 per month for your mortgage instead of the £1500 per month you were paying in rent?

Planty13 · 16/05/2021 16:04

OP this is very normal. It will end in, um, 13 years in your case....

Pottedpalm · 16/05/2021 16:04

You are paying £4.5 k a month?
