I have turned into one of those people who like going a drive

Is there any hope for me?

I dont really want to go out for dinner, its usually overpriced and not that great. I dont want to go to the pub, alcohol doesn't agree with me now. Shopping is just shit now.

So i like to go a drive. And maybe top the excitement off with a nice walk.

Anyone similar?

Pre covid I used to hate driving but now I love it Grin. I often wonder when cars go autonomous - what will a lot of people do for enjoyment?

Namechangedforthistoday · 14/05/2021 23:01

I’m another person who likes going for a drive. Discovered some fantastic places and cafes over the years on my jaunts

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/05/2021 23:03

Sometimes if it’s a nice day I enjoy going a strange and new way home from work, maybe even stopping somewhere for a coffee. Adds an hour on to my journey and my dp thinks I am insane. I always know I am feeling happy and positive if I feel like a drive about and discovering new places. When I am anxious or low I want to pelt it home. Strange isn’t it

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/05/2021 23:04

I’m late twenties and have always been like this! It’s not an age thing surely !

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/05/2021 23:05

Oh i have loved this for years. My favourite game is "i wonder where that road goes" bonus points for only using a road map or no map, minus points for using sat nav or digital tools.

For me it is the ability to enjoy the view, have the conscious part of my brain happily busy with the driving. At the end of the drive my brain has always solved whatever is on it and lets my conscious mind catch up. Awfully cathartic.

I've just got back from going for a drive Grin

Just had to get out of the house, away from DC and DH doing my head in. Had a lovely time listening to Magic on the radio and cruising around.

wtheck · 14/05/2021 23:06

Yes.

Or as my grandad used to call it 'a ride in the country'.

LadyWhistledownsQuill · 14/05/2021 23:06

In pre-COVID times I used to hate driving. Now it's become borderline enjoyable compared to the rest of the monotony. Only by comparison though.

We went a lovely drive today Grin

I enjoy a walk and it has been important when wfh for setting boundaries, especially mental ones. Before the pandemic I rarely wfh because I did not want work and the rest of life to merge and become all encompassing in my thought. I have still not exhausted all possible places to visit in my local area.

Don't have a car.

LagneyandCasey · 16/05/2021 09:59

Dh and I love a drive to the coast for a car picnic. We are officially old.

OhWhyNot · 16/05/2021 10:07

I love going for a drive and a walk

I absolutely love driving at night alone it’s like being in my own personal moving shed. Last week it was through central London it was lovely seeing the sights

I don’t go for a walk at night I would like to but not that brave (I drive out into quiet countryish lanes)

BonnieDundee · 16/05/2021 15:02

Thanks @ssd it was lovely Smile and managed to stay dry

toto23 · 16/05/2021 18:58

I always love a wee drive.

Once I took the car out with the intention of going to the supermarket, I ended up 50 miles from home .

LEMtheoriginal · 16/05/2021 19:08

We love a road trip, however this usually results in a ridiculous long journey and a motorbike purchase

StoneofDestiny · 16/05/2021 19:48

I always go for drives - often find new places but always end up at a nice cafe somewhere.

PetuniaPot · 16/05/2021 19:50

Yes! It's so funny. I like sitting out on the patio too with my drink. I'm living the 1970s dream!

PetuniaPot · 16/05/2021 19:55

What a year.

I have found my people

Love a drive - up to the Ponderosa near Llangollen, coffee and then home. Lid off all the way. Clears my head, gives my car a stretch of the legs and makes me smile. Or up early and through Snowdonia to Barmouth. Perfect escape. Enjoy 😊

littlepattilou · 16/05/2021 20:09

@ssd YANBU. I (and DH) LOVE going for a drive, and we love going for walks. We are fortunate enough to love near woodlands and a river and the canal, so have lots of lovely places to walk around. Was a GODSEND during the lockdowns!

Oooooh, me and DH go there around 3 or 4 times a year. (To the top of the Horseshoe Pass, where the Ponderosa is.) Although it's only doing takeaway food and drink at the moment, and the shop is shut. (The Shop In The Clouds.) The owner has another shop in Llangollen though. I think it's called The Shop Around The Corner.

Although..... this may change from tomorrow!!! The shop and restaurant may be open. I will ring them tomorrow to check!!!

We ALSO love to drive through Snowdonia, and LOVE Barmouth, and Fairbourne, and Harlech, and all that West Wales coast. Being quite close-ish to the Welsh border, we LOVE going for drives in West (and mid) Wales. We may bump into each other one day. Grin
