Really fed up with my lack of control over food

I weigh more now than I did in my 3rd trimester. I just constantly eat. I do eat healthily but then I binge. Today for example I ate very healthy. I had my dinner then I ate crisps, chocolates abs whole packet of biscuits. I wasn’t hungry at all just bored. I keep sabotaging myself. What can I do?

I’ve just signed up to weight watchers online as I have the same problem.

Hoping it works. Other than that-keep busy. I find I eat less if I’m doing housework/out of the house.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 13/05/2021 20:13

I suffer with binge eating disorder.im now on day 23 without a binge.
Distraction, distraction, distraction. Easier said than done I know, but the more you break the pattern of boredom and eating the easier it will become.
Also try reading brain over binge by Kathryn Hansen. I found it really helpful.

MrsD0147 · 13/05/2021 20:27

No useful advice but just an acknowledgment that I am exactly the same Sad heaviest I’ve ever been in my life and seem to be getting bigger by the day. Bought clothes when my little boy was born last May and even they don’t fit now but feel trapped in a cycle of being really upset about it to binging and repeat Sad

Stirmecrazy · 13/05/2021 20:38

I am the same, great self control during the day then eat my body weight in snacks on the evening. Like you it’s boredom. So what I try to do is keep busy . I have been going to an outdoor Bootcamp, running and food shopping in evenings to shorten the time I can snack and that is helping

Hesma · 13/05/2021 20:44

Don’t buy it... if it’s not in the house you can’t eat it! That’s the only thing that works for me. Good luck OP 😃

rainbowfairydust · 13/05/2021 20:44

I'm the same and the only time I can be accountable for my actions of eating things I shouldn't, is when I exercise! It's such an effort and sometimes I hate it, so when I exercise it really makes me think about what I'm putting in my mouth! I do not want to be doing extra time on the treadmill to just blow it by eating stuff I don't really need!

Judith0000 · 13/05/2021 20:48

I find I binge more when I am tired, so when I feel the urge to binge, I have a nap or a shower to wake me up and that really helps. Smile

FrankButchersDickieBow · 13/05/2021 20:53

Brush your teeth and use corsodyl mouthwash. It won't be pleasurable to eat anything for about 3 hours after that.

cantbeforeal · 13/05/2021 20:53

I'm the same OP I really don't know how to stop it though Sad

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 13/05/2021 20:56

I'm the same.

  1. Dont buy it
  2. But LOADS of fruit and other things to snack on - celery sticks, carrots, cherry tomatoes
  3. Every time you feel the urge to snack drink a glass of water or mug of peppermint tea
  4. Delay don't deny. Make yourself wait 1 hour.
  5. 5:2 diet.
Titterofwit · 13/05/2021 21:07

I a just the same OP. I can be 'good' as long as I dont give in to eating. I can do a 16 hour fast easily but once I start eating all bets are off. I like you can eat steadily though crisps, chocolate, biscuits (or cheese ,cold meat , hummus, boiled eggs -and then go on to the naughtier stuff).
I seem to have a level of food that I must reach. I dont stuff myself until Im sick or anything near that. But I will continue to snack until Im done. I have never worked out how 'done' is achieved. Sometimes I will go back to the kitchen several times before Im satisfied and others I just need a 2 finger kit kat.
I will eat the cheap easter egg chocolate if thats all thats in the house. Or the 30p bars I buy for cooking. Its chocolate and thats all that matters at that time. Another time its all savoury stuff.
I annoy myself but cant seem to do anything about it. Last year I gave up chocolate and wine for a month and it made no difference. I expect I made up for the calories in other ways .
Watching with interest

Nopenopenopenooooo · 13/05/2021 21:22

I also recommend Kathryn Hansen. I’m still very overweight but her book helped me reframe how i saw urges to eat. I’m losing about half a pound a week without changing very much, no stress, no calorie counting etc.

im excatly the same so stopped buying it, if i dont have it in the house i dont eat it
and i fancy something, i need to make the effort to go and get it, and usually i dont bother cos i cant be arsed going out for it

Justcashnosweets · 13/05/2021 21:30

Same here. I'm really overweight, with high cholesterol so have been trying to stick to a low fat diet. I've been doing ok, and have lost a few pounds, but i have no self control once i give in to the urge to snack. Plus I'm crap at getting more fruit and veg into my diet. Blush

Golfbuggy76 · 13/05/2021 21:35

I don't buy chocolate/biscuits because I know if they were in the house I would just eat them! I buy low calorie snacks such as chocolate rice cakes. I also eat my dinner fairly early (with my toddler) and then as he is in the bath I brush my teeth which does usually mean I don't eat any snacks after he's in bed!

doadeer · 13/05/2021 21:37

Just don't buy it.

When I wanted to lose weight after my son, I asked DH if he bought rubbish just to hide it and have it when I wasn't around, it was the only way for me. I do think it's just a lot of habit, I used to have a wine in the bath and I haven't drank in 4 months and I stop thinking about it now... Just took a while.

Brigante9 · 13/05/2021 21:41

I honestly think you have to be in the right headspace or it’s just pointless. At one point, I lost 8 stones, I was so in the zone, but I was mad busy, I’d walk the dogs in the woods for ages as soon as I got home, I had already swum 50 lengths or played ‘extreme’ badminton (played someone better than me who made me leap round like a lunatic!) I’d ride as often as possible, you definitely don’t just sit there!

Sadly, I had a very serious accident and can’t do much now and the weight has piled back on, but I’m currently in the zone re food. Writing down absolutely everything that passes your lips is really helpful, ime.

Brush your teeth and use corsodyl mouthwash. It won't be pleasurable to eat anything for about 3 hours after that.

Good tip, actually, really works.

Cerealtoast2 · 13/05/2021 21:48

Exactly the same problem. Healthy breakfast, lunch and snacks then after dinner and kids in bed and I binge!

Justsocross · 13/05/2021 21:49

Going to try the mouthwash tip as I am exactly the same !!! Fingers crossed as I seriously need to change my habits

CCSS15 · 13/05/2021 21:55

I was going to say teeth cleaning too or menthol type sweets / mints. Puts me off eating anything else

Siameasy · 13/05/2021 21:56

Try intermittent fasting. Google the diet doctor, Dr Jason Fung. Low carb is also good for killing sugar cravings. I only eat 85% dark chocolate now having weaned myself off of the red Lindt

Siameasy · 13/05/2021 22:04

PS
I never EVER eat breakfast and haven’t for years. Breakfast triggers hunger and opens the floodgates. If you read Dr Fung’s The Obesity Code he explains how and why we are all getting fat.
I also try to have my last meal at 630pm and after that in our house “kitchens closed” to both adults and kids because eating late and constant snacking is one of the key reasons for weight gain.
Fung says “hunger isn’t an emergency”. You don’t have to answer the call. Even in my childhood (70s/80s) constant eating was simply not allowed.

Redwinestillfine · 13/05/2021 22:17

If you don't have it in, you can't eat it. Don't buy unhealthy stuff. You can eat as much of the healthy stuff as you like. If you have loads in with bin it or maybe a foodbank donation is in order if you have unopened treats you need to get out of the house?

Flev · 13/05/2021 22:26

Could you try doing some sort of craft so your hands are occupied? I found crochet helped me as I didn't want to stop to snack.
