Why don’t you RTFT?

Yes I know this is a goady thread and I’m expecting a flaming but genuinely why? MN have made it easy for us to see all the OP’s comments but why do some people still insist on commenting without reading all the responses?

Then when they realise they’ve been an arse to the OP why don’t people apologise, some do most don’t.

Yes yes again I know I’m being unreasonable, it’s an anonymous forum and people love bashing others behind the safety of their computers (I myself have NC for this! Blush )

OP posts:

I have thought this on the BOF Anglesey thread.

Aqua55 · 12/05/2021 14:20

TL;DR

@poorbuthappy yes, this is a particularly pertinent subject today as there is some very sad news about a death on that thread.

In amongst all the condolences there are several people posting suggestions in reply to the original post.

MN have kindly posted to say that the OP would probably be amused that people haven't bothered to read the thread, but it ought to make people stop and think. it won't

I notice peoples reading comprehension is poor.

They seem to skip over information in the OP.

Hilda40 · 12/05/2021 14:24

How old are the DC?

poorbuthappy · 12/05/2021 14:24

I did think this about the BOF Anglesey trip thread.

bishbashbosh99 · 12/05/2021 14:27

Not really bothered about anyone else's opinions, just my own

Chocolatebiscuitcollection · 12/05/2021 14:28

@Homemadearmy

Some people just want to have their say. I always equate not reading the thread and commenting as speaking without listening.
^ this.
MoreAloneTime · 12/05/2021 14:34

Their opinions are far too important for them to do something as trivial as read the OPs posts.

Have you cancelled the cheque?

@CombatBarbie

On the app you can't get it to show just Ops posts but they are in a different colour. I generally do read all the OP posts though.... Guess some people just get trigger happy and become ninja keyboard warriors
Yes you can. Use the filter button at the top.
lifeissweet · 12/05/2021 14:40

I always read RTFT as 'read the fucking thread', which makes 'please RTFT' comments a little more exasperated in my mind.

My favourite was the joke one with the vaccination/vacation meme on it when people were piling in 5 pages later still talking about body autonomy and consent.

It really does feel like people have a need to post an opinion without listening to anyone else at all sometimes.

Beautiful3 · 12/05/2021 15:08

After reading the first 3/4 pages, I do believe anymore drip feeds are genuinely annoying. Everything can be explained in the first few pages.

CarmenElectric2 · 12/05/2021 15:15

I’m the OP.....MN blocked my account with no explanation! They clearly think I’m a troll. Looool

I wasn’t aware the see all function wasn’t visible on the app.

Anyway thanks for all the replies. I was genuinely curious. Bye!

ItsCokeFFS · 12/05/2021 15:42

Sorry, just to be clear, I didn't mean to imply that MN have said it ought to make people stop and think.

That's purely my opinion.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 12/05/2021 15:59

Not everyone has time to read hundreds of responses but might feel they have some useful advice.
If reading the full thread is a condition of posting, then you will lose input from people who have busy jobs and/or demanding home lives.
I do however find it hard to understand why people respond to the thread title without even reading the OP.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/05/2021 16:01

Well I didn't even know there was an app. But it sounds shit, so I can't understand why people would use it instead of just looking at the mobile version of whatever web browser they use (Chrome etc).

I at least look at all the OPs posts but don't even bother saying anything if there's already been 784 posts of the 'cancel the cheque' variety as the OP will have got the message by then and saying the same thing as others have done hundreds of times doesn't add anything to the discussion.

An0n0n0n · 12/05/2021 16:10

Its reasonable to assume OP has put what they feel is relevant infornation in the original post.

The full thread is often repetitive or arguing between posters.

Its not a dialogue, its a Q & A. Poster asks question, poster gets answer.
