Not lost anything in 2 weeks, 800 calories

Nahna · 11/05/2021 21:37

Hi everyone!
I've been doing 800 calories 5 days a week, with 2 rest days (1800 calories) for 1 month now. I'm exercising 40 mins a day 7 days a week. I'm very overweight, starting weight was 17 stone. In 2 weeks I lost 1 stone but in the last 2 weeks I've not lost even 1 pound! I religiously weigh and calorie count everything so I am absolutely certain I'm not exceeding 800 calories 5 days a week. Will I continue to lose weight? I just feel so despondent and shocked that in 2 weeks on so few calories, that I've not lost anything at all when I'm so fat. I eat at normal times, never later than 8pm. Only drink water. Help!

YABU - You should have lost weight
YANBU - Don't panic, this is normal, stick at it and you will lose weight

Thanks!

I've had bariatric surgery, so can't eat as much as 800 cals a day yet. I stalled in week 3 and 4, then started losing again. It's perfectly normal.

fat13 · 12/05/2021 07:21

I’ve lost four stone on an 800 a day weight loss plan. I still want to lose three. I think I lost a stone and a half the first month (was 17 stone as well.)

I know it’s a medical diet but I wonder if the 1800 calories might be the problem?

araiwa · 12/05/2021 07:22

It's tough decision- talk to the medical professionals who are overseeing your process or listen to some of the absolute horseshit on this thread from people who haven't a clue

PurpleDaisies · 12/05/2021 07:27

@Morgan12

Did a doctor really tell you to do this? This is absolutely mental! You will completely fuck your metabolism. Your body won't have a clue what to do right now. Its clinging onto they calories because its starving. They will drop off soon enough though if you stick at it.

Do you have tiktok? If so please follow Dan Wheeler.

Ditch your doctor and follow some random person on TikTok. What fantastic advice. Hmm
Dizzybrunette445 · 12/05/2021 07:30

Hi lovely, cut out meat and dairy and it'll drop off you so much faster. Plant based diet is the way to go 🤞

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/05/2021 07:30

Your body doesn't cling on to calories , especially if you have a lot to lose. You do need a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose a lb though. That's a lot when you think about it!

Spekoppar · 12/05/2021 09:04

Keep with it OP, a stone in 4 weeks is fab.

So much nonsense pop-diet talk spouted on this thread, starvation mode etc. This type of diet is perfectly legitimate, particularly when supervised by medical professionals. There have been some incredible results from studies looking at its role in reversing t2 diabetes amongst other things.

Jazzybeats · 12/05/2021 09:10

If accurate, you will be in a massive deficit. The weight loss will come. What you can do is weigh yourself daily and calculate a 7 day average. If you weigh yourself once a week then random daily factors can hide weight loss (eg whether you’ve done a poo, are hydrated, time of the month). Rolling weekly average sorts that.

Nahna · 12/05/2021 09:41

Thank you so much everyone, just read through the entire thread now. I feel a lot more motivated and reassured now and am sticking with it! I know a few people have mentioned starvation mode, clinging to fat, wrecking metabolism but this is absolutely not what all the medical professionals have said to me and I trust in their experience and judgement. My consultant answered all my questions patiently and thoroughly and I am well monitored and following their advice. Well done to everyone else doing this too and thanks for sharing your experiences!

@irinagraham

you will ruin your health, at least 1200-1300 calories, more sport is better than not less food!
Yeah, ignore those doctors telling the op to follow this diet. Doctors know nothing about keeping people healthy...
Amigoingmad29weeks · 12/05/2021 09:51

Weight is a really inaccurate way to measure fat loss. If I were you I'd measure yourself (waist, chest, hips and around each limb) on top of doing the weight. You'll be losing somewhere. X

Oysterbabe · 12/05/2021 09:51

Starvation mode isn't a thing.
You can't build muscle from some light cardio.
The OP is following the advice of a doctor who will know infinitely more about what is right for her than any of us.

BlueVelvetStars · 12/05/2021 13:11

Good on you OP.. ☺️

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 12/05/2021 16:42

If you’re a woman, then taking menstrual cycle into account helps so if you weigh weekly then average it out monthly to get a good idea of total loss.

For the love of god, stop starving yourself on 800 calories! The nazis used to give their prisoners 900 calories a day in concentration camps, just to put those 5 days into context...

But you’ve lost a lot of weight in very little time. As PPs said, 1-2lb a week is generally considered to be healthy weight loss. Again as a PP has said you can probably eat 1,800 calories of healthy food a day and lose weight, I’m 7 stone lighter than you and lose 2lb a week on 1,600.

I also suspect you’d be better off focusing on ensuring you are getting enough fibre and protein, it won’t be doing your body any favours if you aren’t eating healthily. A decent fibre and water intake does wonders for weight loss.

PurpleDaisies · 12/05/2021 17:23

Are you a doctor @Icancelledthecheque? This diet has been prescribed by someone with actual medical qualifications who has met the op in real life and knows their health history.

Jangle33 · 12/05/2021 17:26

Good luck OP.

Chat through with your doc definitely as they may be able to tweak it. Ignore anyone not medically qualified!

ChloeCrocodile · 12/05/2021 17:35

Well done OP! Sticking to the diet for 4 weeks is an achievement in itself and I'm impressed at your willpower. Keep following the plan - the doctors know what they are doing. The weight loss will come back.

Yes OP is definitely under GP guidance .. 🌸

Calotie reduction isn't always the best way to go. It's much better for your metabolism to 'Fast'. You can start on 16 hours a day. 4 hours either side of 8 hours slepp and you have 16 hours. Then eat only at 4 hour intervals when not fasting. Keep your carbs low on your last meal.
Reserch Dr Jason Fung on YouTube on whhy calories in/out do not equate to weight loss. It's all about controlling your hormones responsible for 'fat loss' or fat storage from too many carbs.

What do you think fasting is??? Calorie reduction!!
Penistoe · 12/05/2021 23:35

The ‘starvation mode’ is a myth. It is based on a study which the starving people’s weight slowed down, but only when they were drastically underweight, and only slowed!

VLCD 12 week programmes are recommended for lots of reasons, particularly when there is some urgency such as surgery etc.

Op I think other poster are correct you have most likely lost ‘fat’ in this time but it is being countered with monthly fluctuations and water weight. Weight loss will not be a straight line down. There will be stalls and suddenly the next week a big drop.

Is there a reason you are weighing yourself so often, it can become obsessive. Good luck you will get there.

take2bottlesintotheshower · 13/05/2021 07:14

Actually fasting is going for periods of time without eating, you could eat 2000 calories for a 4 hr window but still be considered to be fasting.

By the way I'm not suggesting that- lowering calories and increasing muscle mass are both the route for weightloss BUT only eating in a short window DOES also promote weightloss by keeping insulin low, as has been proven by study after study
