Not lost anything in 2 weeks, 800 calories

Hi everyone!
I've been doing 800 calories 5 days a week, with 2 rest days (1800 calories) for 1 month now. I'm exercising 40 mins a day 7 days a week. I'm very overweight, starting weight was 17 stone. In 2 weeks I lost 1 stone but in the last 2 weeks I've not lost even 1 pound! I religiously weigh and calorie count everything so I am absolutely certain I'm not exceeding 800 calories 5 days a week. Will I continue to lose weight? I just feel so despondent and shocked that in 2 weeks on so few calories, that I've not lost anything at all when I'm so fat. I eat at normal times, never later than 8pm. Only drink water. Help!

YABU - You should have lost weight
YANBU - Don't panic, this is normal, stick at it and you will lose weight

Thanks!

I did a few months of 800-1000 a day and lost consistently and my bum was only 26 to start with so didn't need to lose much weight .

I was drinking around 4ltrs of water a day though and food was low carb and high protein. Oh and I was burning around 3000 calories a day. How much are you burning a day?

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 12/05/2021 06:44

You didn't lose a stone in two weeks then nothing in two weeks. You lost a stone in 4 weeks. Weight loss isn't linear and the number you see on the scales doesn't represent actual fat loss. It's likely you weighed less at first due to water loss and as the water has been replaced the weight has stabilised, though you've likely lost fat steadily throughout.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/05/2021 06:45

My bum 🤣 my bmi. My bum is bloody non existent these days 🙄

I was on at least 10000 steps a day although I took it to 20, 000 and 60mins of cardio so hill walking /hiit videos on you tube

MummyShah369 · 12/05/2021 06:46

You may be gaining muscle from the exercise think more about your body composition then just a weight loss measure.

Nobody can gain muscle on 800 calories a day

I was very impressed there 😂🤣

This thread Confused so many ridiculous comments.

As someone who is actually following a VLCD as well, the weight loss is not linear. Unfortunately not everyone loses a shit tonne of weight every week either. My biggest loss has been 5lbs in my first week whilst being 100% on plan. I average 2-3 lbs a week on this. Which is a lot compared to 0.5lb a week on things like Weight Watchers.

Someone else posted about their cycle and mine is similar, big losses after my period and then post ovulation is slower. I am also ridiculously hungry in the week before my period.

I lose less if I exercise. I put two pounds on overnight after going for a long walk. I've lost a stone over six weeks so you're doing great. A stone a month is the general recommendation for a VLCD.

Has your doctor recommended the higher calorie days or is that for your sanity? Perhaps look at only having one higher calorie day instead if it is just to help you mentally.

Ive been swimming every day for over a month.. like clockwork.

I wonder if this is slowing my progress down. 🤔

How do you think regular exercise will be hindering weight loss??

How do you think regular exercise will be hindering weight loss??

would I be developing muscle .. as suggested upthread maybe ?

BlueVelvetStars · 12/05/2021 06:52

No Grin Growing new muscle is really hard. You need calorie excess and heavy weights. Being on a diet and going swimming cannot grow new muscle.

It's also a really weird attitude that having muscle could hinder weight loss. The goal shouldn't be to see the smallest possible number on the scales! Being slim and muscular is better than being slim and weak, both for health and looks.

frumpety · 12/05/2021 06:59

I have been lurking on the FB page and this seems to be a common theme, people lose a lot , then nothing, then it starts again. Drink plenty of water and keep going seems to be the standard advice.

Most of the people are doing 800 every day for the 12 weeks, is there a reason you are having more on a weekend ?

its new to me.. Ive put on weight over this last few months and it been so difficult to shift. I cycle, I swim, I play tennis, I walk.

Still the scales don't change. I lost 7lbs over the first 3 weeks.. then nothing.

I appreciate it takes time, I'll stick with it ☺️

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/05/2021 07:02

As a pp says, building muscle is hard! My friend does weight training for comps and she does hours of heavy lifting and boxing to gain muscle. Not to mention the calorie intake of around 2500 a day now!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/05/2021 07:05

I lost my last stone doing a 28 day body blast with a pt, we had one day a week healthy off plan meal so more calorie intake. It's supposed to reset your body and help with weight loss so the extra calories at the weekend makes sense to me

BlueVelvetStars · 12/05/2021 07:07

I'll be honest... Im bumbling around blindly between google and threads on here 🤣

Ive never had this issue before.. I can go up and down between the same half stone .. but this past few months have been hard on my routine, so here we are. 🥴

Stick with it. In the year since I was diagnosed with type 2 I’ve lost over 7st and put it in remission. Some weeks I lost loads others nothing, I actually only weigh myself every couple of months or so now as I’m in the healthy bmi range.
Keep up the walking it really helped me and to keep me motivated I signed up for diabetes uk million steps challenge again this year.

Sarahandco · 12/05/2021 07:14

You could find after your period you get a big drop. Also are you measuring waist etc. you could be loosing inches that might not show up on the scales yet. I have experienced similar.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/05/2021 07:15

@bluevelvetstars it was hard work but I'd been stuck trying to lose this last stone for about 2 years 🤣

If you are in a calorie deficit, it's very hard to 'grow' muscle. To do that, you'll need to be in a caloric surplus. Your muscles could however be retaining water to repair themselves, but it shouldn't cause a plateau.

To the PP who said that OP's body might be in panic mode & clinging onto fat, seriously?! Sounds like the crap trotted out at Slimming World when you don't lose as expected. That is not a thing, especially not when you're as overweight as OP is.

OP, you sound like you're doing a great job! Stick with it, the scales WILL move! 👍🏼

BlueVelvetStars · 12/05/2021 07:18

thank you Mumsnetters .. its quite demoralising but I am in it for the long hall..

thanks for the input.. its all very helpful 🌸

Morgan12 · 12/05/2021 07:18

Did a doctor really tell you to do this? This is absolutely mental! You will completely fuck your metabolism. Your body won't have a clue what to do right now. Its clinging onto they calories because its starving. They will drop off soon enough though if you stick at it.
