Posting for traffic hope this is ok..
My 4 year old in the last week or so keeps putting his hand in his pants. I don't want him to be embarrassed or feel he's naughty or whatever but obviously he can't keep doing it either. He was doing it at nursery today and it was brought up at pick up. I'm currently just pulling his hand out and saying hand out of pants. He's a bit behind with speech so it's hard to get the point across sometimes.

I work in a sen school with teenagers with severe LD

This is a common issue! We also say "that's for home in your bedroom"

Totally agree about making sure you don't say it's wrong.

If there's an issue that it has maybe become habit breaking it is easy with popper vests or dungarees.

TBF if I had a willy I would probably do the same. Grin

One of mine is terrible for this but outside his pants. He’s 7 so it really isn’t acceptable. I tell him it’s for when he’s on his own and he shouldn’t be touching his privates in public. He doesn’t realise he does it so we have a secret signal to remind him when out so we don’t embarrass him but it makes him aware, think ear pulling type signal.

Channel Joyce Grenfell. "Don't put your hands there, dear"

DS is 2.5 at the weekend he was running around with no pants on jumped up and down to make it move and said mummy I love my willy... They're all obsessed

I agree with other posters, I am always telling my 17-year-old to get his hands out of his pants. It’s become a bit of a joke as he either denies he’s doing it or says he’s ‘keeping his hands warm 🤣

Yes, both of mine did this and yes, hands out of pants please eventually worked, DS2 used to pull his in the bath, once told me he was trying to see whether it would fall off.

@thecatsarecrazy he’s been in the news because apparently he’s well known for whipping his bits out on set when filming.

Just to say it's definitely a lifelong thing. My nana was in dementia care home and they had to have a special Derek blanket for one of the men there who was constantly playing with himself.

Sad but also totally natural....social decency means they have to learn not to do it in public but little boys and the likes of poor old Derek don't have that ability.
