Really shaken up. Did I do anything wrong here?

For past two years I have done the school run, I park on a street near the school. There is a detached house with a driveway and a patch of grass next to the driveway. I park in front of the patch of grass, not blocking the driveway whatsoever.

Once I drop my child at school I get collected by my workmate (we are cleaners so have company car) and then work till 3 until I have to return for school run and car.

This morning as I was getting out of the car the lady in the house came charging out, she said 'can you stop parking your car in front of my house?' I said 'it's a public road' and she said 'you park out here 5 days a week, if you refuse to move it I should make you aware that I will be cutting my grass today and any damage to your car is not my responsibility' said with a sarcastic smile on her face, she then walked back into the house shaking her head.

I've left the car but worried now she is going to damage it.

Am I being unreasonable parking it there? It's a public road and not on her property at all.

Diagram please...

I can totally understand why this would piss her off. Especially being so close to a school. Feels entitled

Diagram will help with decision making

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/05/2021 13:27

@CaraherEIL

Curious- I didn’t miss that you are trade, I am trade too, we just have a difference of opinion.
So... you do get annoyed when you get to a job and there is no off road parking and no immediately adjacent space? You judge the unknown car parker? Or do you do the sensible thing and park wherever you can?

I can't imagine getting annoyed by it. It happens every day!

HotelCaliforniaOnRepeat · 10/05/2021 13:27

@Ilikecheeseontoast

It would annoy me if a stranger parked outside my house all day every day. Can't you find somewhere else to park? Pub car park? Your own driveway?
Pub car parks are not for people to park in to go elsewhere! They are for customers.
namechangingforthis19586 · 10/05/2021 13:27

Do cars passing your car have to pull in behind it and wait if there's a vehicle coming from the other direction? That causes aggro.

I think you're being very unreasonable parking all day outside the same home, but you clearly don't care or you would have stopped.

Bashfull900 · 10/05/2021 13:28

I think we need a diagram.

Temp023 · 10/05/2021 13:29

I’m afraid I’d have accidentally run a key down the side of this car months ago OP.

MiddleParking · 10/05/2021 13:29

@Temp023

I’m afraid I’d have accidentally run a key down the side of this car months ago OP.
Would you fuck.
loulou0987 · 10/05/2021 13:29

If I knew I was inconveniencing someone I think I would pick a different spot! 2 years is a long time to wait before saying something, I think she’s put up with it long enough!!

Mrgrinch · 10/05/2021 13:30

I'd be pissed off too.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/05/2021 13:31

Wow.
Get a life.

Turquoisesol · 10/05/2021 13:32

If you really need to park in this neighbourhood you could choose a slightly different spot every day to minimise upset to the people who live there. She must feel like you are almost victimising her, poor lady.

Listener2021 · 10/05/2021 13:32

The resident has in fact been very patient. Many people would have parked their own car in that spot, in the hope of changing OP's very persistent habit. It's true that no one owns the right to a public parking spot, but that includes OP.

Roonerspismed · 10/05/2021 13:33

She is being a twat

That said it’s very annoying when someone parks outside your house every single day. There is a guy that does it to us. Every day and all day except weekends.

We aren’t twats and so haven’t said anything but I wish to god he would mix it up a bit and park somewhere else occasionally

camaleon · 10/05/2021 13:33

Why do people believe they own the road opposite their house? Where does it come from?
I grew up in another country and then I have lived in two more. Only in the UK people feel entitled to the road they can see. It is mental that some people believe the OP has done anything wrong.
I would totally ignore this kind of entitlement. It has no basis whatsoever.

Heartofglass12345 · 10/05/2021 13:33

Why is it annoying? Do people really have nothing better to do than worry about cars parking perfectly legally outside their house?
If it's not causing any problems or an obstruction then stop moaning lol.
I wouldn't start parking somewhere else!

Ginuwine · 10/05/2021 13:33

OP's not saying she wants to own it.

OP is shaken up after being threatened for her continuous yet legal usage of it.

Bullies like the grass cutting homeowner want you to think it's not yours to park in, but neither is it theirs

CaraherEIL · 10/05/2021 13:33

Curious, no but if I have to visit a customer everyday for one or two weeks and everytime I arrive in the morning the slot outside their house is taken by the same car I would get frustrated. I wouldn’t be as dramatic as judging the person who parked there but it would be frustrating especially if I was having to carry a fair amount of stuff.
Obviously everyone does the sensible thing and parks somewhere else, but in the lashing rain I might not always do it like in a zen like state of benevolence!

BeeDavis · 10/05/2021 13:34

Anyone with a car that parks outside my house is more than welcome to do so! As long as you aren’t parking like a dick then she’s no right to have a go. People on my street like to double park making it hard for anyone to drive by which annoys me more than anyone legally parking their car

LittleTiger007 · 10/05/2021 13:34

@AndreaMarteau

Just because it's a spot outside her house doesn't mean she owns it. She has a drive so it's not like you are taking a space you need. I hate entitled people like this

See, this kind of attitude makes me laugh. The woman whose house it is, is 'entitled' because she's pissed off about someone parking outside her house, despite how it may inconvenience her (and let's face it, we only have one side of the story here). Yet it's ok for the OP to leave her car somewhere where she doesn't live, on a residential street, all day because it's easier for her than parking at home.

There's a bit of entitlement here from both of them, let's be honest.

This.
Miasicarisatia · 10/05/2021 13:36

Mrs '4 car driveway' is enjoying lording it over the peasants who have to park on the street
Veiled threats about damaging your car if you don't obey her 😲 what is she... the maffia?
