What time do you have your roast dinner?

I’ve just put the pork in the oven, aiming for about 3pm.

When I first met DH it used to drive him nuts that we’d go to my parents for a big family roast mid afternoon. His dinner time was always very firmly midday or evening.

But roast dinners have always been a mid afternoon thing in my family. He got used to it and now it’s just standard.

Is it weird though?

AIBU to always have a mid afternoon Sunday lunch?

It turns out I struggle to eat a roast after about 5pm with suffering terrible reflux, but we always had it around 4pm growing up (as dad worked very late and as a result we had a fry up around 10am)

Blew my other half's mind 🤯

3pm is a perfect time for a massive roast.

We are the opposite, I think it should be lunch or dinner time and my husband's family do mid afternoon. I dont like it because I don't know what to eat the rest of the day.

We used to at Christmas because my family did. But I have moved it from 4 to 2 because everyone was getting drunk and sugar high and eating in 5 mins because they were starving. But that’s because I can’t be arsed to make a proper breakfast, if you can I can see it would work,

I do ours for about 5.30pm. My toddler still naps, so the middle of the day wouldn't suit us. When I was growing up we always had ours at around 3pm.

Usually about 6.30, like the rest of the week. We often do things during the day, at the very least gardening etc so a big meal in the middle of the day isn't very helpful.

@ineedaholidaynow

For those who eat at 3pm, are you eating a roast with all the trimmings or just meat and 2 veg type meal?
@ineedaholidaynow - for me all the trimmings. So usually meat, cauliflower cheese, four other veg (e.g. roasted carrots, broccoli, peas, spring greens etc), roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, gravy.

So really a huge meal and quite enough for lunch and dinner (especially with seconds) - so as long as we have breakfast on offer mid-morning no need for a second meal.

Works for us, but I can see why it wouldn't for everyone.
