Does anyone else think Boris is a gaslighter?

Just that really. I’m shocked time and time again how he says things that are the opposite of the truth and spins things to suit him. It’s gaslighting of the nation.

@Quincie

what I mean is someone has to make decisions - to employ and pay scientists, to employ statisticians, to order PPE, to have a lockdown, to arrange contracts with vaccine suppliers that meant we got the required stuff, to give investment to suppliers so they can up their supplies, to get the vaccine round the country, to plan ahead, to bring in the military.

This Gov and civil servants organised this it wouldn't have happened off it's own bat. BJ is the PM obviously he had a hand in this.

Of course it's tax payers money paying for it.

Johnson will have had a hand in it to a very limited extent, he will have signed things off once other people had done the work and made most of the decisions. Which is exactly why I said the scientists who developed the vaccine, the NHS which rolled it out, and all the civil servants etc. Working behind the scenes should get the credit.

I

rabbitcow · 10/05/2021 06:43

Everyone knows Johnson does none of the work but takes the credit. It is how he operated when he was Mayor of London. He is a master of delegation.

UseOfWeapons · 10/05/2021 06:57

No, I don’t.

Quincie · 10/05/2021 07:02

He is a master of delegation

But that is a great and necessary skill for a leader!

Quincie · 10/05/2021 07:05

@Theunamedcat
No they were working on other projects

Exactly - that was my point - the scientists were working in their jobs and to take them off their jobs to work on covid would have taken quite a lot of planning, financing etc etc
PP thinks that they did it off their own bat

DoubleTweenQueen · 10/05/2021 07:07

Yes.

@blueangel19

He lies constantly. Yes, he is our version of Trump.

This is what the left are trying to do here. Making Boris look like a version of Trump. However, it has totally backfired . People seems to be more rational here and focus on what is important. Boris is far from perfect but much better than what the opposition has offered so far.

This 👆 with bells on

lovelyupnorth · 10/05/2021 07:10

He’s just a liar and a cheat.

rabbitcow · 10/05/2021 07:17

Oh don't be so silly Quincie I didn't say they "did it off their own bat" don't put words into my mouth. I just think Johnson should not be allowed to take the credit for the one thing that has gone right during the of the pandemic. But you obviously like him. I loathe him, so will leave it there.

Roussette · 10/05/2021 07:24

He is positive which is very welcome

Yeah... if you're open to soundbites and buffoonery.

Reminds me of someone I know who said she voted for Boris because 'he makes me laugh'.
Very sensible Hmm

He's a liar and a twister of the truth. Gaslighting, no idea. Just out and out liar.

The only thing going for him as far as people who like him is... vaccine roll out. But anyone who thinks it's down to him, is deluded. Tell that to the 10,000 vaccine centre volunteers. He will trade off the vaccine rollout forever. To cover up all the crap.

LizzieSiddal · 10/05/2021 07:34

He’s a compulsive liar but those who vote for him will never admit it as that would make them look stupid.

tropicalwaterdiver · 10/05/2021 07:47

@lovelyupnorth

He’s just a liar and a cheat.
I would add professional there - he is a professional liar and serial cheat. Plus laziness and lack of attention to details.

However, he made a very good decision in choosing Kate to manage vaccine programme that generated huge amount of credit for Boris personally.

My view it's his scruffy appearance that makes him likeable by voters. Like the man works so hard he has no time for himself.

Roussette · 10/05/2021 07:51

Well... bear in mind, it's on film that he ruffles his hair up before PMQ's. It's a ruse to make him likeable, he's been doing it for years.

His past record by previous colleagues and employees shows he is a serial liar and not to be trusted.

LizzieSiddal · 10/05/2021 07:55

He’s on film ruffling his hair before every tv interview/piece. Have I Got News For You showed a montage of this, several years ago.

MissyB1 · 10/05/2021 08:18

The vaccine roll out success was due to the NHS and the volunteers. Every time Boris fans credit it to him they are insulting the NHS as far as I'm concerned. And if Track and Trace had been given to the NHS I suspect it would have worked fine and saved lives. Of course that would have meant no back handers or favours for the Government though.....

Pottedpalm · 10/05/2021 08:32

I think most mature adults are disinterested in Boris’ personal life. It’s his business. Ditto the refurb; I don’t give a monkey’s who paid for it.
There is a lot of ignorance on display concerning the way government works.
Also seems unfair that Boris should be blamed for any failings in the handling of the pandemic, but not given credit for the many successes.

ToniHargis · 10/05/2021 08:34

Yes, because he doesn't address or answer questions, and leaves people thinking "No, that's not what happened" or "Answer the damn question."
Furthermore, with the flat-decoration issue, they repeatedly said "The British public doesn't care about this" over and over until people did in fact, start questioning what the public cared about or whether in fact, it was a big deal. They attempted to distort reality. That's gaslighting.

fiftiesmum · 10/05/2021 08:42

If he can lie and cheat in his personal life then it is a small step to lying in his public life. All this bullshit about his success in the vaccine when him not listening to the scientists led to the surge in infection illness and death over the winter.
He didn't get brexit done otherwise why all these problems with Northern Ireland or Jersey - plus many smaller companies having problems trading with mainland Europe.
And then trying to convince us that everything is fine and any problems are our own making

DoubleTweenQueen · 10/05/2021 09:17

The JVCI, MHRA, NHS are the key players in the vaccine success, along with John Bell and other key individuals in Pharma in UK, EU & US.

adeleh · 10/05/2021 09:41

I don’t think many people care what BJ’s flat looks like. But of course people care about how it was funded. If someone is giving £58000 then they are going to want something in return. We’ve seen the billions of public money flowing into businesses with no experience run by Tory donors or friends. How strange to think that mature adults simply wouldn’t care about the public losing money like that.

HOkieCOkie · 10/05/2021 09:50

He’s a politician darling it’s his job to be able to stretch the truth.

Roussette · 10/05/2021 10:01

Ditto the refurb; I don’t give a monkey’s who paid for it

Shock

I can assure you I'm a mature adult and there are many of us who do care. We care a lot. Do I want a PM who is compromised because of taking loans?
NO

MissyB1 · 10/05/2021 10:10

It worries me the amount of people who don't care about their prime minister cheating and lying and being totally untrustworthy. Why set such low standards for your PM?

Its not "ignorant" to want a PM who can be trusted to do the right thing, its about respect - for their job and for us the voters.

Boris as the PM is responsible for his Governments failings - why on earth would you think he's not??

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 10/05/2021 10:13

Much of the population are overweight, have health conditions, all those people must be glad BJ is PM

Erm nope

You have made some massive generalisations

There are people who voted tory and remain
