Was this woman being cruel to her cat? Or was this just a bit of a light-hearted laugh?

So, this woman (on Twitter today,) posted a little video of her cat wanting to come in out of the rain. Kittie was scratching at the window. 'Let me in!' you could hear her cry! (Well I imagined she was saying that.)

The poster received some positive comments and LOLs, but also a load of abusive messages of how utterly cruel she was, and how badly she was treating this lovely creature. Several people even tagged in the RSPCA, saying 'investigate this person!'

Sooooo, in your opinion, was she being cruel to her cat? Or was it just a bit of a laugh?

'YABU' for she was being cruel to her cat.

'YANBU' for it was just a bit of a laugh.

Thanks for participating. Smile

We have a cat flap on the back door, lazy cat will sit at the front door to be let in/out and sit Onslow in exactly the same way rather than go and use the back door. He will also do it to go into the downstairs toilet (no litter tray or anything of his in there he just likes the door to be open)

MiddlesexGirl · 08/05/2021 21:11

Definitely not funny.
But not cruel either. Assuming the cat is genet well looked after.

*generally

I don’t have a cat flap because I’m in rented accommodation.

I don’t think it was cruel but unnecessary and probably done just to get some likes on SM which annoys me. I think it’s a slippery slope involving animals or children as some of the videos are boarding on cruel.

Catslovepies · 08/05/2021 21:26

It's slightly cruel and I wouldn't have done it but not a big deal. We have a cat flap but our cat prefers to howl at the top of his lungs until someone opens the door for him. I think he dislikes the cat flap as it catches on his tail.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 08/05/2021 21:27

how would the poster like to be out in the rain naked in the cold. Maybe we should try it.

The cat isn't naked 😂😂😂 Fur is actually pretty warm thing. And even waterproof to an extent
Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 08/05/2021 21:39

@AnUnoriginalUsername cats aren’t scared of rain, on the whole. And they don’t do this when they’re scared. They run and hide when they’re scared. You’ve never had a cat, have you?

They do this when they want their own way. My cat does it to get into the cupboard where our washing machine is. Am I cruel to stop her from going in there? Is she scared of not being allowed into the washing machine cupboard?

DomingoinLittleOakley · 08/05/2021 22:00

My cat does this - scratches at the door to be let out. I get up, let her out and 2 minutes later she's doing the same thing to be let back in again. I get up, let her in, and then 2 minutes later she's doing it to be let out again. Ad infinitum. My cat is a dick.

littlepattilou · 09/05/2021 00:31

@Honeyroar

My cats do this, then winge to go out again and do it again to come back in. Sometimes, when they’re asking to come in for the tenth time in half an hour, they get ignored for a few minutes!
This is why you REALLY need a catflap! Grin

There's a video I hate of someone's dog having a nightmare, it's clearly being attacked by something and gets more and more frantic to the point it actually gets up and runs into a wall. It's awful, it must have been so scared and the people responsible for looking after it just found it funny. We always wake our girl up gently when she's having a nightmare. Just like we wake eachother up. I'd never let her be afraid when I could take that away.

Our rescue dog has nightmares if we tried to gently wake him up he would more than likely take a chunk out of us. I dont find it funny though. As for the car as long as it ws let in fairly quickly it would be fine, I mean they don't shrink in the rain as far as I know.

Here is my neglected 🐈
Does this several times a day to get into the bedroom window.

No cat flap because he flaps onto the roof Grin

prawntoastie · 09/05/2021 01:05

Short video not a big deal

Anystarinthesky · 09/05/2021 01:05

I think it is cruel.

GeidiPrimes · 09/05/2021 01:08

I don't think that was cruel. My cat does the same thing on the kitchen window, in spite of having a flap 1m away. He just enjoys getting me at it. He also does the "washing windows" move on any flat vertical surface, like pictures and the side of the bath.

HerRoyalNotness · 09/05/2021 02:28

She said further down it does it no matter the weather.

We don’t have a cat flap either, up and down all day to let ours in. Sometimes I make her wait a bit, to show her who is the boss - she is -

She whines to go out after dark and gets a firm no. If I happen to wake at 3-4am as I often do she gets excited and thinks I’m about to let her out.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 09/05/2021 03:08

My cat howls outside the patio doors no matter what the weather is because she is a diva and is in and out all day long. I would of let the cat in if it was raining but I can guarantee as soon you let them in, they want to go straight back out again!!

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 09/05/2021 03:13

@IReallyNeedMoreGin

My cat screams at my kitchen window to be let in. I let her in. She goes straight out the doggie door, back to the kitchen window and sits and screams at me. She will do this all day if I let her. My cat is an asshole.
😂😂😂😂
SappysCurry · 09/05/2021 03:14

I hate humans making fools out of animals for ‘a laugh’ disrespectful to the animal
I used to detest that ‘youve been framed’ shoitvas well. Same thick mentality.

SappysCurry · 09/05/2021 03:14

shit as

TravellingJack · 09/05/2021 04:44

My cat does this at the living room window and at the front door despite there being a door or window open for her in the kitchen, because those options aren't good enough and she wants to come in through this door/window. Then she trots through to the kitchen, straight back out and repeat. She is an asshole. She has made random passers-by ring the sodding doorbell to let her in because she's so good at looking pathetically abandoned and neglected Hmm

BarbaraofSeville · 09/05/2021 07:00

One of our cats is currently on the doorstep sheltering from the rain.

She won't use either of the two cat flaps provided so she can come and go as she pleases because, well why should she when that lazy fucker who is currently sat drinking tea and Mumsnetting could get up and open the big door for her so she can come in and sit on the inside door mat and express her displeasure at the weather.

Cats are arseholes, well practiced at expressing dissatisfaction with their lot, even when they're massively indulged by their human slaves. I very much expect that's what's going on with the cat in the video, rather than him being shut out for hours in the rain and having to beg to be let back in.

OhRene · 09/05/2021 09:15

People who don't have cats: "I think it's cruel!"

People who actually have cats: "Cats are arseholes! It's just dramatics!"
