Things that you used to enjoy but don't know

I was thinking about this as I have a literature degree and in the 10+ years since I graduated I think I've read less than ten books Blush The degree, which I really enjoyed doing, just killed my love of reading for pleasure.
Also, when I was on maternity leave, I bought a second hand PlayStation and got quite into gaming. I've tried to play it again since but it was never the same and it just felt like a waste of time. Something about completing a new level when life felt quite repetitive (feeds, naps, walks) was really rewarding. I think back to that time with fondness.
I also remember my friend who got really into cooking after lost her job and took a few months finding a new one. She had never even cooked pasta prior to this and then she was inviting us over for three course meals. She had a real gift! When she found a new job she went right back to ready meals and take aways. She has never cooked since!
What are yours?

Theme park rides - make me feel sick now
Caramac - used to love it as a child, doesn't taste the same now

IHeartKingThistle · 08/05/2021 20:59

I had a massive sewing phase a few years ago and haven't looked at the machine since. No idea why!

House2home21 · 08/05/2021 21:02

Having my nails done, just seems like such a waste of time now, and they only look lovely for a few days.

White and rose wine - just makes me so pissed and I get terrible booze blues from them.

Agree with book clubs @1Morewineplease

I used to love drawing and art. I can't ever be arsed now. Used to be good and now I don't think I could draw anything. I don't have the patience time or inclination.

Bramblebutter · 08/05/2021 21:08

Listening to music. From 15 years old until about maybe 27ish, I devoured music, listened to my favourite albums and discovered new bands constantly. Now it's beeb2 on occasion, and lots of nursery ryhme station :S

I miss my music though, I would enjoy it still, I just don't have the time/concentration now

Bramblebutter · 08/05/2021 21:10

@opaljewel - yes this too I'm the same. I used to spend 5hrs+ on a charcoal portrait - now I cba and Im afraid I'll not be any good anymore.

I used to make jewellery, stopped about 5/6 years ago and can’t face doing it now.

With my first DS I loved all bright clothes and wooden toys. Spent a fortune on babi pur. I even got matching items with DS! He looked like a walking crayola, and I looked like an overgrown toddler 😂. Have newborn DS and heartily dislike all the bright clothes now and think they look ridiculous 🙈

@Fimofriend

Playing music and singing with others. I realized that while I liked to play an instrument and to sing, I hated to perform and as that is what the other musicians and singers wanted, I would just hold them back. I was a prima soprano, so was given a lot of solos, and I just did not enjoy the attention. No matter the amount of praise.

I still sometimes sing when I am alone, though.

That seems so sad. Please don’t stop singing!

Going for a hair cut. I used to get so excited about it, seeing the end result. Now I just can’t be arsed. My hair is really long and I haven’t had it cut for about 2 years now. I’ll have to go at some point... it feels more like a chore these days that I put off.

The gym. I was really in to it years ago. I joined again a couple of years ago and got so bored. My 10 year old says he wants to join when he’s old enough (11), so I will go with him when he’s able to join.

Bit of a random one this, but those Belgian chocolate seashells. I was mad on them for about 20 years, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere I can’t stand the taste of them.
Do people’s taste buds change with age, as I’m not as keen on sweet things in general as I used to be?

EveningOverRooftops · 08/05/2021 21:25

Parenting. Teens are arses.

I used to sing in a choir.
Got to a point where it didn't work with the kids. I don't miss it.

Soaps, particularly Corrie. Haven’t watched it for decades now.
Nightclubs.
Pubs.
Alcohol.
Say Yes To The Dress.
Strictly.
Shopping for clothes as a leisure activity. I do it all online now.

NCNCNCNCNCNCNCNCNC · 08/05/2021 21:29

Cooking. I used to spend hours in the kitchen on intricate recipes.

I enjoy hosting a dinner party if I have free time. The house is clean and I have a glass of wine in my hand but in the week we live off pasta, chilli and beans on toast.

NCNCNCNCNCNCNCNCNC · 08/05/2021 21:30

Also shopping and dressing up. When I was size 6 and loved the way I look. I don't hate the way I look now, but there isn't that same enjoyment and most of the time I'm exhausted.

StudentProblems · 08/05/2021 21:30

Cooking for me! Can’t be arsed now.

Cherrysoup · 08/05/2021 21:31

Clubbing. Used to love it, now I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

LunaNorth · 08/05/2021 21:33

Music festivals.

Tramping around all day, then being kept awake in a tent all night; sunburn; shit food; gopping toilets.

Nope.

MrsDThomas · 08/05/2021 21:34

Going shopping and being around people.

For the past year ive grown to love being home and not having to be with people. Seeing the queues makes me stay at home

LunaNorth · 08/05/2021 21:34

Having a cat.

I’ve had five over the years. I only really liked two of them. I’d not have another, I don’t think.

FilthyforFirth · 08/05/2021 21:37

Clothes shopping now I am fat. I used to love it so much, even if I wasnt buying anything. But now it is depressing, cant wear the clothes I used to, or indeed want to. Find it a massive chore now rather than something that bring me joy

OlivesTree · 08/05/2021 21:46

@Cherrysoup

Clubbing. Used to love it, now I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.
I came on to say exactly the same thing.

At first it was just too late - if only we could start at six and be in bed by midnight. Day clubs were the answer to this for a while.

Now, the noise, the toilets, the bar queue and All Those People! Shock Just no.

OlivesTree · 08/05/2021 21:48

Festivals too. All those children walking around nearly naked. Warm beer. Worse loos. No thanks.

MadMadMadamMim · 08/05/2021 21:52

Much of mine are to do with getting older, I suspect.

I no longer want to go to festivals. Hours of queuing, mud, tents, inadequate toilets and shit bands you have barely heard of, with poor sound quality no longer appeals.

Getting very drunk. Staggering home in the early hours. Smoking fags.

Anything, frankly that requires much effort or commitment from me.

I am the epitome of CBA these days.

Pemberleys · 08/05/2021 21:55

Drinking, all night parties, smoking, reality TV.
