I clean at a house every week. Yesterday while I was there her daughter, granddaughter and three great grandchildren turned up. I was so annoyed I asked If they should be there (regretted it straight away as I felt cheeky) daughter said we'll visit if we want.

I went In another room to clean. When they'do gone I asked why children weren't at school. Grandma said because their teacher has tested positive for covid!

I'm gobsmacked, this isn't my only job and I can't afford two weeks isolation if I get it.

AIBU to be pissed off. Cases are rising in our area as well.

Agree that was completely out of order but you're in a difficult position in that I expect you don't want to lose your job in that house.

Quincie · 06/05/2021 06:53

You should have informed the woman whose house it is first. At first I couldn't see your problem (I've been jabbed). Then you could have left.

Cuntryhouse · 06/05/2021 06:57

If the children are isolating then they are not allowed out of their own front door.

MinesAPintOfTea · 06/05/2021 07:01

My cleaner is very clear that if more than one person is on the house, she has to stop cleaning and come back next week. Fees are still payable. You can put a similar policy in place.

She is fair: the week we cocked up and both adults were here she took an early break to give us 10 mins to decide what to do and get out of the way, but we have set boundaries and they are kept.

I was going to say I'll leave and come back next week but I'd swapped days and didn't know if this was a regular wed thing with them. If it had been my usual day I would have made it clear thst I will leave if you have any visitors in future.

If you've had both vaccines there is no evidence that you can still catch and pass it on.
What do you think will happen when everyone has had both vaccines? The world will carry on...

There’s also no evidence that you can’t still catch it and pass it on. The Gov website suggests that they don’t really know for sure either way. So seeing as everyone hasn’t been vaccinated yet, and as the current rules are still for people to isolate whether they’ve been vaccinated or not, she’s not being unreasonable to be annoyed at the possibility of having to isolate for two weeks.

OP, I think that there are so many people who have either decided not to follow the rules, or are making up their own rules, or who could still pass it on even if they’re following the rules to the letter, that all you can do is try your best to protect yourself. Tell your clients you’re adopting a policy like the pp mentioned and that if you can’t clean because they’re having a family gathering, fees will still be payable.

Meh. Will be so glad when all this pearl clutching is over.

It's not pearly clutching though is it. It's about what people are comfortable with. I'm fairly relaxed these days but I would not want to be in the same house as someone else's kid who has been exposed to a teacher who had tested positive. Aside from the fact that if the OP is trying to clean she doesn't need all and sundry cluttering up the house and getting in her way.

Very disrespectful of you.

Just because the children are off school due to the teacher it doesn't necessarily mean they have to isolate, they could be off due to no available replacement teacher.

nitsandwormsdodger · 06/05/2021 10:21

wtfdoipick the teacher is COVID positive so kids who have not been jabbed should not visiting anyone v irresponsible to make an un necessary visit just leave granny alone for a week ffs

TJ17 · 06/05/2021 10:23

Actually there is a lot more evidence pointing towards the fact that being fully vaccinated does stop transmission...

Copied from another thread:
"there HAS not been one case thus far of a FULLY (2-weeks post second dose by definition) vaccinated individual transmitting the virus (in the case of a rare breakthrough infection)."

The world has to continue at some point!!! We can't all get vaccinated and carry on living as hermits forever. It's been a fucking year.

TJ17 · 06/05/2021 10:26

None of us visited my Nan for a year apart from my mum who was in a bubble with her.

She was miserable and got really terrible depression as she is housebound.

She then caught Covid from the carers that go into her and nearly died having not seen any family for almost a year and living with depression all that time.

Do I visit her now? Absolutely.

MinesAPintOfTea · 06/05/2021 12:19

It is more acceptable for pp to decide with their families what risks they collectively are happy to take. That does not mean that they can expose other people at work to those risks directly, especially when it is illegal to do so.

I’m sure the op isn’t there enough to prevent the family gathering happening.

Children don’t live with their teachers, the only need to isolate if they have been near the teacher in the 48 hours before her/him having symptoms.

My sons teacher tested positive in November, he went to school as normal as his teacher didn’t have symptoms until the monday morning.

towers14 · 06/05/2021 12:25

Cleaner here, the only thing that would bug me if they were in the way. I wouldn't make such a drama of it. The kids don't need to isolate re their teacher and you've had both jabs, calm down dear.

That's a totally made up rule, if I followed that I'd lose half my customers.

There have been reported cases of people catching covid after having both jabs. No vaccine has 100% efficacy.
BrilliantBetty · 06/05/2021 12:37

Even without the virus issue I think it is U of the client to have multiple guests round including children when you're trying to clean the house.

TJ17 · 06/05/2021 12:52

So shall we isolate forever then? 🙄

TJ17 · 06/05/2021 12:53

Also what evidence is there of somebody catching Covid 2 weeks after both vaccines please?

TJ17 · 06/05/2021 12:57

Also catching Covid and becoming seriously ill or dying from Covid is very different.

We have to carry on with life now whether the vaccine is 100% efficient or not.

If you don't want to and want to stay home alone forever go ahead but won't stop you dying
