To think they shouldn't have visited.

I clean at a house every week. Yesterday while I was there her daughter, granddaughter and three great grandchildren turned up. I was so annoyed I asked If they should be there (regretted it straight away as I felt cheeky) daughter said we'll visit if we want.

I went In another room to clean. When they'do gone I asked why children weren't at school. Grandma said because their teacher has tested positive for covid!

I'm gobsmacked, this isn't my only job and I can't afford two weeks isolation if I get it.

AIBU to be pissed off. Cases are rising in our area as well.

@Fitforforty
"There have been reported cases of people catching covid after having both jabs. No vaccine has 100% efficacy."

Really, where?

Of course no vaccine can be 100% effective, but reports coming out suggest there's little risk of catching/transmitting once vaccinated.

swimlittlefishy · 06/05/2021 13:01

The world has to continue at some point!!! We can't all get vaccinated and carry on living as hermits forever. It's been a fucking year

Yes, at some point. But that point is not NOW. We aren't all vaccinated. It's not over yet.

The Zoe covid app researchers have reported something like 40 cases which they are aware of people contracting covid after having both vaccines.

I have always left the house even in pre covid times so my cleaner can just get on with the job without tripping over people.

Covid or not - I don't think I would fancy trying to clean a house with all those people about.

The only time recently I stayed in my house was days post c- section and we (me and baby) isolated in one room while my partner took our toddler out.

So I think it was unfair for you to clean with all those people there

MinesAPintOfTea · 06/05/2021 14:04

She isn’t obliged by law to leave if the house is busy. She also isn’t obliged by law to enter. Feels like a fair contract term in covid times. Note that I can be working in the house, it’s just having multiple people moving about that isn’t allowed. During school holidays I give advance notice if the house won’t be empty and don’t pay for those weeks.

But I also know she is (like me) too young to be vaccinated yet, and lives with her elderly mother. As well as cleans for some people who have illnesses. So I’m happy for her to be wary and DH just picks those days as the ones he will be in the office for each week.

curlyLJ · 06/05/2021 14:05

@Fitforforty According to Zoe app you have a 1 in 150,000 chance of contracting Covid after 2 vaccines. That's pretty low odds.

I really think we need to start living again and let the vaccine do it's job, accepting that there will be cases/deaths, just like with flu each year.

The above was in response to @towers14. The quote button didn’t work.

Yes the chances of anyone catching covid in the U.K. is low at the moment so that’s contributes to the lower numbers but it’s still possible to catch.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/05/2021 14:36

The children weren’t just there as excess people, they were actually supposed to be isolating! Shocking that they were there.

I agree with the pp who says that she should make it clear in future that she will leave if there are additional people there, and still charge.

I’m not a pearl clutcher or anxious about covid generally but this is ridiculous.

Dalamalama · 06/05/2021 16:06

@TJ17

Also catching Covid and becoming seriously ill or dying from Covid is very different.

We have to carry on with life now whether the vaccine is 100% efficient or not.

If you don't want to and want to stay home alone forever go ahead but won't stop you dying

Thanks for that, I hadn't realised I will die one day.

We have to carry on with life but we also shouldn't be taking unnecessary risks. I'm there two hours once a week. Visit another day or time.

@Wtfdoipick

Just because the children are off school due to the teacher it doesn't necessarily mean they have to isolate, they could be off due to no available replacement teacher.
The teacher had tested positive for covid.

Do you have a lot of Covid anxiety or were you just pissed off you were trying to clean and they all fronted up?

Dalamalama · 06/05/2021 16:13

@TJ17

None of us visited my Nan for a year apart from my mum who was in a bubble with her.

She was miserable and got really terrible depression as she is housebound.

She then caught Covid from the carers that go into her and nearly died having not seen any family for almost a year and living with depression all that time.

Do I visit her now? Absolutely.

And I would too! But I bet you wouldn't visit on the one day her cleaner is there for two hours. Pick a other day /time!

Nah no covid anxiety. It's just cases are going up In my area and yes, I know we all need to get back to some normality but can we all use a little common sense as well. Also it's illegal at the moment to go in others houses.

I think it was very disrespectful. If they want to break the rules then so be it but not at a time that it’s putting others at risk, especially without a heads up!

We had someone in to fix our boiler and I informed
Our cleaner who chose not to come that morning; it was her choice to make, not mine to make for her.
