Top 5% of earners in the the UK earn 70k or more, but it seems that every 3rd poster on here earns way above that and beyond.

I believe you.

Mumsnet will not be representative of an average sample of the UK's population.

The people who answer these questions and post will not be representative either.

What do you do for a job and how did you get there? That's a fantastic salary. I always feel I failed because I'm bright and did extremely well at school (the best GCSE results the school had ever seen, up until that point anyway - was surpassed a few years later) but I've not done well career-wise at all.

@Nodal

Well I'm fucked off with the women who live off men for a start but I'm also fucked off that all my years of effort are reduced to "well she must be lying because she's only a woman". What kind of role model are we setting young girls?

I know what kind of role model I am setting my son's.

Why would you be fucked off by the way other women choose to live their lives? It’s of no significance whatsoever to you.

I hope you’re not teaching your son’s (sic) how to use apostrophes.

Nodal · 06/05/2021 23:54

Yes that's right, I'm such a dumb, deluded woman I don't know the difference between plural and ownership, not I have a phone that does silly spelling corrections, that's why I've managed to be financially independent Hmm

What is your definition of a woman who lives off a man? If a mother were not to work because she was caring for her disabled child whilst being financially supported by her husband, would that fuck you off?

Don't be a tit. Phones put that rogue apostrophe in and MNHQ are too cheap to give us an edit button.

I do. Professional career and now in early 40s with 20 years professional experience. Many other female friends in similar bracket earning likewise. North west of England.

Am not posting to brag, am posting to say it's more than possible (granted with the benefit of a good (state) education and a lot of hard work) - what depresses me reading this thread is the assumption that this is bullshit. We really need to change the narrative and convince our daughters it's not bullshit.
