to not know where the WFH jobs are advertised?

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 09:27

I'm looking for home based / remote jobs beyond Covid as I'm disabled and WFH works best for me.

I'm not sure where / how to find such jobs. Does anyone have any suggestions? Most job sites are low paid / temporary jobs or all the jobs are in London (I'm in Scotland).

My previous experience is varied - in HR, counselling, disability charities, journalism and policy work.

I don't want to take a step back, or too much of a step back, in salary or grade.

Where can I find professional jobs that pay well but also allow remote working?

I'm looking at indeed, glassdoor, cv library, good moves, myjobscotland, dwp jobs, civil service jobs, linkedin, jobs.ac.uk, charitiy jobs

Any other sites I could try?

Flexa careers
Tiger recruitment

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 02/05/2021 09:33

I think it’s probably something that gets discussed at interview or on appointment

blueandcream · 02/05/2021 09:34

Have you tried mumsnet jobs?

aprilshowers2015 · 02/05/2021 09:34

I found my current role on Indeed, you can select "Remote" as an option and I set the maximum search radius from my location.
Also try Flexa or Workingmums

www.myworldofwork.co.uk This is career guidance service in Scotland, lots of support and advice here and you should be able to speak to a person too

Onesnowynight · 02/05/2021 09:47

Mine was full time site based then offered WFH 80% at interview

Squeejit · 02/05/2021 09:48

Can you freelance? Journalism lends itself.

Milkywaystars · 02/05/2021 09:54

www.prospect-us.co.uk/
They advertise both wfh, flexi and on site office jobs. Prospect-Us are a B Corp certified recruitment agency and their consultants aren't commission based. So you get less idiotic suggestions from people desperate to earn a commission.

I think my employer is now advertising all jobs as "U.K. based", and leaving it at that.
They don't want the faff of dealing with tax for employees based abroad, but you can work from anywhere you like in U.K.

pastabest · 02/05/2021 10:33

Lots of local authorities let staff work from home. It probably won't be advertised specifically like that but particularly HR type jobs are done 'remotely' anyway.

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 11:03

I do some freelance journalism jobs yes, but I'd much prefer a guaranteed income each week/month.

Thanks for those suggestions

MWOW is a careers site rather than a jobs site.

I think there is a lot of uncertainty over what future working might look like. I don’t think many organisations will want to commit to what their working from home offer will be. In a year, you might find it is easier to get a sense of what hybrid working means for more places. You’ll have more options if you’re willing for a day or two per week in the office which may end up being standard for some sectors.

Agree - now's a very funny time, I think it'll all settle down a lot. I think my employer will definitely offer partly WFH and probably will have fully remote as an option, but they wouldn't/couldn't give someone a contract promising it at the moment as the policy hasn't been decided for existing employees. They wouldn't even let my boss advertise my maternity cover as remote even though there are no plans to have people back in until a month or two before my maternity ends at the earliest because HR thought advertising that job as fully remote would open a can of worms.

I work in Recruitment and also work part-time. Some thoughts for starters:
Find Your Flex
10 to 2
Flexible Working People
Timewise
Jobs tagged as "remote" on Linkedin
Are you looking for full or part-time?

Gingersay · 02/05/2021 15:21

The Scottish government are advertising loads of jobs just now most of them will be working from home.

ChristmasAlone · 02/05/2021 15:36

Indeed, monster, CV Library

Search
HR Work From home

Search the area you live though, we offer WFH/Remote as a company (besides developers in Romania) its very unlikely we'd employ someone that lived too far away as on occasion we'd need face to face.

This is a good example of the problem the OP has - almost all of those jobs have a specific location listed, and only one I saw made specific reference to remote working. It may well be the case that most of them could be done from home but you'd need to know that in advance, you wouldn't find them searching from WFH jobs. I suspect plenty of employers would agree WFH for the right candidate especially in the current climate but that might mean wasting a lot of time applying for jobs that won't agree to that first.

www.remote.io/

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 17:13

exactly right @Hardbackwriter

@KarlUrbansWife I'd do either f/t or p/t

I am working a FTC at the moment. We are WFH but that could change any day and as I am disabed - that plus covid makes life difficult so remote working is what I'd prefer.

georgarina · 02/05/2021 17:17

What kind of job are you interested in/trained in? I'd start there, look at what's available and then see if you can WFH from there

ScotlandUnited · 02/05/2021 17:24

I answered that in my OP

Unfortunately a lot of the links mentioned either have no remote jobs, or just temporarily remote. There's also a lot of jobs that would involve taking half my current pay.

It sucks.

Guardian jobs allow you to search specifically for “home working positions” Good Luck Flowers

Iceniii · 02/05/2021 17:28

Look at the Civil Service. Look for roles you can do and want and check their flexible working policy. Some of the departments are very flexible, especially if it enables diversity.

RebeccaBristol · 02/05/2021 17:31

On LinkedIn jobs one of the search options is 'remote' jobs only
