Sainsbury's online delivery.....

DelBocaVista · 29/04/2021 08:18

It's it just us or is it now completely rubbish?
Loads of items missing, numerous short dated items which they refuse to refund and if you are lucky enough to get anything refunded it's now a voucher.

When you try to complain they tell you it will be reviewed internally but that they don't ever share the outcome of complaints as that's not their policy.

I love our local driver but I'm fed up of having to do a second shop every week because so much is missing or out of date.

Can you tell I've had a shop delivered this morning?!

If a short life item is highlighted on your receipt, the point is you can reject it, hence why they don’t refund.

If it isn’t highlighted, you should get a refund if you call them.

ZednotZee · 29/04/2021 09:34

We switched to Waitrose because of the numerous short dated items at Sainsburys. I'm much, much happier with their products and service.

ThemilkybarsRonme · 29/04/2021 09:35

I have deliveries from Sainsbury's most weeks and they don't always list all the short dated goods in the email. Last week they listed something with 3 days to go, but forgot the lettuce and raspberries dated the next day. Before the pandemic the lovely delivery men used to help me unpack and check the dates on the groceries in my kitchen. Now I just check them myself at the front door. They don't mind waiting and having a chat while I do it, and returns at the door are credited back to my credit card. I found Tesco was the worst for short dated fruit and veg. Even their in date things used to go mouldy more quickly.

Seymour5 · 29/04/2021 09:37

At the start of the pandemic, due to our age and DH's health condition we were supposed to be vulnerable. I'd had Tesco deliveries occasionally, but could not get any. Signed up for Sainsbury's and have had little issue with the deliveries.

However, last year, I tried as usual to book a delivery just after I'd received one, and couldn't access my account. Their customer service was diabolical, they wouldn't speak to me due to DP as 'I wasn't the account holder'. My email had been compromised, and a delivery had been ordered by someone else to a completely different address. My credit card and Nectar card were linked and at risk. It seemed to be beyond their ability to check back and recognise I'd had months of regular weekly deliveries.

I eventually got someone to believe me, but it wasn't resolved until I wrote to the chief exec. I spent hours trying to sort out the cards, and anything else linked to my email. I suspect it was an employee, as part of the address was let slip and it was local. I passed it all on to Action Fraud, and hopefully they have found the culprit.

PinkPomeranian · 29/04/2021 09:39

Sainsburys always does this to us. We like late night deliveries so often end up with fruit with a BBD of the delivery day at 10pm. Very helpful...

This happened to us a few weeks ago. Very annoying!

But on this occasion the receipt was emailed to me less than 5 mins before the delivery arrived. I hadn't seen the receipt and in previous weeks they'd always been happy to refund - they seem to have changed the policy without making it clear.

And tbh rejecting it still leaves me with having to make a trip to the supermarket so it's becoming more hassle than it's worth!

This is terrible!!

I have found their customer service to be pretty poor and they don't seem to have a complaints procedure.

Once a delivery just didn't turn up - they told me the driver had been stood outside my house for 15 mins and I didn't answer the door. That was completely untrue!

I've been doing click and collect, there is always an issue, one week virtually all of my shopping needed eaten within 3 days, including 20 yoghurts. Also frustrating when you order 2 packs of something and they have different dates.

My regular issue is them packing delicate items under heavy ones or packing stuff on its side so it's either ruined e.g. lasagne or leaks all over the shopping.

The folk on the van when you collect are good for refunding there and then if you notice but complaining is so so. Sometimes I've had decent service on the messenger thing. Sometimes not. My last complaint from about a month ago hasn't been answered. I did describe their packing service as being like a group of demented raccoons so maybe they are offended.

I'm currently using waitrose as they sent me some vouchers, I'll need to go back to sainsburys soon though. Probably just go back to shopping in store for more control but appreciate that's not an option for everyone.

BashfulClam · 29/04/2021 10:16

Sainsburys are actually the best here. Asda gave me cheese and a packet of meat where the packaging was open on delivery. You would think that the picker would notice. The drivers for all supermarkets are lively though.

RedactedTaeFeck · 29/04/2021 10:19

Oh and I've reported the store twice to environmental health as was sick of picking up out of date goods on the shelves. Including things 6 months out of date, initially I was passing these to staff in store but nobody seemed to give a shit.

Fluffyandsilly · 29/04/2021 10:19

I've generally found it really good. I didn't use it before covid and have been pleasantly surprised.
I've had a couple of issues but nothing major. Things like being given a voucher once when some meat was best before the next day, and the odd item missing. The best was when they substituted some peanuts with... toilet bleach Grin

AngusThermopyle · 29/04/2021 10:20

I think these things must vary upon region. I've not had any of these issues with my Sainsbury's delivery.
I've a large order coming today and spent nearly £180 (that's not normal-just a special order) and I've got no subs, nothing missing and one short date item on 1 salad bag but I've ordered 3 different salad bags so that's not bad.
My customer services also seem very easy to get hold of if ever I do have a query though, I use a number on the bottom of my receipt and I always get someone quite helpful.
It's a shame that all stores don't seem the same.

TheScottishPlay · 29/04/2021 10:31

I agree. I ordered for delivery on Easter Saturday evening. It didn't turn up. When I phoned they said it was on it's way. Waited 'til 11pm and no one appeared or contacted me.
I phoned to complain and get a refund on Easter morning. No one knew what happened and could not have cared less about my £170 of lost shopping. I had to call 3 times to sort it out.
They left me with a £20 voucher and a nasty taste in my mouth.
A few weeks prior to this I noticed lots of missing items so you have to shop anyway.
Oh, and a couple of years ago one of the drivers reversed into my porch and tried to blame the way my drive is.
Up until the delivery though I would have said they were fab with on the whole lovely drivers.

FinallyFluid · 29/04/2021 10:41

I shopped with Sainsburys for thirty years, I was deemed CEV, (much to my annoyance Grin)
Within a day of the CEV letter Tesco emailed me saying we have this, I still wanted to shop with Sainsburys, so I waited and waited.........

I eventually rang them to discover that yes they had the letter, but did I not know there was a pandemic going on.... they would get to me eventually. Confused

So I started with Tesco and have yet to be disappointed.

I still drop into our large super store for a few items every week, their veg is orders of magnitude better, but from now on it is Tesco all the way.

VanGoghsDog · 29/04/2021 11:27

Bagels last forever, I keep them literally weeks. I've never even looked at a use by date. Same with veg, especially root veg.

It's not really the point though is it?

It's not acceptable to regularly have numerous items with such a short shelf life.

OP posts:
VanGoghsDog · 29/04/2021 11:58

My point is that I have no idea if the bagels they send me have a "short shelf life" because I never look at the date because they last ages anyway so I know even if they are sent on the exact date they'll still be fine for ages.

So, I have no idea of Sainsburys (who I use a couple of times a month) are sending me short dated goods because it's not something I register.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/04/2021 12:07

my deliveries are really reliable, and the substitutions few and sensible.

However, I have noticed recently lots of little things not being available for weeks on end. Sometimes niche stuff like my preferred brand of hollandaise (off topic - the fresh one in the purple package is indistinguishable from homemade), harrisa, prawn crackers, cat food in gravy, but also more basic ingredients like red cabbage, most fresh herbs, and own brand juice.

It's annoying because I shopped with them for convenience, acknowledging that I paid a bit more for what were really reliable deliveries. Recently I'm having to go the the shop more and more to pick up things showing as out of stock, and if I have to go out to Aldi anyway I may as well get everything there and save a few quid.

Bagels might not be an issue but many of the other short dated items are! They regularly send meat and dairy products which go out of date the day after - pretty pointless if you get a later delivery which has happened on a number of occasions.

It's become too much of a gamble- they're too unreliable and their customer service is shocking

Exactly my thoughts! There have been some pretty standard products that have been unavailable for weeks and weeks yet my local Sainsbury's and Tesco has them in abundance so it's not like there is a national shortage!

Online has always been great as we both work full time and have young children but it's now more hassle than it's worth!

If Waitrose send short dated items you get them for free!

Soubriquet · 29/04/2021 12:26

I’m a Sainsbury’s shopper and I pride myself on what I pick

I try to get the best dated product I can and make sure things are decent sized

It’s hard when carrots, for example are really piddly.

I can’t say the same for some colleagues though. They pick the first thing they see and don’t bother lifting boxes to see if there is a better date. Which is a shame really

Well done, hopefully your shopping recipients appreciate your good work :) Can I ask if you get training in picking and packing? I asked as part of my query but it wasn't answered.

I do appreciate that maybe they don't always get enough time and might be rushed and I actually don't mind some shorter dated stuff as I'll just adjust my plan to accommodate. I can't however accommodate it when everything is short dated and I rarely have extra space in my freezer. Plus, if I wanted frozen food, I'd have ordered that and it would probably have been cheaper. My complaint that week was that they told me my raspberries were short dated and I was fine with that but didn't tell me about any of the other items, including some that had shorter dates than the raspberries.

There is no excuse for packing tomatoes and soft fruit under tins, baking potatoes etc. They do the same with things like cream cakes. And it's not just once, every time I collect, anything delicate is packed under heavy items - you'd almost think it was deliberate.
