Urgent - does anyone know Hastings?

I know this isn't an AIBU, but I need some urgent advice so posting here for traffic. DH and I are considering putting in an offer on a lovely house in Hastings, but are unsure about schools - an important factor as I have two young DC.

Does anyone live in Hastings or know the area well - and if so can you tell me about schools, both primary and secondary?

Thank you!

I thought this was going to be another LoD thread.

Like the Battle?

@Stevenetween

Hastings... it's a bit Tory, a bit dull, and very grotty. In need of dire investment. Every other shop is boarded up or c charity shop. Schools aren't great. Why Hastings?? Have you family nearby? And have you spent much time there??
Hastings itself is pretty Labour, but the constituency is Hastings & Rye. If more people in Hastings got themselves out to vote, it would most likely be a Labour seat.

Hastings is a great place but children will be at school with children of people with “Hastings mentality”. From families where 3 generations have not worked.

Interesting which survey of best ‘seaside’ towns. Hastings below eg herne bay. Link following.

Hang on that survey is hard to read on mobile but I think I’ve just seen under ‘scenery’ herne bay is rated higher than Penzance !? Hmm maybe it’s one of those which will just get everyone angry (although top several look quite right !

I grew up in Battle and went to the primary and secondary school there, (Battle and Langton and Claverham) the primary school was rubbish in a very old victorian building (now houses) they built a new school building early 90's I think, but it was never big enough and is still just OK. Claverham was originally OFSTED outstanding but went down to good 3 or so years ago (mainly because Hastings kids go there now, when years ago it just served Battle and the villages surrounding it) I moved out of Battle after universityand lived in Hastings until 8 years ago. It is a shit hole, schools are pretty rubbish. William Parker and Helenswood joined forces and have Ark Alexandra based in Old William Parker building and Helenswood lower school site (opposite the Conquest hospital) its renamed, new uniform etc but is still dire with poor behaviour etc. The other 2 schools, Hastings Academy and St Leonards Academy are just as rubbish. It's such a shame for those who wish to learn that they are lumped into these schools. If you moved to the old Town you'd probably be going to old Hillcrest site (now Hastings Academy) , not great. I was lucky, I sent my children to private schools out of town and now I live in Little Common, Bexhill. St Richards is good (OFSTED outstanding)but Catholic and Bexhill Academy is ok though friends children have suffered bullying there and it was built originally as 'pods' with 90 in a class. I would never live in Hastings again. There are lovely people is Hastings, St Leonards but sadly they are dwarfed in number by the weird ones.
