I've been reading about how it cost 88,000 pounds to do and how Lulu Lytle was the interior designer. She has such a bold and interesting style. I must admit I'm very VERY curious to see how it looks. Has anyone seen any photos? I want know if she actually has gold wallpaper.

P.S. I know there are much bigger issues going on in the world, but I'm so sick of seeing house done in grey and crushed velvet. I'm really curious just how boho the whole thing went.

Am I being unreasonable?

The podcast "Oh God what now" (stupid name but bear with me) has a summary about 9'30" in on what the allegations of who paid for the redecorations. It's the best political gossip summary I've heard so far about the situation.

Refurb Works finished late spring 2020

Director Gen of Proprietary & Ethics refused to cover it
Cabinet Office fronted full payment in June

Followed by various shenagins below to repay the Cabinet office
Plan was to form a trust to repay, but trust never formed. Alastair Darling approached but declined to run it

I'm unclear on the story at this point, but it's possible the Conservative party actually repaid or merely planned to repay Cabinet office (briefly)

But couldn't do that, against rules

Funder Names dropped into it =
Conservative donors = Lord Banfort, Lord Brownlow

Johnson at last took out a personal loan to cover the amount, so ultimately he paid but he didn't pay initial invoice

It's interesting how The Daily Mail who have gone on and on about this have suddenly turned face and now it's who cares about wallpaper? There have definitely been some strings pulled behind the scenes there.

It’s getting hard to keep up.

Apparently Boris also asked for donations to fund his personal trainer and his son’s nanny.

Boris Johnson earns £157,372 a year but apparently can’t afford to pay for his own nanny

Wait wait... they live in flats??

They're called flats but they're like terrace houses

@ForwardRanger so they're not actual flats then? Why do they call them flats? Confused

minniemomo · 02/05/2021 22:07

I can't imagine what a £10k sofa looks like. My £1000 looks great and is super comfy. Oh and I hate wallpaper!

They are flats. The ground floors of 10 and 11 Downing Street are offices.

Is there a posh name for maisonettes? Plus of course they do have their country houses.

BlackCatShadow · 03/05/2021 03:10

Well, it’s like William and Kate’s place at Kensington Palace is called an apartment. It’s bloody huge though.
