To really want to see the makeover at Downing Street?

I've been reading about how it cost 88,000 pounds to do and how Lulu Lytle was the interior designer. She has such a bold and interesting style. I must admit I'm very VERY curious to see how it looks. Has anyone seen any photos? I want know if she actually has gold wallpaper.

P.S. I know there are much bigger issues going on in the world, but I'm so sick of seeing house done in grey and crushed velvet. I'm really curious just how boho the whole thing went.

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

the aeroplane that had ££££££££ spent on it so it could look like a BNP mascot? Nobody cared

Oh yes we did 😡

caringcarer · 28/04/2021 17:28

I can't say I would like Teresa May's style either. It is reasonable to want to have the flat in your own style especially as people have not got out much lately due to Covid. I would like to see it too.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 28/04/2021 17:37

maybe they could do a feature in Hello (or whatever current celeb magazine equivalent is) and use the money from that to pay for it?

LOL at BJ's response to a "who paid for it" question - 'I've got my top civil servant to set up an enquiry'.
FFS - if you spent £200k refurbing your home, wouldn't you know how you'd paid for it?

& I never imagined I'd start to have a sneaking admiration for Dominic Cummings.
The gift that keeps on giving, maybe he's going to publish diaries soon?

MilduraS · 28/04/2021 17:49

I would love to see what it looks like. Photos from when the Camerons lived there looked lovely so I don't understand how Theresa May could have done THAT much damage. The new designer's style is pretty bold and not to most people's taste (it's a bit vulgar to me) so it seems a waste to spend so much knowing it will have to be undone soon.

StillRailing · 28/04/2021 17:53

I just read that Theresa may didn't change the decor. So it would be the Camerons' choices that were to be erased.

Ducksurprise · 28/04/2021 18:04

I think history will treat May kinder than Cameron or Johnson.

That JL tweet is funny.

I notice no one is offering to take BoJo off her hands Grin

Felifox · 28/04/2021 18:18

I'd love to see how it looks I must admit. Even 30 years ago Ian Hislop was very witty about Boris' career in journalism. The Wikipedia entry on Johnson is worth reading. He deserves Cummings unleashed on him

I think the reason the plane didn't get as much traction is that people don't really connect with that - it's like, oh well maybe it's reasonable the PM needs a plane and it should be repainted, it feels unreal (I don't know how much is reasonable for a plane repaint?)

But decorating a flat - well we all know exactly how much that can be done for and it's obscene to pay £10k for a sofa and £850 for wallpaper unless there is some kind of historical reason eg. You're restoring a national trust property and need to have the original paper or something. So it feels much more obviously venal and out of touch, plays into the "Carrie Antoinette" thing, especially when the next occupants are going to have to have it all redone as it is SO out there.

I just really don't like feeling manipulated by Dominic Cummings. I know this is all coming from him and I can feel myself being fed what to think, far be it for me to defend BoJo but I do worry that I am falling for DC's propaganda campaign against Boris.

That’s the thing- it’s just so transparent. And Cummings and Gove are no less loathesome than Johnson.

itwa · 28/04/2021 19:10

I heard the term 'Carrie Antoinette'

Grin

1Morewineplease · 28/04/2021 19:12

Yes... Carrie Antoinette is all over Twitter , as are pictures, but I'm not convinced that they're the actual pictures.
Mosey on over...

@itwa regardless of your views on Mr Johnson, I do not support having a go at his fiancee. Especially as I expect that before her 40th birthday it is in my opinion quite possible that she will be a single mother, or having to deal with yet more infidelities.

Well it's hardly a surprise if it does happen when he treated his ex wife so badly and his children.

Alsohuman · 28/04/2021 19:21

@HoldontoOneMoreDay

I'm desperate to see it! I must admit my jaw dropped when I saw that all pms get a 30k allowance per year for the flat - fair enough if it's per term, but per year! Flipping heck, I don't know anyone who would spend 30k a year when there's no real structural work to do.

I actually feel sorry for the designer, I don't think it will do her career any good.

It’s incredible, isn’t it? A rent free central London flat and you get paid £2.5k a month to live in it. Nice work if you can get it.

I think the one person who will come out well is the designer.

I hadn’t heard of her or company and googled. Not that it’s my style.
Anonmousse · 28/04/2021 19:28

I can understand redecorating (although baffling how you could spend that much!) but thought the furniture would belong to the occupant (surprised the May's didnt take their supposedly awful JL furniture)

FinallyHere · 28/04/2021 19:35

Well, no one can say that there were no signs of the kind of man that he is. When you get involved with someone who is already married and have DC, and is now fighting cancer, the clues are only too obvious.

I hope that spending £200k on a makeover for temporary accommodation is some kind of recompense.

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 28/04/2021 20:26

@newnortherner111 come the fuck on what else would you expect if you shacked up with Boris fucking Johnson? Ever heard the expression ‘lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas’? More like ‘lie down with boris, wake up with a super injunction denying the paternity of your kids and an STI test in your near future’. The man is a fucking disgrace and it’s no secret, surely Carrie knows exactly what he has done to his former partners and children, and is well aware the same could happen to her. She’s an adult and presumably has made that choice.

I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 28/04/2021 21:02

Politics aside. Sam Cameron and Teresa May are well dressed stylish women. Projecting somewhat, I would expect them to have tasteful homes.

Boris and Carrie on the other hand, do not dress well and I imagine their decor would give you a migraine.

HeddaGarbled · 28/04/2021 21:06

@Shopliftersoftheworldunite

Quite. The only reason she’s getting to employ an expensive designer to furnish her grace and favour apartment and spend weekends at her grace and favour stately home is because she happened to be shagging a serial cheat at the point his wife decided she’d had enough of him.

StillRailing · 28/04/2021 21:08

That seems logical PurpleWh1te.
